Advanced Class III for I Ching (易經高班III)–Lecture 4

Prof. Pang’s (彭泓基教授) advanced class III for I Ching (易經高班 III) the 4th lecture was held on 17^th Aug 2024. The topics of lecture 4 to 6 are related to I Ching and Divination. (易經與術數). Before the lecture, Prof. Pang briefed the “Life Lessons” (人生寶訓) that included “One Fate, Two Luck, Three Feng Shui, Four Accumulation of Yin Virtue, Five Learning, Six Reputation, Seven Appearance, Eight Worship God, Nine Make Noble friends and Ten Keep Health” (一命二運三風水四積陰德五讀書; 六名七相八敬神九交貴人十養生.)

Prof. Pang explained your birth is the fate and where your birth is the luck and Feng Shui relates to environment. To accumulation of Yin Virtue is to do right things with moral and “Learning” is number Five. Don't expect education with high academic qualifications and high knowledge. It only confirms that you are studying at the university.

He used “Half Zen” (半點禪) to summarize the correct attitude towards life.

After that Prof. Pang started the lecture 4 named “I Ching and the Basics of Divination” (易經與術數基礎).

Firstly, he introduced the human life cycle and the rules of luck change every ten years.

Secondly, he explained the “Life is fate” (⼈⽣是缘) that included “Life Lessons” and the most important is “To follow the path of Tao”(遵道而行).

Then Prof. Pang introduced the relationship between Five Element and Personality (五行論人格).

“Human exploration of the universe” observed to be similar between Eastern and Western. They both are forecasting techniques using different terminology.

And then he briefed some common divination methods origin from I Ching.

After that Prof. Pang explained how to use Hour of the Eight Characters (八字) for Destiny (命理). The example is used the birthday of new China.

He also mentioned Chinese Astrology (紫微斗數) and Qimen Dunjia (奇門遁甲).

However, the most important is the fortune teller’s code of conduct!

The last part is the relationship of Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches (天干地支的關係).

The relationship between “Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches” and “Five Elements” were explained. 

Prof. Pang also wrote the chart and explained the directions with Yin Yan and Five Elements.

Also demonstrated Earthly Branches Conjunction Algorithm (地支合指算法).

Lastly, Prof. Pang briefly introduced the conjunction between Three and Six (三合和六合).

After the class, Prof. Pang had an important meeting and left immediately. Then classmates had lunch together.
