Chinese Traditional Wisdom for the Study of Knowing People II (中華智慧知人學 II)–Lecture 2 & Ms. So Easy Birthday Party

Minda attended Prof. Pang’s (彭泓基教授) course named “Chinese Traditional Wisdom for the Study of Knowing People II” (中華智慧知人學 II) lecture 2 on 6^th Sep 2025 alone. Since I need to go to CityUHK (Dong Guan) for teaching, I missed the lecture 2 and reviewed the video recording afterward. In the beginning, Prof. Pang continued the art of observing people based on the Eight Characters(八字命理的觀人術).

Eight Characters Numerology Analysis (八字命理分析) were discussed again.

Ten God (十神) meanings were reviewed.

He then demonstrated how to interpret the combination and conflict (合與沖)

The second topic was “The meaning of divination” (Qualitative Forecasting Model).

Finally, he used “靈棋經” that is ancient Chinese divination book for some predictions.

The chess showed.

The calculation was described and then search the book & AI for explanation. 

After the class, most of classmates to have lunch with Prof. Pang together.

Then some of them went to Partick Lui’s home to play with his cats.

That night, we held a birthday party for Ms. So Easy at CityU Chinese Restaurant and prepared some decorations.

Before the event began, all the ladies took a photo with Ms. So Easy.

Afterward, all the gentlemen also took a photo with Ms. So Easy.

And then Prof. Pang come and we all took a group photo.

We had a good dinner and wines (Thanks for wines sponsor - Partick Lui and Keith).

Lastly, we took a photo with Ms. So Easy and her birthday cake.

Chinese Traditional Wisdom for the Study of Knowing People II (中華智慧知人學 II)–Lecture 1

Minda and I attended Prof. Pang’s (彭泓基教授) course named “Chinese Traditional Wisdom for the Study of Knowing People II” (中華智慧知人學 II) again. Lecture 1 was held on 23^rd Aug 2025. Due to the large amount of content, the course started half an hour earlier. 

In the first lecture, Prof. Pang briefed his content coverage and focused on application of different divination (術數占卜) to predict people’s characteristics. He said “Life is about learning how to be a human being.”

Many classmates joined online and onsite. Prof. Pang mentioned that the candle is used to represent the essence, energy and spirit. The candle's "shape" is a metaphor for the human's "essence", "fire" is a metaphor for "energy", and "light" is a metaphor for "spirit". (用蠟燭比喻精氣神，蠟燭的「形體」比喻為人的「精」，「火」比喻為「氣」，而「光」比喻為「神」。 )

Then he said “Learning to be a good person is a lifelong process.” And then he briefed some key points and they were to learn to admit mistakes, learn to be gentle, learn to be tolerant, learn to communicate, learn to let go, learn to be moved, and learn to survive, etc.

After that he reviewed Yin and Yang and the Five Elements (陰陽五⾏).

Prof. Pang explained the basic concept of the relationship among heaven, earth and man (天地人).

And then he employed five elements to explain different people’s characteristics and their relationship.

He also demonstrated how to calculate the combination and conflict (合與沖)

Finally, a person’s journey is like a life cycle, with different conditions at different stages.

Lastly, the art of observing people based on the Eight Characters(八字命理的觀人術) were discussed. 

Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches (天幹地支) were reviewed again. Then he used different example to let us know the relationship among different eight characters (八字) and how others affect you based on five elements.

At the end, he demonstrated how powerful Generative AI is. Deep Seek for Eight Characters Numerology Analysis (八字命理分析) were discussed.

After class, Minda and I had lunch with her family this time.

Review of the “I Ching Beginning Course” (重溫易經初班) and Kinsen Birthday Party

 Minda and I reattended Prof. Pang’s (彭泓基教授) course named “I Ching Beginning Course” (易經初班) on 9^th Aug 2025. Prof. Pang taught “I Ching Beginning Course”(易經初班) again for some classmates who attended Chinese Traditional Wisdom for the Study of Knowing People (中華智慧知人學) but missed previous “I Ching” courses. The courses are welcome us to re-attend again for free!

Prof. Pang introduced the history of I Ching development and some background knowledge.

After the lecture, we had lunch together with new participants. Ms. So come with her son and son’s friend to attend the course!

Then we prepared the birthday party for our class representative Mr. Kinsen Leung. Minda and I took a birthday cake.

And then I blew up a word balloons.

Mr. Partick Lui blew up other balloons.

And then Ms. Pauline Ni and I held the words balloon and Minda to judge the alignment.

Before the dinner, we took a group photo.

Kinsen took a photo with birthday cake and decoration.

We had a happy birthday dinner with Kinsen tonight.

Visit Taoist Medicine (道醫) in Zhongshan

 Minda and I with classmates to visit Prof. Pang’s (彭泓基教授) Taoist Medicine (道醫) in Zhongshan (中山) on 29^th Jun 2025 (Sunday). In the beginning, we arrived the Shenzhen North Railway Station (深圳北站) and had breakfast first.

And then we took the train (動車) to the Guangzhou South Railway Station (廣州南站). 

After that we transferred to another train (便捷).

Finally, we arrived Xiaolan Railway Station (小欖站). 

We took a taxi and arrived the restaurant and met Prof. Pang, Ms. So (So Easy) and her son (紋龍) (Left 3) & son’s friend (超傑) (Left 4).

All team members arrived (Robert, Cylinna, Cindy and Lisa) and we had a good lunch.

Very delicious dessert!

In afternoon, we arrived the clinic and took photo in front of the brand.

So Easy and Minda also took a photo.

Prof. Pang arrived and we took a group photo.

The core value of the clinic is “The most simple medical way, No disease in the world” (至簡醫道 天下無疾).

The Taoist Medine is Mr. Qiu Wanfu (邱萬福).

Finally, we took a photo before left the clinic. We appreciated Cylinna drove us back to Hong Kong from Zhongshan.

We stopped in the shopping mall in Zhuhai (珠海) for quick dinner.

It is Chinese style fast food.

A lot of people are crossing the border tonight that so many private cars queuing.

The following slides to explain the different among “Western medicine”, “Chinese medicine” and “Taoist medicine” which stated in Prof. Pang’s talk named “Exploration of Life and Death - Sharing of Life Wisdom” (易學及道化講座: 生與死的探索-生命智慧的分享) on 12^th Jun 2025.

The fundamental theory among them were described. 

The difference of Diagnostic Methods were discussed that Western medicine is based on scientific methods and Chinese medicine is based on observation and TCM theory. Similarly, Taoist medicine is integrated Chinese medicine and Taoist theories that focused on soul/spirit. 

The treatment of Taoist medicine was Chinese medicine plus Guidance (導引術). Daoyin (導引) is a health-preserving method that mainly relies on physical exercise and breathing, and it originated from ancient dance movements.

The key different understanding of disease that Chinese medicine considered on balance and Taoist medicine concerned the body and mind are not in harmony with the Way of Heaven (身心與天道不和). 

Prof. Pang concluded that urgent disease needs to seek Western medicine and chronic disease uses Chinese medicine, but psychological diseases had better seek Taoist medicine.
