Chinese Traditional Wisdom for the Study of Knowing People (中華智慧知人學)–Lecture 2

 Minda and I attended Prof. Pang’s (彭泓基教授) course named “Chinese Traditional Wisdom for the Study of Knowing People” (中華智慧知人學). Lecture 2 was held on 26^th Apr 2025. Before the class, we brough some reference book for further study.

Our HKSQ friend Mr. Ben Tsang also joined together.

In Lecture 2, Prof. Pang explained how to observe people (觀人的方法)

Firstly, Prof. Pang discussed the Elements of Virtue (賢德) that from the book named《尚書》in which contained nine virtues. The key to virtue is knowing people and assigning them to the right positions.

Then he introduced Six Characteristics of Judging People (六徵觀人法).

The first one is “Observe Sincerity” (觀誠) that observe and test its sincerity. Be filial to your parents, then gain the trust of your friends, and then gain the trust of your superiors.

The second one is “Examination of the Mind”(考志) that knowing someone’s intentions by observing their words.

The third one is “Looking inside” (視中) to observing someone’s heart. Seeing the big picture from the small details.

The fourth one is “Observe the External Appearance” (觀色). What is stored in the heart is often reflected in the face.

The fifth and sixth items are “Observe the Hidden Places” (觀隱) and “Examining and Measuring Morality” (揆德).

Finally, Prof. Pang stated principles of talent selection (選拔人才的原則). Integrity is a must.

Lastly, he discussed the application of talent selection and the next lecture would discuss how to identify evil bad guy.

After the lecture, some classmates had lunch with Prof. Pang together.
