Manufacturing, Industrial & Systems (MIS) Division organized Annual
Conference and Gala Dinner on 11th Apr 2025. The theme of MIS annual
conference is “Empowering New Industrialization: The Future is Engineered!”. In
the beginning, I met Dr. Augustine Chow (CityU EngD Society Advisor) and took a
photo with Dr. YC Chau together.
Then we met the MIS chairman and took a group photo.

Sit. Congratulated Dr. Sheron Sit achieved PolyU EngD degree!
I met Dr. HL Yiu (my old boss in HKSTP) and Dr. Wong
Yiu Man (Past Chairman, Logistics & Transportation Division, HKIE).
Very long time no see Dr. Daniel Lau who is guest
speaker and we knew each other in CityU EPA centre.
Starting the conference, Ir Dr Eric Liu (Immediate
Past Chairman of MIS, HKIE) gave a welcome speech.
And then all guests and speakers took a group photo.

The first speaker was Dr. Benny Drescher (CTO, HK Industrial
AI and Robotic Centre; Director, Technology AI, INC Innovation Centre) and his
topic entitled “Manufacturing GPT and AI Agents: Industry Benefits and Use
Cases”. In the beginning, he stated AI for efficiency.
Then he demonstration how GenAI (Google Gemini)
identified and classified the defect in Textile.
And then he introduced different type of AI and the
last one is Generative AI using Large, General-purpose Language Models. Benny
said the key different between traditional AI technologies and Generative AI is
that GenAI has the ability to create new content.
After that Benny mentioned Manufacturing GPT using Large
Multimodal Model (LMM) that can understand and generate content across various
data types to support all facets of manufacturing. He also introduced Retrieval-Augmented
Generation model to us.
Finally, he shared some observation before and after
using GenAI in manufacturing processes.
Ms. Anne Loos (Executive Director, INC) was the second
speaker and her topic named “The AI Maturity Journey”.
Firstly, she demonstrated her AI generated her speech
in Chinese eventhough she doesn’t know Chinese.
After that she shared some lessons learned from different AI projects such as Data Quality & Governance and Ethical & Social Alignment.
Anne also demonstrated 4 phases to successful AI use case implementation from strategy level to AI use case level.
Lastly, she discussed AI Readiness Assessment for 0 level to 4 level.
After the first session finished, Dr. Vincent Fung
chaired the forum for discussion.
Dr. HL Yiu also participated their discussion.
Then Dr. John Chow presented souvenirs to all speakers
first.
The third speaker was Mr. Tiejun Liu (Director,
Honeycomb Aerospace Technologies Co. Ltd.) and his presentation entitled “Digital
low-altitude intelligent service system construction plan and practice” (數字低空智能服務體系建設方案與實踐).
Firstly, Mr. Liu briefed the development history of low-altitude
economy policy.
And then he introduced the low- intelligent service
system that included two platforms, one center and N applications.
After that he mentioned the core facilities and technologies
including Drones. ICT, etc.
Lastly, Mr. Liu demonstrated different application practices
to us.
Dr. Daniel Lau was the last speaker and his presentation
was “In Hong Kong for Global” Is HK Ready?. He firstly briefed Low Altitude Economy
(LAE) that enabling by Big Multi-data driven, new digital twin, and different
technologies.
Then he pointed out the three key concepts and they
were P (Precision on Position), N (Beidou Compatible Navigation) and T (Synchronized
Time “Sky-Ground”.
Daniel said the major challenges of developing LAE in
Hong Kong is ‘HK still chasing Mainland digital advanced roadmaps and seemingly
far lagging behind. And then he proposed resilient PNT service.
After that he introduced Beidou Compatible Navigation
application through the research and development centre.
Lastly, he concluded that full value chain & supply
chain with using intelligent infrastructure of GNSS/BDS.
The discussion forum performed at the end. Since I had
lecture on that night, I missed the annual dinner.
Dr. Jane Wong (Chairman, HKSQ) and Ms. Angela Wong
(Vice chairman, HKSQ) joined the dinner and met our speakers.
