HKSQ Membership Drive in SYE Lecture, CityU and Tea with Mr. CP Chow

 I had teaching a program named “Bachelor of Engineering in Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering (BEng ITME) 工學士 (智能製造工程學)” in Semester A, 2023/2024 again.  My lectures are in the BEng ITME Programme named “SYE 2066: Professional Engineering Practice” for year 1 students. I introduced Hong Kong Society for Quality (HKSQ) to students as membership drive on 30^th Oct 2023.

I introduced the basic element theory and extension innovation method – four steps (Model-Extension-Transformation-Selection). Most students interested in relation-element (12 votes), and then were affair-element (10 votes), as well as, matter-element (4 votes).

After that I mentioned four extension analysis method and students most like to use divergence. Then they separated into several groups for discussing their new product/service created through the steps of extension innovation method.

Finally, I introduced selection method based on novelty, practical and cost-effective indicators to choose different spoon.

After the lecture, I had a tea with Mr. CP Chow (former chairman, HKSQ) and enjoyed relax afternoon.

Dr. Roland K. Jahnke – Asia Quality Tour 2023 (Hong Kong)

Dr. Roland K. Jahnke and Mrs. Jahnke visited Hong Kong and first location is City University of Hong Kong on 27^th Oct 2023. We took a photo in front of the entry. 

Then I led them to visit our library, lecture theater and student canteen.

In this period, CityU’s Indra and Harry Banga Gallery had a show of Zodiac Heads from the Yuanmingyuan.

And then we had a tea in the student canteen in AC3.

At night, Minda joined us to have dinner in CityU faculty lounge.

We enjoyed a very happy dinner.

On 30^th Oct 2023, Dr. Roland K. Jahnke visited HKSQ in TQM Consultants office. Since I had classes to teach on that day. Dr. Jane Wong, Dr. Aaron Tong and Ms. Angela Wong to meet Roland.

Laboratory Accreditation Assessment in Macau

I went to BLC Lab from 24^th to 27^th Oct in Macau for assisting laboratory accreditation. On 24^th Oct, we prepared the document and laboratory affair in the morning for the assessment in afternoon. We took a group photo for memory. 

Also took a photo in clean room.

Laboratory accreditation assessment closing meeting was held on 26^th Sep 2023.

After assessment, we had dinner at that night.

And tasted the best mango sticky rice in Macau.

In next day, I followed the corrective actions and Dr. Aaron Tong visited the laboratory too.

Then we went back to HK by Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge Shuttle Bus afternoon. We sit on the front row in the upper layer of the bus. 

So we had a good view to enjoy the scene.

Metrology Symposium 2023 – Metrology and Our Daily Life

 Hong Kong Council for Testing and Certification (HKCTC), Government Laboratory and Standard Calibration Laboratory co-organized the Metrology Symposium 2023 on 24^th Oct 2023 in HKSTP. Hong Kong Society for Quality (HKSQ) was one of supporting organizations. The symposium theme is “Metrology and Our Daily Life”. Since I had in Macau for laboratory accreditation consultancy that I was not able to attend this event. Dr. Jane Wong (Chairman, HKSQ) and Dr. Angela (Vice-chairman, HKSQ) represented HKSQ to attend the symposium.

In the beginning, Prof. Wong Wing-tak, (HKCTC Council Chairman) gave opening speech.

The first speaker was Mr. Chris Siu (Mechanical Engineer, Water Supplies Department) and his topic entitled “Metering of our water consumption”.

The second speaker was Dr. Alvis AU YEUNG (Electronics Engineer, SCL, ITC) and his topic was “Latest development of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC)”.

The third speaker was Dr. Oliver Chan (Biomedical Engineer, Hospital Authority) and his presentation entitled “Importance of Medical Device Calibration”.

After break, the fourth speakers were Mr. Leung Wa Chi (Chief Technical Officer) and Ms. Kwok Hei Mui, Amanda (Principal Technical Officer, Civil Engineering and Development Department) and their topic named “Calibration of Construction Materials Testing Equipment”.

The fifth speaker was Dr. Jasmine Lau (Chemist, Government Laboratory) and her presentation title was “Importance of Chemical Metrology in Daily Life”. 

The sixth speaker was Mr. Andrew AU (Electronics Engineer, SCL, ITC) and his topic presented was “Does Sound Quality matter in our daily lives?”

The last speaker was Mr. George TANG (Electrical and Mechanical Engineer, SCL, ITC) and his topic entitled “Coordinate Measurement in our daily lives”.

Advanced Class for I Ching (易經高班) – Lecture 2

Minda and I joined Prof. Peng’s (彭泓基教授) advanced class for I Ching (易經高班) and the course has six lectures and performed biweekly. The Lecture 2 was held on 21^st Oct 2023. Since we had attended ANQ Congress 2023 in Vietnam, we joined online course and summarized the key concepts for sharing. 

Before the course, we waited the zoom online class setting.

In the beginning, Prof. Peng reviewed some I Ching fundamental concepts. He said Ten Wings (十翼) by Confucius (孔子) were very important and would discuss more in future.

He firstly discussed the crisis thinking of I Tao (易道) and solution program.

Then Prof. Peng used “坤 (Kun)” hexagram to explain how to handle crisis.

After that Prof. Peng stated details of four difficult hexagrams in the I Ching (Book of Changes) including "Zhe Shui Trapped" (澤水困), "Shui Lei Tun" (水雷屯), "Shui Shan Jian" (水山蹇) and "Kan Wei Shui" (坎為水).

Finally, he concluded I Ching’s hexagrams needed observation and then getting their meaning (觀象取義).

We all were happy for learning four difficult hexagrams in this morning.
