PolyU FITE Seminar Series - “HKQF-TIC and the Education & Career Pathway of the TIC Profession”

I was honor to be invited by Prof. Gary Tang as a speaker of FITE Seminar and the topic entitled “The Hong Kong Qualification Framework for Testing, Inspection and Certification (TIC) and the Education & Career Pathway of the TIC Profession” on 4^th Mar 2026. This Seminar is supported by UGC's Fund for Innovative Technology-in-Education (FITE) under Faculty of Science, PolyU.

Before the seminar began, I took a photo with Prof. Gary Tang and Dr. Joe Lam in class.

In the beginning, I introduced the Hong Kong Qualification Framework (HKQF) for testing, inspection and certification (TIC) and there has seven QF levels.

And then I briefed the Hong Kong Council for Testing and Certification which established in Sep 2009. It aims to formulate overall development strategy of Hong Kong’s testing and certification industry.

After that I shared my career experience entitled “Connect the dots” which was based on Steve Jobs statement in Stanford Commencement Address in 2005. He said “You can't connect the dots looking forward you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future.” I demonstrated all my dots in past 30+ years experience.

I asked the students to vote for their three areas of greatest interest, and the results showed that they were medical testing, food testing, and traditional Chinese medicine testing.

Finally, I surveyed the students about their desired careers and found that chemist, inspector, and auditor were the top three career choices.

The last topics I shared were my company-based capstone projects in COMP department. I invited TIC industry to support my students project including precious metals test, construction test, ecotoxicity test and drug packaging industry.

Then Prof. Gary Tang led the Q&A session.

Lastly, Dr. Joe Lam and Prof. Gary Tang presented souvenir to me.

SQCxHKSQ Quality Week Webinar – Quality Innovation – Risk and Opportunity of AIIMS

Saudi Quality Council (SQC) and Hong Kong Society for Quality (HKSQ) co-organized Quality Week Webinar named “Quality Innovation – Risk and Opportunity of AI Innovation Management System (AIIMS)”on 13^th Nov 2025. The webinar aims to celebrating the world quality week.

In the beginning, Dr. Ayed Alamri (President, SQC) introduced SQC and the national quality week events.

He mentioned different activities and services in SQC as well as their e-book library. And then he introduced me to the participants.

I was honor to be SQC guest speaker for quality week webinar and I shared my recently study on AIIMS which also presented in ANQ Congress 2025 in online mode.

Firstly, I mentioned overview of technology crime cases in Hong Kong. AI-enable fraud had been considered recently.

Then I introduced the key standards concerned in AI Innovation Management and they were ISO9001, ISO42001, ISO 56001 and ISO27001. However, ISO42001 and ISO56001 are too new to have certificate data from ISO survey.

And then I used PDCA cycle from ISO9001 to ISO42001.

After that I compared among ISO9001, ISO42001 and ISO56001 clause by clause.

Moreover, extenics and extension innovation method were also introduced.

Finally, the conceptual framework of AI Innovation Management System (AIIMS) was proposed that separated into specific requirement in organization level, PDCA for common requirement and Risks & Opportunities Management in system or operations level.

The summary of common risks and opportunities in different management system under AIIMS were discussed. AI risks identified can be transferred to Innovation opportunities.

The 20 steps implementation of AIIMS was proposed.

Lastly, Huawei proposed strategy as case study that they fulfilled both China’s mandatory national standards (GB/T) and matching ISO international standards.

Using Risks & Opportunities Management, Huawei-specific risks and opportunities were identified.

My conclusion is to integrate AI governance, innovation management, information security under QMS backbone ISO9001 that can transform regulatory compliance into strategic advantage.

I discussed participants survey for autonomous car dilemma. It was very different compared with my students. Most students was selected don’t turn because they don’t want to take responsibility.

I also demonstrated my students group project presentation that they actually used my photo and voice to introduce their project! AI-assisted scams will be more popular.

At the end, Dr. Ayed thanks my contribution and recognized me with the council’s appreciation medal.

As well as, presented the appreciation certificate to me online. Then I congratulated Dr. Ayed and SQC to be member of Asia Network for Quality (ANQ).

CityUHK (Dongguan) ICAUAS 2025 & SYE2066 Class

On 25^th Oct 2025, the 3^rd International Conference on Advanced Unmanned Aerial System (ICAUAS) was held in CityUHK (Dongguan). I took a photo in front of the banner after my course for SYE2066 in this morning.

