CityU Eminence Society (CES) Seminar – How Hong Kong Can Contribute to the Nation's Implementation of Global Governance Initiatives

CityU Eminence Society (CES) invited Mr. Leung Chun-ying (Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, GBS, JP) (全國政協副主席梁振英先生，大紫荊勳賢，GBS，JP) to give us a seminar entitled “How Hong Kong Can Contribute to the Nation's Implementation of Global Governance Initiatives” (城賢匯 專題講座「香港如何助力國家實踐全球治理倡議」) on 13^th Mar 2026 in CityU Alumni Lounge. I was very lucky having opportunity to take a photo with Mr. CY Leung and Dr. Allen Shi (Chairman, CES) at the end of the seminar. This booklet is Mr. CY Leung's campaign brochure, which I received 14 years ago. It has his signature on it. 

Before the seminar, my colleague Dr. Jeff Tang drove me to go to CityU Alumni Lounge which inside the student dormitory.

Jeff attended another alumni dinner here and showed me around his dorm room when studied in CityU.

I arrived the venue.

Firstly, I met Mr Simon Hui (Former Chairman, CityUES) and Prof. Andrew Fan (Distinguished Alumni and Hon Fellow of CityU).

Then we took photo with CES members including Ms. Pheony Tsang, Dr. Raymond Leung, Mr. Alex Zhong, Mr. Robert Lui, Dr. Steve Chuang, Mr. Chris Jung and Mr. Andrew Fan, etc.

Before seminar start, Mr. Andrew Fan introduced today’s MC and secretary of CES.

Then, Mr. Simon Hui sponsored a hair dryer for each participant.

Our guest speaker Mr. CY Leung arrived.

Beginning the seminar, Dr. Allen Shi (Chairman, CES) gave opening speech.

Mr. CY Leung delivered a keynote speech entitled “How Hong Kong Can Contribute to the Nation's Implementation of Global Governance Initiatives”.

He said “On September 1, 2025, President Xi Jinping delivered a speech at the "Shanghai Cooperation Organization Plus" summit. He proposed the Global Governance Initiative, working alongside all nations to advance the establishment of a more just and reasonable global governance system, and join hands in building a community with a shared future for mankind.” 

Mr. CY Leung added the translation of “人類命運共同體” should be “Shared Future”

He also quoted President Xi’s four expectations for Hong Kong:

1. To be more proactive in supporting the country’s comprehensive opening up.
2. To be more proactive in integrating into the overall development of the country.
3. To be more proactive in participating in the practice of national governance.
4. To be more proactive in promoting international cultural exchanges.

After that he introduced the work of the GX Foundation and how the foundation connects people in developing countries with Hong Kong through the Belt and Road Initiative.

Finally, he mentioned that GX is a form of people-to-people diplomacy, embodying our country's diplomatic principles of "closeness, sincerity, benefit, and inclusiveness." 「親、誠、惠、容」

Q&A questions, Dr. Steve Chuang, and Prof. Andrew Fan asked different questions respectively. 

After the seminar, I met EngD cohort Dr. Andy Wong.

CityU Alumni & CES Webinar for Investment Talk

 CityU Alumni Webinar for Investment Talk was organized by CityU, Convocation and CityU Eminence Society (CES) on 10^th Nov 2020.  Ms. Agnes Wu and Mr. Ken Lo were invited as guest speaker.

 

Mr. Robert Lui was webinar moderator.

Ms. Agnes Wu was the first speaker and her topic named “New normal in politics and economy, what smart money to buy? (政經新常態, 聰明錢點買?)”  One of important factors was pandemic control. 

She reviewed the global public debt between developed and developing countries. 

Finally, Ms. Agnes Wu reminded that to consider the new policy of China focused industries including PV, Military, 3^rd generation of semiconductor, new energy car and biomedical industry.  Lastly, she said that clean energy sector could be considered in future.

The second speaker was Mr. Ken Lo and his topic named “Future Development of Virtual Assets and Security Token Offering”.  He said some existing assets were not able to be invested (e.g. IPO) that technology such as blockchain could be employed to realize its value for investment. 

After that he said many countries recognized the Securities (證券).  Using Blockchain can enhance the trust on the value of assets.  Finally he also discussed the digital currency.

China Daily Asia Leadership Roundtable Webinar - Tipping Point: "Economic Impact of the Pandemic: A New Approach to Doing Business"

The China Daily Asia Leadership Roundtable is a by-invitation network of movers and shakers in Asia providing platforms for focused dialogue, issue investigation, and possible collective action on strategic issues relating to economic, business and social development in Asia.  The webinar named "China Daily Asia Leadership Roundtable - Tipping Point: "Economic Impact of the Pandemic: A New Approach to Doing Business"" was held on 27^th May 2020.

Prof. Geng Xiao (President, Hong Kong Institution for International Finance) briefed the situation of Covid-19 outbreak in Asia and the world. The future of economic come into two strategies, one is China and Asia Pacific that people first, focused on quality and long term development.  Another strategy is like US. Pandemic had not under control yet.  Hong Kong is in the middle. Global economic will be based on Internet economic and digital structure.

How HK attract more capital? Good living environment for talent, such as MSCI.

US vs China – i) National Security, no very real conflict geographically; ii) Global order, one way is to cooperate, otherwise the cost is too big for the whole world.

Tim LEE (Founder & CEO, QFPay) said it was first time using online seminar during Covid-19 period. A lot of local travel businesses were affected. China is still recovering but some SME closed down during Covid-19 period.  Alternative payment solution was looking for. Most of them were online business. New e-commercial was facing child at home.  Government fund was provided to help business online. Online business and channel will become the norm.  Mobile payment and total non-touch payment would be the future.  Global long range travel would be gone!  

Dennis Ng (Founder, Mober Technology Pte) in Philippines shared his view about his Motorcycle / driver delivery related business. Taking advantage of this lock down, they had better chance to win the competitor. The driver market they kept to waiting the better rate. “Mober” gave better delivery rate after the lock down that customer was no need to suffer the long queue in supermarket.

Edith Yeung (General Partner, Race Capital) shared her view on impact on venture capital (VC).  Covid-19 had changed many behavior.  Fund raising usually looked for ten year. It would be the worse time for some categories. For fund raising, face to face meeting was still important.  VC would considered Pharmaceutical, Biotech, online education, and digital healthcare, etc.

Q&A

What QFPay different compared with other payment platform e.g. PayPal/ApplePay/AliPay? Every customer they choose their own wallet.

Edith said many Chinese restaurant adopt ideas to operate it as usual through online and mobile ordering.

Tim said e-wallet like virtual bank. May be no credit anymore in future.

Dennis said there would be no traffic in Philippines during the lock down. Companies would be very lean and needed their service.
