Ritual and Music Education as well as Chinese and Western Culture(禮樂教化與中西文化)

I Ching classmates attended Prof. Peng’s (彭泓基教授) talk and music performance named “Ritual and Music Education as well as Chinese and Western Culture(禮樂教化與中西文化)” on 29^th Jun 2023. We took a group photo during the break for memory. 

Before the talk, Mr. Wong (Vice Chairman, Hong Kong Taoist Association - 香港道教聯合會副主席黃成益) presented appreciation certificates to all guest performers. 

In the beginning, Prof. Peng briefed the definition of Culture that is inheritance of life wisdom. He also explained that Wisdom is “Understanding all things’ phenomena and principles”. Then he mentioned what is Tao (道). 

Then he explained the culture different between Chinese and Western. And then he explained three key philosophies that Confucianism (儒家) for present and effort, Taoism (道家) for health and nature, and Buddhism (佛家) for heart and after life.

Prof. Peng introduced the Ritual (禮) from Confucianism in China that included its culture, politic, history and traditional characteristics. 

After that he explained the Confucianism view of Ritual and Music that is political tools, beauty and good combination, it is the last lesson for gentleman (君子). He also explained what is sound and music. The beauty of guqin (古琴) and vertical bamboo flute (洞簫) are introduced.

Finally, he mentioned real masters characteristics (高人) like Ritual and Music to educate public.

The part B music performance started after the break. Prof. Peng introduced performers. 

And then we enjoyed the beautiful Chinese music.

Prof. Peng performed Chinese lute (琵琶). 

Prof. Peng also performed digital Saxophone (數碼色士風).

Finally, Kuan’s family with Prof. Peng and his senior classmate to perform a original music named “Looking at the sea (望海)” that related to Ganga (印度恒河).

Lastly, Mr. Wong (Vice Chairman, Hong Kong Taoist Association) gave final remarks and he together with performers thanked to all audience.

Minda and I took a photo for memory.

Before go to the venue, we had dinner in Thailand style grill restaurant.

We enjoyed foods but it is little bit spicy. 

Some decoration for HKSAR establishment day on 1^st July are observed.

We enjoyed a happy music night.
