Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE)
Manufacturing, Industrial & Systems (MIS) Division organized Annual Symposium
on 10th Apr 2026. The theme of MIS annual symposium is “Co-creation-Integration-Recognition:
New Opportunities for Manufacturing & Industrial Engineers in the Era of
Embodied Intelligence”. Before the start of symposium, we took a group photos
for memory.

Raymond Shan, Dr. Vincent Fung, Ir Alice Chow, Dr. Jane Wong, Prof. Xiaowen Fu,
Prof. Gary Tsui, Ir John Chow, Dr. Changwei Weng, Mr. Otto Lee and Prof.
Kenneth Pak)
I met many old friends during the symposium and took some
photos for memory as below. Included Dr. YC Chau.
I also took a photo with Ir CS Lam and his topic about
AI governance which was very related to one of my lectures named AI Ethics.
I selfie with Dr. YC Chau, Dr. Luk Chi Fai and Dr.
Eric Liu.
I also selfie with Ir Alice Chow who is the first
chairlady of HKIE!
Then I introduced our first chairlady of HKSQ to Ir
Alice Chow and then selfie together with Ir Raymond Shan and Ir John Chow.
Prof. Carman Lee and Ir Lewis Choi arrived and we selfie
together.
In the beginning, Ir Raymond Shan (Chairman, HKIE-MIS
division) gave opening speech. He mentioned the transformation from i4.0 to AI+
G-Mfg Migration Strategy.
And then he introduced Smart Data Analytic using AI
including data query agent, data cleansing agent and data analysis agent.
Finally, Ir. Raymond Shan introduced the body of
knowledge of AI+ G-Mfg that designed for manufacturing engineers and technologists
to embrace future manufacturing.
Prof. Prof. Xiaowen Fu (Head of ISE Dept) gave welcome
speech and shared how ISE department to link up industry and academic for their
students’ engineering practices.
Ir Alice Chow (Chairlady of HKIE) gave welcome speech
and she had very support MIS division.
She briefed HKIE missions and support to upgrade engineering
in AI era.
Then group photo for all HKIE MIS organizer committee
members and guests was taken.
Mr. Keith Kwok (Exco member, HKSQ) arrived and we took
a photo together.
The first speaker was Dr. Steve Chuang (Founder &
CEO, Provista & former chairman, FHKI) and his topic named “AI in
Manufacturing”. Firstly, he introduced Provista group which headquartered in HK
and hubs in Dongguan, China and Phillipines. They provide smart, safe and
sustainable solutions.
Then he mentioned the role as engineers whose are foundation
of industries, evolve with technology transformation. The current AI trends
included government and industrial giants placing gigantic investments in AI.
And then he mentioned two dimensions and they are AI Infrastructure and AI
Application.
After sharing different cases, he discussed new industrialization
which is end-to-end supply chain and consider as whole ecosystem for AI
infrastructure and application.
The second speaker was Ir CS Lam (Deputy Convenor of
HKIE AI Working Group) and his topic entitled “AI Governance”. He firstly introduced
what is AI and why AI important.
Then Ir CS Lam briefed AI Governance in “Legal
frameworks / Policies / Practices / Tools…” as well as “Responsibility/Ethical,
Safe use of AI”. He also introduced Ethical AI Framework from Digital Policy
Office and Guidance on the Ethical Development and Use of AI from Office of the
Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data.
Finally, he stated ethical AI principles and key
principles of AI governance, as well as, concluded that AI governance is the
system of rules and controls and engineering profession can use AI but aware
its risks and defining AI policies for monitoring.
Ir John Chow presented souvenirs to two guest speakers
and took a photo.
After that Dr. Vincent Fung chaired the panel
discussion.
During the break, I also took some photos with HKIE friends.
I selfie with Dr. Steve Chuang and we are both member of CityU Eminent Society.
I met two friends in Science Park. Ir Dixon Pang
(Manager, Programme Management, Startup Ecosystem, HKSTP) and Ir Bob Siu
(Manager, Safety, Health & Environment, HKSTP). Bob is followed my previous
subordinary Mr. Sunny Lai.
I met my old friend Dr. MY Wong again.
HKIE MIS members chatted during the tea break.
I took a photo with Prof. Louis Lock and Dr. SL Mak
during tea break.
Before the second part start, I selfie with Dr. Vincent
Fung, Dr. YC Chau and Dr. Luk Chi Fai.
The third speaker was Prof. Louis Lock and his
presentation topic was “Professional Engineer Mutual Recognition between The
HKIE Manufacturing, Industrial & System Discipline and Guangdong Mechanical
Engineering Society”. Firstly, he introduced the history started from Chian
Instrument and Control Society since 2005.
Until 2025, HKIE arranged promotion seminar and invited
expert from China to explain the Mutual Recognition requirement of professional
title. Finally, Prof. Lock showed the results of successful members achieved
professional title.
The fourth speaker was Dr. Changwei Weng (Head of
Research Group, Foundational Technologies, Siemens) and his topic was “MioVerse:
A programmable 3D digital twin environment connecting Xcelerator partners
seamlessly”. Firstly, he introduced three platforms including IT/OT
Integration, AI Algorithms Integration and 3D Environment for AI Validation.
Then he introduced integration of industrial AI in
Real and Virtual Worlds using programmable Digital Twins. And then he
demonstrated how MioVerse immersive data visualization for production line
design through virtual AI validation.
The last speaker was Mr. Otto Lee (Head, HKCERT) and
his presentation entitled “Cyber Security for Future Manufacturing”. In the beginning,
he introduced HKCERT and briefed the latest cybersecurity trends in Hong Kong.
In 2025, security incidents increased 27%!
After that he mentioned the top 1 of 5 key cybersecurity
risks is “AI-Driven Attacks and Agentic AI Risks”. For example, OpenClaw is rapid
developed Agentic AI.
Finally, Mr. Otto Lee introduced CIA triad as goals of
cybersecurity where C stands for Confidentiality, I is Integrity and A as
Availability.
After the speeches, Ir John Chow presented souvenirs
to all guest speakers.
And then Prof. Kenneth Pak (Professor, HKMU) chaired
the Panel discussion.
At the end, Ir John Chow gave closing speech. He used “MISD”
covered today’s topics.
Before we left, I met Dr. Howard H.H. Cheung (HKU) and
Dr. Luk Chi Fai. It is pity that I need to in-charge the HKSQ seminar tonight,
