Visit Material Tech Co. Ltd. for COMP Students’ Capstone Project

On HKQF the 16^th TIC-ITAC meeting, I mentioned our capstone project to Chairman of TIC-ITAC Mr. Felix Chan (Managing Director, Material Tech) and he was very interested. Then he invited me to visit his construction laboratory named “Material Tech Co. Ltd.” on 26^th Mar 2025.

Thanks Mr. Herman Tang (Assistant General Manager) drove me to the laboratory and we took a photo for memory.

In office, I found their HOKLAS certificate for Construction Materials, Calibration Services and Quality Management System Certification.

They supported and were recognized by the Hong Kong Qualifications Framework (HKQF) and the Hong Kong Council of Testing and Certification (HKCTC) Award Scheme.

After that we visited the laboratory area and saw different equipment such as compression machine.

Steel bar testing area was visited.

Equipment is used for measuring of steel bar thread.

Test small concrete cubes.

Engineer demonstrated how to measure the dimension of small concrete cubes and we would like to use robotic arm in future.

Finally, we took a photo in the entry of laboratory.

I am very grateful to Mr. Felix Chan for providing this opportunity for PolyU COMP students as their capstone project.

The 10th meeting of HKCTC Panel on Manpower Development

The 10th meeting of HKCTC Panel on Manpower Development was held on 25^th Mar 2025. I joined onsite meeting and we took a group photo at the end for memory.

I met Dr. George Lau and he now served in Tung Wan College as VP (Administration and Development) in President’s Office.

Other members are online. Mr. Robert Lui appeared online after the plane landed.

We had a good meeting for coming activities.

HKCTC the 3rd Brand Strategy Revamp Meeting

The Hong Kong Council for Testing and Certification (HKCTC) held the 3^rd rebranding meeting on 29^th Nov 2024. Before the meeting, I met Prof. WONG Wing-tak (Chairman, HKCTC) and panel secretary Mr. Steven Chan.

In the beginning, Prof. Wong gave welcome speech.

Our panel convener Dr. Emmie Ho and other members joined the meeting online.

We discussed the concept of slogans both Chinese and English as well as logo color code.

Finally, Dr. Roberto Vilchis Echeverri (Assistant Professor of Practice, School of Design) demonstrated the color code and tone after printing.

HKCTC the 2nd Brand Strategy Revamp Meeting

The Hong Kong Council for Testing and Certification (HKCTC) held the 2^nd rebranding meeting on 12^th Nov 2024. Before the meeting, I met the manpower development panel members Dr. Fanny Tang (HKMU), Dr. Cheung Kwai-Chung (VTC) and panel secretary Mr. Steven Chan.

Our panel convener Dr. Emmie Ho led the meeting online and Mr. Lau Wai-Ming joined the meeting. Ms. Bowie Tam prepared the presentation.

Then we exchanged ideas on revamp items.

Finally, we took a group with online and offline for memory. Panel on Manpower Development members included Dr. Cheung Kwai-Chung, Ms. Fiona Lee, Dr. Lesly Lam, Dr. Fanny Tang, Mr. Robert Lui (online) and Dr. Emmie Ho (online)

HKCTC Brand Strategy Revamp Meeting

The Hong Kong Council for Testing and Certification (HKCTC) has engaged the School of Design of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) for a rebranding project focusing on redefining the visual identity and communication strategies of the Council. The HKCTC Brand Strategy Revamp was held on 29^th Oct 2024. Before the meeting, I met the manpower development panel Chairlady Dr. Emmie Ho and Mr. Steven Chan.

I met new PolyU colleagues Dr. Roberto Vilchis Echeverri (Assistant Professor of Practice, School of Design) and Ms. Bowie Tam.

I also met Mr. Robert Lui. We are both previous exco member of CityU Eminence Society.

In the beginning, Dr. Emmie Ho gave welcome speech on behalf of Prof. Wong Wing-Tak (Chairman, HKCTC).

Then Ms. Bowie Tam reviewed the whole schedule of branding revamp.

Today’s agenda including to finalize brand compass, discussion of design direction and slogan.

We selected the direction of “Catalyzing Synergy for Boundless Growth”.

Then Dr. Robert V. Echeverri briefed the overview of logo type to us.

Life-span of a brand element included Brand name, Logo, Tagline, Website and Ad Campaign were discussed.

We all focused on PolyU design team presentation.

After that logo ideas were demonstrated. Different color codes and its explanation were mentioned.

Finally, we discussed the brand slogan in functional criteria and strategic & creative criteria.

Based on different criteria, positioning of HKCTC was proposed.

At the end, we took a group photo for memory.

The 9th meeting of HKCTC Panel on Manpower Development

I was honor to be invited by HKCTC as a member of the panel on manpower development again in 2024. The 9th meeting of HKCTC Panel on Manpower Development was held on 4^th Oct 2024. We took a group photo at the end for memory.

Before the meeting, I met Dr. Lillian Chow. Long time no see. I remembered she and Ms. Bella Ho promoted ISO 15189 in the past. I took a photo during our discussion. Mr. Robert Lui sit near me. We are both member of CityU Eminence Society.

Our meeting is both onsite and online.

Hopefully, our support would enhance the manpower development in T&C industry.

Presentation on Rebranding Project of HKCTC

The Hong Kong Council for Testing and Certification (HKCTC) has engaged the School of Design of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) for a rebranding project focusing on redefining the visual identity and communication strategies of the Council. A series of workshops and surveys were conducted in the past few months and the project is close to completion. The presentation of the outcome and findings was held on 8 March 2024. Firstly, I met the Chairman and took photo for memory.

In the beginning, Prof. Wong Wing-Tak (Chairman, HKCTC) gave a welcome speech.

Then Prof. Benny Leong introduced the presentation session including brand strategy design, their approach, current gap and proposal. The aim of workshops is to reinforce and enhance the “Test in Hong Kong, Certified in Hong Kong” brand via Strategic Branding Design. He also introduced Design team including Erika Ho (1^st left standup one) for branding, Cyrick Leung for marketing and Karen Yue for UI/UX design.

And then Prof. Leong briefed the overview of the rebrand project through four steps and they were “Discover”, “Define”, “Develop” and “Deliver”. That is comprehend to understanding of HKCTC and co-research with all stakeholders.

After that three core pillars of HKCTC was briefed including Reliability, Trustworthiness and High-quality. Karen briefed that Reliability separated into two parts and they were Global Connectivity and Industry Reputation. Trustworthiness also separated into two parts and they were Regular Industry Updates and Long-Standing Reputation. High-quality appeared most frequency in workshop participants.

Then Cyrick Leung mentioned the current gaps from Assorted to Reassuring, from Reactive to Agile, and from Potential to Market Enabling.

For Market Enabling part, researchers received strong and weak signals that HKCTC should pioneer new practices for the T&C industry, in regards to the changing market landscape and evolving market needs, both locally and globally.

We all discussed the rebranding strategies during the presentation workshop.

Rebranding is including four parts in different focused in problem vs opportunity, internal and external, respectively.

The short- and long-term strategies were introduced including rebranding, company credential, website revamp, PR & advertisement, as well as social media.
