ESG Webinar - 2022 Trends - Metaverse, Crypto, A.I. for Executives

The Executive Study Group (ESG) webinar named “2022 Trends - Metaverse, Crypto, A.I. for Executives” was held by Asia Pacific Institute for Strategy Limited (APIFS) on 15th Feb 2022.   In the beginning, Dr. Mark Lee briefed the background, history, and goal of Asia Pacific Institute for Strategy Limited (APIFS).   This talk content included “Early Sign of Metavers”, “5 Concepts between Metaverse and Internet 2.0” and “The Future of Metaverse”.

In the beginning, Dr. Mark Lee introduced some luxury brands entered pre-Mataverse Markets and quoted some examples – Tiffany, LV and Gucci that Tiffany employed AR, LV cross-over “League of Legends” and Gucci cross-over The North Face under Gucci-Poke stops.

Then he gave poll 1 to ask us could digital world generate luxury experience effectively?  There were 40% participants agreed the statement.

And then Dr. Lee mentioned the five concepts between Metaverse and Web 2.0 and they were i) Uniqueness vs Imitability, ii) Avatar vs User Account Login, iii) Self-Sustainable vs Dependent Economy, iv) Non-Fungible Assets vs Fungible Assets, and v) Without Middleman vs With Middleman.

For the first concept, Dr. Lee quoted some cases such as Beeple NFT tacked digital artwork sold for ~US$70 million and “Overpriced” BlockParty for US26,000 to explain creating scarcity in digital world using non-fungible tokens (NFTs) new technology.

It could be further explained by the law of supply and demand in Metaverse.

After that Dr. Mark Lee raised the Poll 2 for NFT digital artwork is fad or not.  That showed M shape that half believed and half didn’t believe it.

And then Dr. Lee briefed why it called as Avatar that word come from India.  Avatar would be your digital identity in Metaverse. He said digital platform (e.g. Facebook and Amazon) owned your identify today but you could own your digital assets which also reflected Avatar’s Personality in Metaverse.

Dr. Lee also gave the Poll 3 about Avatar’s Personality and discussed with participants to reflect real personality or create new personality in avatar design.  It could be half-half to support real and virtual personality.

The third concept was about self-sustainable.  He discussed Metaverse Economy that digital currencies existed in the metaverse for money transfer, shopping, trading, reselling, etc.

Dr. Lee then mentioned the fourth concept about Fungible and Non-Fungible economics concepts.  Fungibility is the property of a good or a commodity such as gold.  Non-Fungible has a value that cannot be replaced such as land.  Non-fungible token (NFT) created uniqueness in the digital world.

The Poll 4 surveyed us to trust or not on NFT.  The result showed half people believed and half not.

The last concept was without middleman in Metaverse because of using Blockchain technology.

Finally, Dr. Mark Lee introduced the father of the Metaverse who is Mr. Neal Stephenson (Author of Snow Crash) and his idea come from his 1992 cyberpunk novel.  Based on Mr. Stephenson’s novel, the future of Metaverse had multiple worlds, law enforcement, jail, and different operators.

At the end, Dr. Mark Lee performed the last Poll that should governments supervise the land trading in metaverse? The result was also half-half!
