Visit to HKPMAC for starting Students' Capstone Project

On 4 Sep, I lead my three COMP students and invited my friend Mr. Matthew Tsui (Managing Director, App2One Limited) to visit Hong Kong Precious Metals Assay Centre (HKPMAC) under Hong Kong Gold Exchange (HKGX) for starting students’ Capstone Project entitled “Development of Laboratory Information System (LIMS) for operation performance enhancement”.

Firstly, Dr. Kathy Fu (Lab Manager, HKPMAC) explained the background and normal operation flow to students.

Inside the laboratory, different tests related to gold were introduced.

After that Kathy briefed the existing daily operation data input and extraction for reporting.

Finally, Mr. Brian Fung (CEO, HKGX) joined us. I presented the invitation letter of industrial advisor to Brian and Kathy and then we took a group photo.

Afterwards, Kathy led everyone to visit the Hong Kong Gold Exchange and conducted a simulated exchange process. I selfie with Matthew.

The participants simulated the old practice of gold exchange.

They had process agenda.

Lastly, we took a photo for memory.

After the visit, Matthew and I went to PolyU to have lunch with Dr. Rocky Lam. I invited them to give guest lecture in my e-Business class. During the lunch, we also meet Prof. Allen AU and took a photo together.

Visit to Hong Kong Precious Metals Assay Centre for HKSQ Corporate Member

I was honor to be steering committee member of Hong Kong Precious Metals Assay Centre (HKPMAC) under Hong Kong Gold Exchange (HKGX) (previously under The Chinese Gold & Silver Exchange Society (CGSE)) since 2015. Based on HKPMAC high quality service to gold community in Hong Kong and Macau, HKPMAC was nominated to be HKSQ Corporate member. Our chairman (Dr. Jane Wong) and vice-chairman (Ms. Angela Wong) presented the corporate membership plate to Mr. Brian Fung (CEO, HKGX) and Dr. Kathy Fu (Lab Manager, HKPMAC) on 22^nd May 2025. 

When I arrived the Hong Kong Gold Exchange early, I took a photo for showing the location.

In the office, Dr. Jane Wong (Chairman, HKSQ) introduced HKSQ vision, mission and services especially student project competition and World Summit for Chinese Quality to Mr. Brian Fung (CEO, HKGX).

Then Dr. Jane Wong presented the plate to Mr. Brian Fung.

After that Mr. Brian Fung led us to visit the Hong Kong Gold Exchange. A large area with lots of old-fashioned telephones. Brian said that in the past (supposedly the 70s) it was so crowded that every business had two phones for pricing and ordering. 

And then I selfie a group photo.

Another group photo was taken by HKGX staff.

Finally, we visited the laboratory. The security level is very high.

Dr. Kathy Fu explained their services and testing methods.

Visit Hong Kong Precious Metals Assay Centre for COMP Students’ Capstone Project

 Hong Kong Precious Metals Assay Centre (HKPMAC) is an independent testing laboratory that established in 2010 and solely-owned by The Chinese Gold & Silver Exchange Society (CGSE). From January 1, 2025, HKGX inherits the legacy of the Chinese Gold & Silver Exchange Society, marking the continuation of Hong Kong’s only physical trading venue for gold and silver. I visited HKPMAC again on 12^th Mar 2025 and aimed to discuss some industrial projects for PolyU COMP Students’ (including AI and Enterprise Information System) Capstone project. Dr. Kathy Fu (Lab Manager, HKPMAC) and I took a photo in the entry of the laboratory. It has high security measures because of gold samples.

Then Mr. Brian Fung (CEO, HKGX) presented the re-appointment letter to HKPMAC Steering Committee upto Dec 2027. I had already served HKPMAC for ten years.

I was honor to service as member of the Hong Kong Precious Metals Assay Centre (HKPMAC) Steering Committee since 2015. The Steering Committee Meeting 2024 and lunch was held on 15^th Nov 2024. We took a group photo for memory.

