HKSQ organized seminar/webinar on “How ChatGPT and Hyper-Automation can help you transform your business?” on 17 Feb 2023. E-Mar Intelliegnt Technology Ltd is coorganzer; CityU EngD Society and TQM Consultant Ltd are supporting organizations. Hyper-automation is not a new term in the industry. With the breakthrough of the deep learning technology such as GPT-3, hyper-automation can be empowered by this kind of the state-of-art technology to deliver the sophisticated automation solutions to the users. Before the seminar/webinar, the guest took a group photo.

Then Dr. YC Chau, Dr. Roy Wong and I meet online and captured the photo for memory.

In the beginning, Dr. Jane Wong (Chairman, HKSQ) introduced our guest speaker Dr. Roy Wong (CTO, E-Mars Intelligent Technology Ltd; and Founder of Rotechverse Ltd).

Dr. Roy Wong then introduced today’s seminar topics including ChatGPT, Hyper-automation, use cases and its implementation. Firstly, he briefed what is Chat GPT that GPT stands for Generative Pre-trained Transformer. It is a generative AI and can compose text passages.

And then he briefed the different between traditional natural language processing (NLP) and transformer architecture employed in large language model.

After that Dr. Roy Wong introduced four key ways to deploy the technology of ChatGPT including As-Is (using OpenAI), Prompt engineering without API and using API, as well as, Customer build/direct interaction with a foundation model.

Dr. Wong also mentioned “Hyper-automation” that is a business-driven, disciplined approach that organization use to rapidly identify, vet and automat as many businesses and IT process as possible. He said digital leader should be orchestrated use of multiple technologies, tools or platforms. He then briefed the foundation principle of robotic process automation (PRA).

Finally, Dr. Roy Wong briefed some application for ChatGPT and RPA including analyse customer feedback, prescreening resumes and recruitment posting. He also introduced different RPA tools such as UiPat Studio, Power Automate, LaiYe and Robocorp.

Hyper-automation solution employed different technologies such as RPA, ChatGPT, OCR, to enhance the efficiency of the operation.

Lastly, Dr. Roy Wong introduced five steps pilot plan for hyper-automation and AI strategy. He said it is important to identify your goal and measure the KPIs. He concluded that RPA is a management project rather than IT project. It is related to change management.

Seminar on Application Case Sharing of Supercomputer "Tianhe-2"  in Artificial Intelligence (超級電腦「 天河二號 」 在人工智 能 的應用案例分享會) organized by the Guangzhou HKUST Fok Ying Tung Research Institute (廣州市香港科大霍英東研究院), co-organized by Department of Advanced Design and Systems Engineering (ADSE), CityU and CityU EngD Society, as well as, supported by Hong Kong Society for Quality (HKSQ), Hong Kong Chinese Institute of Engineers (HKCIE), HKPC and IETHK, held in CityU on 26^th Apr 2023. Before the seminar, we met in the entry of CityU and took a photo.

Then Annie led other guests to go to CityU and we had lunch together.

Before seminar start, we took a guest group photo with Prof. Dang (Dept. Head of ADSE, CityU).

Then group photo with all participants was taken for memory. 

In the beginning, Prof. Chuangyin Dang (黨創寅) (Dept. Head of ADSE, CityU) gave welcome speech and introduced our department and academic programmes. 

And then I represented CityU EngD Society to give introductory speech of EngD Society history and its activities.

The first speaker was Mr. Chen (陳璟錕) (中山大學-國家超級計算廣州中心高性能部副部長) and his topic entitled “Introduction to the National Supercomputer Center (NSCC) in Guangzhou” (國家超級計算廣州中心簡介). Firstly, he briefed the background of NSCC and then shared some projects employed NSCC service.

The first shared case was the optimization of Reverse Osmosis (RO) for solving the risk of water shortage. The module introduced AI for parameter design using 1000 Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Simulation unit and employed 19200 CPU!

After that he introduced the Star Light supercomputing application platform in which consolidated high performance computing, AI and big data analysis so as to support different industries applications. 

Lastly, Mr. Chen shared the future development of NSCC including employed powerful CPU and enhancing AI using FPGA and GPU.

The second speaker was Mr. Sun (孫亞強) (中國科學院自動化研究所副高級工程師，廣東人工智慧與先進計算研究院機器視覺團隊負責人) and his presentation named “Advanced Intelligence Computing Platform and Industry Applications” (先進智慧計算平臺與行業應用). He firstly introduced Guangdong Institute of AI and Advanced Computing (GIAIAC) established since 2019 with 169 staffs.

And then he introduced different research facilities and projects such as radio astronomy (射電天文), quantum computing, drone inspection, AGI, and medical plus supercomputing.

Finally, Mr. Sun introduced their precision AI server Xiangxue-3B (香雪-3B) and get good results in MLPerf AI training. He also compared with Meta OPT and ChatGPT hardware employing Nvidia GPU.

