Visit to Changlong, Guangzhou by High Railway

Minda and I with Father-in-law, Mother-in-law, Minda’s brothers visited  by High Railway from 24th to 25th May 2019. It is our first time from Hong Kong West Kowloon Station (西九龍高鐵站) to go to Guangzhounan Railway Station (廣州南站) . Total time is about 45min.

I used DiDi (滴滴出行) in WeChat to book 6 seats car and went to the Chimelong Tourist Resort.


Our hotel named “Chimelong Panda Hotel” (長隆熊貓酒店).

CES Work Group meeting with KTO, CityU

The 5th Exco Inauguration Ceremony of CityU Eminence Society (CES), our chairman Mr. Weeky Wong (CEO & Vice Chairman, Tai Sing Industrial Company Ltd.) enhanced the work groups and separated into following disciplines: Membership Development, Publicity, Learning, External Affairs, Exchange Tour, University Collaborative Project and Member Activities.  Dr. YC Chau and I were members of University Collaborative Project Work Group and held a meeting with Knowledge Transfer Office (KTO) on 22nd May 2019.  We took a photo in front of KTO office.

We discussed in three directions below.
i)                    Mentorship pool: The next round recruiting mentor would be held in Jan 2020. We would like to establish regular mechanism to recruit members of CES to share and lead startup in CityU.
ii)                  Commercialization related Seminars: We purposed to invite entrepreneurs in CES to share their story to both students and staff in CityU.  It suggested in Sem-A (after Sep 2019).
iii)                Arrange Visit to understanding CityU R&D: We purposed to invite CES entrepreneurs and alumni (e.g. who worked in important post in Hong Kong government) to visit CityU R&D projects and CityU Shenzhen Research Institute. 


After discussion, we would be feedback to CES exco meeting on next Monday.  Hopefully, CES could assist KTO to incubate more entrepreneurs and transfer our R&D into market in near future.

Visit to Tsz Shan Monastery (慈山寺)

Minda and I with Father-in-law, Mother-in-law, Minda’s brother as well as Uncle from USA visited Tsz Shan Monastery (慈山寺) on 21st May 2019. Minda online booked for visiting to Tsz Shan Monastery (慈山寺) and it needs at least one month ago.  Minda and I took a photo in front of Guanyin icon(觀音聖像).


We gathered in front of the entry of Tsz Shan Monastery.  We arrived on time (booking time) and checked the booking email as well as booker’s HKID.


Then we all got the visitor pass.


A family photo took in front of Guanyin icon and temple.  The temple named Universal Gate Hall (普門) in which we could write the Buddha Bible for 45 min.  Universal Gate Hall is the second great hall of Monastery.


And then we went to the Guanyin icon and took a photo again.

Google TensorFlow Workshop of the Education Collaboration for Teachers in GBA

Google TensorFlow Workshop of the Education Collaboration for Tearchers in GBA was held on 17th May 2019 in Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Centre.  This workshop aimed to introduce Google Education Program and TensorFlow technology and skills, share practices between Google and University, and discuss a better education collaboration with teachers in Guanzhou-Hong Kong-Macao. I was honor to be invited to attend this workshop after Google AI Teacher Camp in Jan 2019.  We took a group photo during the break.


I met Dr. Ray Cheung (Director, CityU Apps Lab) and Prof. Francis Wong Man-leung (Associate Professor & Head, Department of Computing & Decision Sciences, Lingnan University).


I took photo with CityU group included Mr. Huang Sizhu (黃思待) (PhD student in CS Dept., CityU) and Dr. Ray Cheung.


Firstly, I went to the venue in School of Software Engineering, South China University of Technology (華南理工大學).


But the location was changed to Southern Club Hotel Business Class (南国会国际会议中心) near Guangdong Pharmaceutical University (广东药科大学).


I took a photo with Google two speakers – Mr. Choozen Wan (Program Manager, University Relations and Education in East Asia, Google) and Mr. Song Zhe (宋哲) (Software Engineer of Google Shanghai).


The first speaker was Mr. Choozen Wan (Program Manager, University Relations and Education in East Asia, Google) and he introduced the most updated services of Google named Google Lens (unlock visual magic) which combined Assistant, Photos and Camera.

CAAI可拓創新特訓營 – Day 2

Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence (CAAI) (中國人工智能學會) Extension Innovation Special Training Camp (可拓創新特訓營) was organized by Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence (CAAI) (中國人工智能學會), undertook by CAAI Extenics Professional Committee (中國人工智能學會可拓學專業委員會), Guangzhou Extenics Information Technology Co., Ltd. (廣州可拓學信息科技有限公司) and珠海嘉博教育文化有限公司from 11th to 12th May 2019 in Guangzhou.  In Day 2, we visited Whampoa Military Academy (黃埔軍校) and discussed in the campus.


