HKSQ Quality Month Seminar - “Subtractive Quality Assurance 減法質量–Mitsubishi Case”

Hong Kong Society for Quality (HKSQ) and TQM Consultants Co. Ltd.  coorganized the World Quality Month Seminar named “Subtractive Quality Assurance 減法質量 –Mitsubishi Case” on 29^th Nov 2024. We took a group photo with onsite participants.

In the beginning, Dr. Aaron Tong introduced his method named“Subtractive Quality Assurance (減法質量)”. He started to present this topic since he awarded China Outstanding Quality Professional (中國傑出質量人) in 2017.

Recently, he also won the HKIE MIS Industry Award in 2023 and HKIE Innovation Merit in 2024. 

His key concepts were reduced among Time, Quality problem and Cost at the same time.

The comparison of traditional +ve QA and his new approach -ve QA were discussed.

After that he shared six key tools named “Effect & Cause analysis”, “Fast Feedback, Fast Implement”, “HALT & HASS”, “Formation of Cross Corporation & Function Team”, “Supplier Management to be right rather than excellence” and “Optimize Product Design”

Finally, Dr. Tong shared secrets of employing key tools such as single-level bill of material (BOM). A single-level BOM represents one level of an assembly and does not include any lower-level sub-assemblies.

The other secret was failure map that identify the failure component in different location of the product. Dr. John Snow was the first person who used failure mapping to identify the source of a cholera outbreak in London in 1854.

Lastly, he achieved very good results after 6 months implementation.

At the end, we had dinner together.