The third speaker was Mr. Lin (林楨哲) (中山大學中山眼科中心演算法工程師) and his topic was “Advances in Research and Application of Digital Ophthalmology” (數位眼科研究及應用進展). He introduced they are the biggest Eyes (Ophthalmology) Hospital in China and established since 1965. 

Their researches on prevention of blindness are very successful and published many top journals such as Nature, Nature Medicine, THE LANCET, etc. The central government also concern their contribution and promoted to prevention of nearsightedness.

After that Mr. Lin mentioned modeling the eyes to be digital twins for human eyes. 

Finally, he also introduced different application for prevention eyes problem from children using Apps diagnostic. In order to protect the privacy of patients, they introduced digital mask technology.

The fourth speaker was Mr. Jiang (江振錢) (廣州納指數據智慧科技有限公司產品總監) and his presentation title was “How Starlight Cloud drives Industrial Innovation through AI+HPC” (星光雲腦如何通過AI+HPC驅動產業創新). Firstly he introduced Datanas (纳指数据智能) history and services on AI plus High-Performance Computing (HPC). Datanas established in 2016. They had achieved many certification including ISO 9001, ISO 20000 and ISO 27001. 

One of their services is industry inspection and distance testing. This service related to quality assurance and enhancing product quality and reducing the risk.

Finally, he also demonstrated the portal for Guangdong Federation of Industry and Commerce use.

The last speaker was Ms. Peng (彭子鈗) and she introduced different preferential policies for supporting Tianhe-2 users in Hong Kong. In the beginning, Ms. Peng introduced the services of National Supercomputer Centrer in Guanzhou and Nansha Sub-centre.

One of special arrangement is the direct connection from the centre to HKUST through dedicated optical fiber line.

Lastly, she presented the preferential reward policy for the user in Hong Kong and Macau.

IAQ Website Knowledge Transfer Meeting

After the first International Academy for Quality (IAQ) communication committee meeting held on 5^th Apr 2023. Dr. Catherine Chan, Mr. Anil Sachedv and I held a IAQ website knowledge transfer meeting on 24^th Apr 2023. 

During the meeting, I shared how to amend the content, create a new page for Think Tank and update News, as well as, white papers into IAQ website. The backend file structure was introduced that mainly separated into document and figures.

Thanks for Catherine and Anil continue the maintenance of IAQ website.

I Ching and the Wisdom of Life IV (易經與人生智慧)

Prof. Peng’s (彭泓基教授) introduction course for I Ching named “I Ching and the Wisdom of Life” (易經與人生智慧) Lecture 4 was held on 22^nd Apr 2023. The course has four lectures and this is the last course. I would like to summarize some key points for sharing below. In the beginning, Prof. Peng briefed the wisdom of I Ching and numerical fortune-telling. 

He then mentioned the Ching Xiang Thinking (易象思維) and quote 王弼 that “得意可以忘象” meaning that get the concept and forget the image. 

And then Prof. Peng briefed the history of divination “占卜” and said performing divination when doubt. If you haven’t doubt, no need for divination. (卜以決疑， 不疑何卜。) It is not superstition (迷信) if and only if you understand the concept behind and connected with real situation plus your logic thinking.

After that Prof. Peng demonstrated the old-style divination using yarrow (sci. name: Achillea alpina) (蓍草). It is very time consumption to predict each Gua (卦).

He also mentioned five elements (五行) eight classics hexagrams (八經卦) as well as Innate gossip and Acquired gossip (先天後天八卦). It is key concept and important part of I Ching.

Why Chinese fortune-teller always count their fingers in the firm? After Prof. Peng explanation, I understood that related to eight classics hexagrams (八經卦).

And then he introduced another divination method named “money divination” (金錢卜筮法). Use three coins for divination each time. Many Chinese film used Turtle and Coins (龜背銅錢) for divination.

He demonstrated how to get the Yao (爻) based on the coins’ front and back surface. 

Once six Yao collected, he explained the original Gua (本卦) and its processing Gua (互卦) and then to Change Gua (變卦).

Finally, Prof. Peng stated the Code of Conduct for divination master (斷卦師) that is very important because of affecting peoples’ decision.

Lastly, Prof. Peng shared one of classmates Ms. Wong’s business case and using card of I Ching to demonstrate the result. Ms. Wong also shared her experience.

The divination named “Seven Star Array” (七星芒陣) and the sequence meaning are: Top 1 – Suggestion; Middle Left – Present, Middle Middle – Development, Middle Right – Family; Low Left – Missing, Low Middle – Past and Low Right – Environment.

During Q&A, I asked that how accuracy for I Ching apps predication that seems to random draw. Prof. Peng said it depended on how your interpretation for the Gua (卦).

At the end, I gave my book to Prof. Peng for memory.  We all are looking forward to Prof. Peng’s second course.