The Hong Kong Precious Metals Assay Centre Steering Committee Meeting 2023

After 3 years Covid period and online meeting, I was honor to be invited for attending the Hong Kong Precious Metals Assay Centre (HKPMAC) Steering Committee meeting 2023 that is face-to-face meeting, as well as, lunch on 2^nd Nov 2023.

Kathy Fu(HKPMAC Lab Manager) reported the status of accredition in the past year. We had discussed the new version of ISO standard and followup actions to HOKLAS.

 

After the meeting, we had a lunch together and I learn many knowledge from gold market and its relationship with interest rate.

The Hong Kong Precious Metals Assay Centre Steering Committee Meeting 2022

 I was honor to be invited again as member of Hong Kong Precious Metals Assay Centre (HKPMAC) Steering Committee in this year. I served HKPMAC to give opinions on Quality Assurance in Laboratory under "Hong Kong Laboratory Accreditation Scheme" since 2015.  HKPMAC is an independent testing laboratory that established in 2010 by The Chinese Gold & Silver Exchange Society (CGSE). This is the third year we had zoom meeting under the Covid pandemic period.

The HKPMAC Steering Committee member list was found in CGSE website under ‘Corporate Structure’.

Kathy Fu(HKPMAC Lab Manager) reported the status of accredition in the past year and Mr Brian Fung (CGSE-CEO) gave comments. We had also discussed the new development of the centre such as new version of ISO standard and inhouse calibration for equipment, etc. I captured a group photo at the end of meeting.

Remark: I met Dr. Haywood Cheung (President, The Chinese Gold & Silver Exchange Society) last night for the 6^th & 7^th CityU Distinguished Alumni Award Presentation Ceremony. Moreover, Dr. Haywood Cheung is the 5th Distinguished Alumni Awardee in 2018.

I was honor to be member of Hong Kong Precious Metals Assay Centre (HKPMAC) Steering Committee to give opinion on Quality Assurance in Laboratory under "Hong Kong Laboratory Accreditation Scheme" since 2015.  HKPMAC is an independent testing laboratory that established in 2010 by The Chinese Gold & Silver Exchange Society (CGSE). In Covid pandemic period, I still selected to perform the meeting online.

Kathy Fu(HKPMAC Lab Manager) reported the status and Mr Brian Fung (CGSE-CEO) gave comments. We had also discussed the technical change such as new version of ISO standard.  We found that the retention of new generation was very difficult.

The Hong Kong Precious Metals Assay Centre Steering Committee Meeting 2020

I was honor to be member of Hong Kong Precious Metals Assay Centre (HKPMAC) Steering Committee to give opinion on Quality Assurance in Laboratory since 2015.  HKPMAC is an independent testing laboratory that established in 2010 by The Chinese Gold & Silver Exchange Society (CGSE).  In order to tie in with the internationalized standards and requirements of precious metal industry, HKPMAC was set up and obtained the qualification of accredited laboratory under "Hong Kong Laboratory Accreditation Scheme" of the Hong Kong Accreditation Service.

The 2nd Hong Kong Precious Metals Assay Centre Steering Committee Meeting

I was honor to be invited by Mr. Brian Fung (CEO, The Chinese Gold & Silver Exchange Society) to be member of Hong Kong Precious Metals Assay Centre (HKPMAC) Steering Committee to give opinion on Quality Assurance in Laboratory.  HKPMAC is an independent testing laboratory that established in 2010 by The Chinese Gold & Silver Exchange Society (CGSE).  In order to tie in with the internationalized standards and requirements of precious metal industry, HKPMAC was set up and obtained the qualification of accredited laboratory under "Hong Kong Laboratory Accreditation Scheme" of the Hong Kong Accreditation Service. Recently, new standard version of ISO/IEC 17025:2017 would be implemented in Hong Kong Laboratory, HKPMAC had prepared for new standard accreditation.  In the beginning, we took a photo for memory.

Dr. Vicki Fong and I received the CGSE souvenir which is the traditional hand weighing scale.

Very interested and I tried to weight HKSQ pin.

At the end, we took a group photo for memory after the 2^nd Steering Committee meeting.
