IAQ General Meeting 2020 (Online)

The IAQ General Meeting 2020 was held online on 20th Oct 2020 (HK time zone). Before the presentation, Acn. Liz Keim (President, International Academy for Quality) gave welcome speech. The maximum participants were upto 44 academicians.  I took a group photos below for memory.

In the beginning, Acn. Raul Molteni led the topic on Governance Think Tank Update and Discussion.  He briefed the objective that insights on future Corporate Governance objectives, accountability, organization and best practices due to technology, social, environmental, economic, business and globalization evolution and innovation.

Then he mentioned 5 workshop would be performed and then would document with insights, data and conclusions to be published by IAQ.  After that he stated some warmup information provided from Blanton Godfrey, Gregory Watson and Javier Negri.

Finally, Acn. Raul Molteni summarized the progress of the think tank and had collected 88 insights and suggestions.  He mentioned to make insights visible!

Acn. Bob King was the second speaker and his led the session on Healthcare Think Tank Update and Discussion

And then he introduced TRIZ social innovation Cafes that helped with many of the social problems created by the pandemic and mentioned below.

1.      Using TRIZ to fight the COVID-19 Pandemic

2.      Enabling Kenya students with no or minimal WIFI to study at home during School shutdowns.

3.      Teaching young girls STEM at home and

4.      Teaching Africa small farmers at home how to succeed with their farming during the pandemic.

During the talk, many academicians replied in the chatbox that they had MATRIZ levels from 2 to 4.  One got the level 5!  After the talk, I used one of my teaching slide to comment that it was different to adopt the engineering parameters into social problems using Contradiction table.  And the other problem was from General Solutions (from 40 inventive principles) transferred to Specific Solution.

Acn. Jim Duarte was the third speaker and his topic entitled “Data Science Value Chain”.  Before his talk, he briefed his background of Applied Statistics.  Then he said two major parts of the 4.0 culture that were Digital Transformation and Analytics.

Then Jim said quality professionals were more than inspector, policy enforcer, documentation expert and quality estimator.  He said that integrating Data Science into Quality & 4.0 culture was the future role of quality professional.

And then he described analytics from IT vs OT. OT is Operational Technology that included sensors, AI and Robotic.

After that Acn. Jim Duarte briefed the 5 stages of analytical maturity from (1) Analytically Impaired to (2) Localized Analytics, to (3) Analytical Aspirations, to (4) Analytical Company and finally to (5) Analytical Competitor that need to understand the Data Science Value Chain.

In stage 4, he mentioned different Data Scientist Roles as follows:

Data Scientist I – Strategist (Computer Scientist)

Data Scientist II – Boundary Spanner (Advanced Analytics)

Data Scientist III – Applications Ninja (Business Analyst)

Data Scientist IV – Storyteller (Validates Reports)

He added that quality professionals should know more about Math & Statistics including Machine Learning, Statistical Modeling, etc.

In stage 5, he demonstrated the whole Data Science Value Chain with different role of data scientists. Finally, he proposed seven newer tools for Quality 4.0 as following:

1.      Predictive Modeling (supervised)

2.      Network Diagrams (unsupervised disrupting Pareto)

3.      Cluster Analysis (unsupervised)

4.      Text Analysis (unsupervised) – 85% of today’s data

5.      Discrete Event Simulation (queueing theory)

6.      Event Stream Processing (unsupervised)

7.      Sankey (Flow) Diagrams (unsupervised)

Lastly he said “Don’t let Quality 4.0 leave you behind!”

Acn. Shinichi Sasaki (Former Executive VP of Toyota Motor Corporation) was the last speaker and give us Address from JUSE President.  Firstly, he briefed his background and then shared the Roots of Toyota and Toyota Quality.

Acn. Shinichi Sasaki showed his quality journey since 1970 and IAQ experience.  And then he shared inherited spirits of Toyota Founders.  The roots of Toyota Quality are automatic stopping device when thread severed since 1924 (Roots of Toyota Production System) and Customer First.

Then he briefed the birth of “Built in Quality” that “The Soul of inspection is not to inspect” that should be created the quality inside the process since 1960.  And than Toyota introduced of Total Quality Control which aimed to revolutionize scientific business management, and develop and manufacture high quality, low-priced vehicles.

After that he introduced Ji Kotei-Kanketsu (JKK) to achieve built-in quality by engineering approach to combine inspections, quality gate and JKK.

Lastly, Acn. Shinichi Sasaki shared the evolution of Toyota “CASE & MaaS” to create new service and new business model. For new business model, Toyota would transform from Car-making Company to Mobility Company.

At the end, he shared JUSE redefinition of the Quality Management that continue to contribute to realizing a sustainable society.
