Ritual and Music Education as well as Chinese and Western Culture(禮樂教化與中西文化)

I Ching classmates attended Prof. Peng’s (彭泓基教授) talk and music performance named “Ritual and Music Education as well as Chinese and Western Culture(禮樂教化與中西文化)” on 29^th Jun 2023. We took a group photo during the break for memory.

Before the talk, Mr. Wong (Vice Chairman, Hong Kong Taoist Association - 香港道教聯合會副主席黃成益) presented appreciation certificates to all guest performers.

In the beginning, Prof. Peng briefed the definition of Culture that is inheritance of life wisdom. He also explained that Wisdom is “Understanding all things’ phenomena and principles”. Then he mentioned what is Tao (道).

Then he explained the culture different between Chinese and Western. And then he explained three key philosophies that Confucianism (儒家) for present and effort, Taoism (道家) for health and nature, and Buddhism (佛家) for heart and after life.

Prof. Peng introduced the Ritual (禮) from Confucianism in China that included its culture, politic, history and traditional characteristics.

After that he explained the Confucianism view of Ritual and Music that is political tools, beauty and good combination, it is the last lesson for gentleman (君子). He also explained what is sound and music. The beauty of guqin (古琴) and vertical bamboo flute (洞簫) are introduced.

Finally, he mentioned real masters characteristics (高人) like Ritual and Music to educate public.

The part B music performance started after the break. Prof. Peng introduced performers.

And then we enjoyed the beautiful Chinese music.

Prof. Peng performed Chinese lute (琵琶).

Prof. Peng also performed digital Saxophone (數碼色士風).

Finally, Kuan’s family with Prof. Peng and his senior classmate to perform a original music named “Looking at the sea (望海)” that related to Ganga (印度恒河).

Lastly, Mr. Wong (Vice Chairman, Hong Kong Taoist Association) gave final remarks and he together with performers thanked to all audience.

Before go to the venue, we had dinner in Thailand style grill restaurant.

We enjoyed foods but it is little bit spicy.

Some decoration for HKSAR establishment day on 1^st July are observed.

We enjoyed a happy music night.

FHKI the 722nd General Committee Meeting

I was honor as an observer to attend the 722^nd General Committee Meeting of FHKI on 27^th Jun 2023. I took a photo in the entry for memory. It is almost two years without visit FHKI during Covid-19 pandemic.

Today meeting, Fire Services Department (FSD) was invited to introduce Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to committee members.

Every participant has AED souvenir. I also asked any maintenance need for AED. The representative said it had self-diagnostic and no need to maintenance upto 5 years.

Intermediate Class for I Ching (易經中班) – Lecture 4

Prof. Peng’s (彭泓基教授) Intermediate class for I Ching (易經中班) Lecture 4 was held on 24^th Jun 2023. The course has six lectures from 3^rd Jun to 15^th Jul 2023. I would like to summarize some key points of the lecture below. His first topic named “Looking at Team Spirit from the Management Wisdom of I Ching”.

Firstly, Prof. Peng briefed Maslow hierarchy of needs and added more details such as “Need to Avoid Pain & Experience Pleasure”, “Need to Contribution”, “Need for Understanding”, “Need for Beauty” and “Transcending the Self”.

Then he discussed the individual and team. In Chinese, company is like family.

And then he explained the position in the right location of Hexagram / Gua (卦) that different position has different role in the organization.

After that Prof. Peng mentioned three levels of organization structure and they were basic, middle and top level. Different level staff considered different values. He concluded the characteristics of human organization including changing level, role & responsibility, as well as, Humanism (情), Rationality (理) and Rules (法).

The second topic is Family Hexagram (家人卦) and he explained harmony enhancing the competitive power.

Family Hexagram (家人卦) that upper is Xun Gua (巽卦) and lower is Li Gua (離卦). Look like wind blow the fire.

Zhongyong (中庸) is the key for management that close to Tao (道) / nature (自然).

