Advanced Class IV for I Ching (易經高班IV)–Lecture 5

Minda and I attended Prof. Pang’s (彭泓基教授) advanced class IV for I Ching (易經高班 IV) (6A class) the 5^th lecture which was held on 4^th Jan 2025. Lecture 5 continued to discuss Buddhism (易佛教) and Eight Characters for Destiny (八字命理). 

In the beginning, Prof. Pang briefed his summary of Buddhism in one chart.

And the he started to discuss the Zen Buddhism (佛教的禪宗).

Prof. Pang explained Zen artistic conception (禪的意境) and its different levels.

What is Zen? Zen is a form of Buddhism that emphasizes meditation and direct experience to achieve enlightenment (悟) and mindfulness in the present moment.

And then he demonstrated the traceability of Zen Buddhism which started from Bodhidharma (達摩). The history of Zen was briefed.

There are separated into Small Enlightenment (小乘的自覺) and Big Enlightenment (大乘的覺他).

After that he explained ten levels of Zen enlightenment through the Ten Oxherding Pictures (十牛圖).

Finally, Eight Characters for Destiny (八字命理) and its exercise was performed. The 12 steps were briefed. 

He taught us to use Perpetual Calendar (萬年曆) to search the year, month, day and time.

After defined the four pillars of Eight Characters (八字), it can be explained. 

One of classmates Eight Characters employed as example.

Ten Gods (十神) were used to predict the classmate’s characteristics.

Lastly, Prof. Pang demonstrated how to explain Eight Characters for Destiny (八字命理) again. All classmates were focused.

After the lecture, we had lunch together.

2025 New Year’s Day Wudang Tai Chi Collective Training (元旦集訓)

Minda and I joined 2025 New Year’s Day Wudang Tai Chi (秘傳武當太極拳班) Collective Training (元旦集訓) on 1^st Jan 2025 in Bamboo Forest Taoist Temple (⽵林道觀). N team took a group photo with Master Andy Law (羅哲英) and Mrs. Law. 

Minda and I took a photo in front of the temple entry.

Then N team took a group photo.

When Mr. Law arrived, we selfie in the door of ethics. 

Mr. Law and Mrs. Law took a photo with the New Year decorations.

Afterwards, Taoist priest Mr. Tsang (曾忠南道長) gave a talk named “A brief discussion on Taoist rituals” (淺談道家科儀). That related to The Last Dance (破．地獄).

And then Ms. Flora Chan shared her experience about Qigong/ Qidogong (氣功/氣動功). We took a photo with Flora Chan.    

After that Mr. Otto Lee (李春源) performed “the courage of a warrior and the soul of a musician” (劍膽琴心). Firstly, Mr. Lee performed the Guqin (古琴).

Then he performed a sword dance.

We had lunch together afterward.

Finally, we all practiced the fixed step single push (定步單推⼿). Lastly, all participants took a group photo in front of the temple for memory.
