Intermediate Class for I Ching (易經中班) – Lecture 3

Prof. Peng’s (彭泓基教授) Intermediate class for I Ching (易經中班) Lecture 3 was held on 17^th Jun 2023. The course has six lectures from 3^rd Jun to 15^th Jul 2023. I would like to summarize some key points of the lecture below. Today, Prof. Peng introduced the Tun Gua (屯卦) to explain entrepreneurship is hard and success is not easy.

Then he explained the structure of Jin Gua (屯卦) using eight classics hexagrams (八經卦) that upper gua is Kan (坎) and lower gua is Zhen (震). It indicates that water (水) in the upper part and thunder (雷) in the bottom part.

And then Prof. Peng briefed different change of Jin Gua (屯卦) would become different Gua with different meaning. He demonstrated to use Mutual hexagrams (互卦) that the Jin Gua (屯卦) changed to Bo Gua (剥卦).

Using Reverse 綜之(倒轉) of lower part Zhen (震) become Gen (艮) for mountain.

Another changed both upper and lower part using mutual hexagrams and opposite of yin and yang (錯之) respectively. 

After that he showed us the overall change steps of Jin Gua (屯卦). 

If both upper and lower part employed opposite of yin and yang (錯卦), Jin Gua (屯卦) become tripod hexagram (鼎卦). It means to overcome difficulty using right way and innovation.

Finally, Prof. Peng demonstrated all possible changes which started from Jin Gua (屯卦).

In the second part of lecture, he discussed Chinese and Western culture.  He gave a simple definition of culture that is inheritance of wisdom. (文化是智慧的傳承)

He introduced the definition of wisdom to us again. It is very good definition I never meet before.

Lastly, Prof. Peng introduced the Meng Gua (蒙卦) that related to education and training talents.

He said to cultivate talents that needs two conditions. They are suitable time and good ethic character.

At the end, Prof. Peng mentioned his ideal talent model.