And then he explained the level of each Yao (爻) meaning on Family Hexagram (家人卦).

Like previous lecture, he also showed the different change of Family Hexagram (家人卦) to other Gua (卦).

Finally, Prof. Peng briefed “Till Philosophy (止學) and I Ching Investment”.

He used Qian and Kun Gua (乾坤卦) as life cycle for explaining stock market change.

He used wave theory to compare layman investors and professional investors.

Lastly, Prof. Peng combined different Chinese philosophies and life cycle from Qian Gua (乾卦).

After the lecture, we had lunch together.

HKSQ Webinar on: Boosting your data analysis power with Python

HKSQ organized webinar named “Boosting your data analysis power with Python” on 23^rd Jun 2023. In today's data-driven world, the ability to use Python for data analysis is increasingly important for quality practitioners. In the beginning, Dr. Jane Wong (Chairman, HKSQ) introduced the guest speaker Mr. Ray Chen. He is six sigma black belt and quality expert as well as member of HKSQ & ASQ. (Remark: He is in Canada for this webinar.)

In the beginning, Mr. Ray Chen briefed today’s talk contents including Python introduction, data analysis in quality and demonstration of python. Python is a programming language created by Guido von Rossum and first released in 1991. It is very popular because of high level language (like human) and open source (free of charge).

Then he introduced different software for data analysis including NumPy, Pandas, Matplotlib, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow and PyTorch, … etc.

Some common integrated development environments (IDE) are briefed such as PyCharm, Jupyter, Spyder, Anaconda, Google Colab, … etc.

Where Google Colab is cloud-based and free access to GPUs. It is very suitable for using python and machine learning.

After that he introduced correlation and regression application in the different industries for quality improvement.

Finally, Mr. Ray Chen demonstrated the application using Python under Google Colab.

During Q&A, I asked what is benefit to use Python compared with statistical packages (e.g. SPSS and Minitab)? He said that Python is free and flexible to design different application. Statistical package is expensive annual fee. Moreover, Python community could help if you have technical problem.

ESG Webinar – AI Leadership

The Executive Study Group (ESG) webinar named “AI Leadership – How to secure your business and jobs against Ai disruption” was held by Asia Pacific Institute for Strategy Limited (APIFS) on 23^rd Jun 2023. In the beginning, Dr. Mark Lee introduced the history and goal of Asia Pacific Institute for Strategy Limited (APIFS). Then he introduced today’s content including generative AI for business, global job market, positioning between humans and machines, AI partnership and strategic partnership.

Firstly, Dr. Mark Lee briefed an example employed generative AI for business through complaint management.

Then Dr. Lee polled about how much business tasks for clerk to be replaced by AI. Most of participants voted 60% to 79% and 40% to 59%.

And then Dr. Lee discussed about global job market such as IBM paused hiring plan to replace 7800 jobs with AI! Near 60% people shared their 30% workload by AI.

He quoted junior lawyer as example that they might missing the technical mastery training and accumulating through their career path that might affect their other skill in the future.

After that Dr. Lee briefed those human strengths included creativity, improvisation and dexterity; machine strengths included speed, accuracy and repetition. He then asked ChatGPT if two firms use the same AI to generate their proposals to bid a tender that who would be the winner? And then he polled if human as differentiator. Most of participants are agreed.

Finally, he discussed how to reposition between human only activity and machine only activity. For ambassadors, he quoted Stitch Fix for personal shopping.

Koko for trainer and also “My AI Lover” that made people addicted.

He also mentioned generative design using by creative directors. and made a polling that most people believed industries would apply generative design in 3 years.

For explainers, many new jobs were created such as algorithm forensics analyst, transparency analyst, explainability strategist, etc. For process engineers, augmented-reality-enabled instructions could be visually projected on top of workspace.

Lastly, guardians were the new job to ensure the proper use of AI such as AI safety engineers, unintended consequence analysis, ethics compliance manager, etc.
