Advanced Class II for I Ching (易經高班II)–Lecture 5

Minda and I joined Prof. Peng’s (彭泓基教授) advanced class II for I Ching (易經高班) Lecture 5 on 20^th Apr 2024. Today’s topic was a detail review of litigation hexagram (訟卦). 

The hexagram of litigation could be changed in mutual hexagram (互卦) that indicated different trend of change and progress during the divination (占卜). The Jiji Hexagram (既濟卦) is used as standard for comparison because all Yaos (爻) are in right position. Only Nine Five Yao (九五爻) is in right position under litigation hexagram (訟卦) indicating to meet the right and justice man to solve the conflict.

Then Prof. Peng explained each Yao (爻) in the litigation hexagram (訟卦).

The summary of all changes come from the litigation hexagram (訟卦). The horizontal change through Change Hexagram/Gua (變卦) by yin yang exchange in each Yao (爻) from the first to sixth. And then each Gua (卦) also change to upper as the comprehensive hexagram (綜卦) and lower as the wrong hexagram (錯卦). Where the comprehensive hexagram (綜卦) that are changed upside down after rotation. The wrong hexagram (錯卦) that yin yao (陰爻) and yang yao (陽爻) are inter-exchanged to form another hexagram.

After that Prof. Peng concluded the overview of all changes from litigation hexagram. Its path started from argument (訟) to opinionate (履) to deny (否) to invade (姤) to scatter (渙) to fail (未濟) and to difficult (困).

Finally, he used the litigation hexagram (訟卦) to explain the chaos in the middle east.

Prof. Peng quoted Han Feizi (韓非子) - The Journey to Destruction (亡征).

Lastly, he discussed Chinese spirit and the key characteristic is gentle and kindhearted (溫良).
