Intermediate Class for I Ching (易經中班) – Lecture 6

Prof. Peng’s (彭泓基教授) Intermediate class for I Ching (易經中班) Lecture 6 (Last lecture) was held on 15^th Jul 2023. The course has six lectures from 3^rd Jun to 15^th Jul 2023. I would like to summarize some key points of the lecture below. This lecture named “Briefing of Plum Bossom Changing Maths II (梅花易數淺談(下))”.

Firstly, Prof. Peng briefed different divination (卜卦) methods including using year, month and day with division rule for starting Gua (卦). Upper Gua is using Year+Month+Day and then divided by 8. The remaining number is Gua. Lower Gua using Year+Month+Day+Time divided by 8. And the Change Gua (變卦) is using Year+Month+Day+Time divided by 6. Other method such as choose two numbers randomly, number of strokes (筆劃數), number of things, single animal plus coming direction, etc.

And then he added steady things cannot be divination (卜卦). Only something changing can be divination.

Prof. Peng also told us a story that a man come to farmer home to borrowing one thing. Farmer and his son used divination to predict what thing the man would like to borrow. He explained the Gua using five elements (五行). And two elements (Gold and Wood) were found and guess to borrow AXE. 

Another story about Ji Xiaolan divination for examination (紀曉嵐占試). The Gua showed difficulty but he explained the Change Gua (變卦) to be win the examination. He finally got the second winner.

After that Prof. Peng summarized the foretell (占⼘) that divided into five judgments: Luck (吉), bad (凶), regret (悔), stinginess (吝) and innocence (無咎). Success or fail depends on your will.

It is a cycle through bad (凶), regret (悔), stinginess (吝) and innocence (無咎) to Luck (吉). It is also a common sense. 

He then explained 1, 2 and 3 cards method for divination. Prof. Peng always employed Heptagram Array (七芒星陣) for prediction.

Finally, some classmates come up to demonstrate the divination using I Ching card. 

It is very interested result and explained classmates’ situation that are very true.

Another classmate asked about continuing his business.

Mr. Law was the last one and he shared his question and use Heptagram Array (七芒星陣) for prediction.

We all found the results reflected the true situations.

Lastly, Prof. Peng gave us an overview of I Ching and it had so many content that can cover all things in the world.

Prof. Peng also introduced the next Senior Class content and would be held in future.

At the end, we took a group photo for memory.

After the last lecture, we had lunch together.
