Advanced Class IV for I Ching (易經高班IV)–Lecture 3

Minda and I attended Prof. Pang’s (彭泓基教授) advanced class IV for I Ching (易經高班 IV) (6A class) the 3^rd lecture which was held on 30^th Nov 2024. We had breakfast in tea houses (茶餐廳) near the venue. 

In the beginning, Prof. Pang discussed I Ching and Buddhism (易經與佛教). He said Taoism focused on Heaven (天) and nourishing of life in concept, where Confucianism focused on people relation (人). However, Buddhism was most details on Self-cultivation.

Then he briefed the original of Buddhism and its philosophy. 

Many classmates attended the lecture onsite. 

Gautama Buddha, founder of Buddhism was introduced. Buddha concluded that “Life is Bitter” (人生是苦).

The foundation of Buddhism theory on Four Noble Truths (四諦: 苦、集、滅、道). Prof. Pang used management terms to explain four noble truths as follows: 1. Identify the problem; 2. Understand the problem; 3. Finding the solution; and 4. Taking Actions.

After that Prof. Pang said external condition affected our state of mind. However, our mood can also change the external condition feeling. 

Then he briefed the twelve Links of Dependent Origination (十二因緣) that is similar to 12 stages of life in Bazi (八字的十二長生). It is a life cycle like Qian Gua (乾卦) and Kun Gua (坤卦).

And then he mentioned Karma (業報) and Reincarnation (輪迴).

Finally, Prof. Pang said Three Dharma Seals (三法印: 諸行無常，諸法無我，寂靜涅槃) that is judgment criteria or principles to evaluation your method.

Lastly, Prof. Pang showed the book named “靈棋經” that is ancient Chinese divination book. We would use it in the lecture 6. 

After the lecture, all classmates had lunch with Prof. Pang.