Minda and I was invited by Ms. Guo Jiayong (郭嘉詠) (Director & Head of International Department, Guangzhou Extenics Information Technology Co., Ltd.) to participate this special training camp.  


In the beginning, Ms. Li Jianming (李劍明) distributed the ticket to us.


We invited a representative to brief us about the history and background of Whampoa Military Academy.


Then we took a photo in front of two famous poem by Sun Yat-sen.
The revolution has not been successful. (革命尚未成功)

Then I had an idea to encourage Extenics development though modifying this two famous sentence as follows.

CAAI可拓創新特訓營 – Day 1

Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence (CAAI) (中國人工智能學會) Extension Innovation Special Training Camp (可拓創新特訓營) was organized by Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence (CAAI) (中國人工智能學會), undertook by CAAI Extenics Professional Committee (中國人工智能學會可拓學專業委員會), Guangzhou Extenics Information Technology Co., Ltd. (廣州可拓學信息科技有限公司and珠海嘉博教育文化有限公司  from 11th to 12th May 2019 in Guangzhou.  Minda and I was invited by Ms. Guo Jiayong (郭嘉詠) (Director & Head of International Department, Guangzhou Extenics Information Technology Co., Ltd.) to participate this special training camp.

In the beginning of Day 1 camp, Prof. Yang Chunyan (楊春燕) chaired the first session and introduced guest experts and invited Prof. Cai Wen to give us a special report.


Prof. Cai Wen (蔡文) was keynote speaker and his topic named “Progress in the Promotion of Extenics Research and Application” (可拓學研究與應用推廣進展).  Prof. Cai said “Extenics is to study the possibility of matters’ extension and rules and methods of innovation with formalized models.”


Then he explained the Extenics mainly to solve contradiction problem which separated into incompatible problems and antithetical problems.  All participants were focused on Prof. Cai Wen explanation and examples. He also said innovation came from solving the contradiction problems.

Seminar on the Ecology of Entrepreneurship and the Environment

The Seminar named “The Ecology of Entrepreneurship and the Environment” was co-organized by Institute of Entrepreneurship (IfE), PolyU and MIT Hong Kong Innovation Node, and supported by HKSTP.  The seminar aimed to share MIT’s environmental programs in education, research and public engagement; as well as, to discuss what makes “Entrepreneurial Ecosystems” successful and explore innovation and entrepreneurship in relation to environmental issues.


I met Mr. Peter Fung (Former Chairman, HKSQ).


Dr. David Broadstock (Assistant Professor, School of Accounting and Finance, PolyU) was moderator and he gave a short local context before the seminar.  He said C-suite are a driving force for this topic.  Then he searched news (265 articles) for “Hong Kong” + “Ecology” + “Entrepreneur” + “Environment” and found that most words frequency are credit processing, financial service, etc.  Environment result is comparative small. 


He concluded the local ecosystem was tilted towards financial innovations such as Fintech, Accountech, Green Finance and ESG investment.


Then Mr. Christopher Noble (Director of Corporate Engagement Environmental Solutions Initiative MIT) gave a talk to us.  


Firstly, he explained why he become an entrepreneur and then to be environmentalist.

Visit to Shenzhen Institute of Technology (深圳技師學院)

Hong Kong Trainer Centre (HKTC) (香港培訓師中心) and Hong Kong Association of Staff and Workers Education and Vocational Training (HKASWEVT) (香港職工教育及職業培訓協會) arranged a visit to the Shenzhen Institute of Technology (深圳技師學院) on 7th May 2019.  Thanks for Mr. Ng Kwong Sun, Sam (Chairman, HKASWEVT) arranged and invited me to join this visit.

Visit to State Key Laboratory of Agrobiotechnology (CUHK) and promoting Extenics

I visited Prof. Lam Hon-Ming (Director of the State Key Laboratory of Agrobiotechnology (The Chinese University of Hong Kong) and Professor of the School of Life Sciences at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK)) office and State Key Laboratory of Agrobiotechnology (CUHK) on 6th May 2019.  Prof. Lam introduced his research on soybean and I briefed the Extension Innovation Method.  We were seeking any synergy to cross-over Agrobiotechnology and Extenics.  


Prof. Lam Hon-Ming lead an international collaborative research team completed the world’s first reference-grade wild soybean genome which provides an important tool for soybean genetic research internationally.  It lays a solid foundation for comparative genomic studies of legume and soybean improvement programmes, and helps to improve the tolerance and other agronomic traits of soybean.


Then I visited his laboratory SKL of Agrobiotechnology and we took a photo in front of the laboratory.


Many equipment inside the laboratory were observed.


Prof. Lam had another laboratory named “Plant Molecular Biology and Genetics Research Laboratory”.