In my class, I introduced AI and advanced technology to ITME students.

During the class, I demonstrated different technology videos.

After the survey, students showed interested in Big data, Deep Learning/Machine Learning, AIoT and AI Robot, as well as, Search Technology.

In the ICAUAS venue, Prof. YC Chau and I took a photo with Dr. Guangjun Yang (Assoc. Director, Research Office, CityUHKDG) (Right 1) and Dr. Xing Tan (Manager, Research Office, CityUHKDG) (Left 1).

Many different types of drones demonstrated.

YC and I was invited to have lunch in the conference.

The buffet was good!

Conference provided real time photos for us to download. This drone is used for firefighting

COMPxHKSQxSQC Seminar - Best Practices on Quality Initiatives in the Era of AI

Since Saudi Quality Council (SQC) arranged a quality professional trip to China from 09-17 Oct 2025, they visited to Hong Kong on 9-10 Oct 2025. The Department of Computing, Hong Kong Polytechnic University (COMP), in collaboration with the Hong Kong Society for Quality (HKSQ) and the Saudi Quality Council (SQC), organized the seminar named “Best Practices on Quality Initiatives in the Era of AI” to exchange views and explore future collaboration opportunities in Belt and Road countries. During the seminar, participants learned about the activities of the SQC, Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030, quality infrastructure and halal certification, and AI education at PolyU.

Before SQC guests arrived, we arranged the meeting room, drinks and PolyU souvenirs.

I was appreciated to Prof. Allen Au (Asso. Head, COMP) and Dr. Jeff Tang who supported the seminar.

HKSQ chairman and vice chairman – Dr. Jane Wong and Ms. Angela Wong took care our guests in their hotel (TST) to go to PolyU.

They took MTR (one station distance) to the venue.

When they arrived PolyU, they took a photo for memory.

In the beginning, Prof. Allen Au gave a welcome speech.

Then Dr. Jane Wong gave opening remarks.

The president of SQC – Dr. Ayed Alamri gave welcome speech.

And then Prof. Allen Au on behalf of Department of Computing to present COMP 50^th anniversary souvenir to Dr. Ayed Alamri.

Dr. Ayed Alamri also presented souvenir to Prof. Au.

The first speaker was Dr. Jane Wong (Chairman, HKSQ) and her topic was “Introduction to HKSQ”.

She introduced the history of HKSQ, structure, vision, mission and strategy for promoting quality in Hong Kong.

I was on behalf of COMP to present appreciation certificate to Dr. Jane Wong.

Dr. Ayed Alamri was the second speaker and his topic entitled “Introduction to Saudi Quality Council & KSA National Quality Infrastructure”.

And then Dr. Ayed Alamri briefed the 30^th anniversary of SQC since 1994.

After that he introduced their strategy on 2025 as well as their core values.

KSA National Quality Infrastructure was mentioned.

Finally, National Quality Award Model and different quality awards in Saudi Arabia were introduced.

I presented an appreciated certificate to Dr. Ayed Alamri.

The third speaker was Eng. Waleed Alfaris and his topic named “Halal System”.

Firstly, he introduced the coverage of Halal System and introduced regional standardization organization (RSO) that is GCC Standardization Organization (GSO), etc.

And then he introduced different Halal Standards including Food, Products, Cosmetics, etc.

I presented an appreciated certificate to Eng. Waleed Alfaris.

I was the last speaker and my topic named “Introduction of Ai Education in PolyU and Enable Testing, Inspection & Certification (TIC) Industry”.

Firstly, I briefed the background and structure of our degree program in Computer Science and Enterprise Information System. And then I introduced TIC industry in Hong Kong. Lastly, I shared some capstone projects employed AI technology in different testing inspections such as construction test, drug packaging and ecotoxicology test, etc.

Dr. Jane Wong on behalf of HKSQ presented an appreciated certificate to me.

During Q&A session, SQC executive members are interested in employing AI for testing and science field.

Finally, Dr. Ayed Alamri presented souvenir to HKSQ and took a photo with HKSQ members.

He also presented the SQC Appreciation Medal to me in recognition for my excellent contribution to the quality movement in Hong Kong and support to SQC and the good memories of my participation in the Saudi National Quality Conference 2017 in Dammam city in Saudi Arabia.
