Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) Manufacturing,
Industrial & Systems (MIS) Division organized Annual Conference and Gala
Dinner on 13th Oct 2022. I was honor to be invited by Dr. Sammy Wan
to attend both events. Before the conference start, I took a photo with many friends
for memory.

Then I met Ir Dr. HL Yiu who is the first speaker
in the conference.

And then I met InnoTec team and Adam graduated from
CityU. I introduced CityU HK Tech 300 scheme and it is suitable for their
innovation project application.

In the beginning, Ir Aaron K M BOK (President, HKIE) gave welcoming speech and introduced HKIE development direction especially on reindustrialization and Innopreneur Hub. Lastly, he mentioned the theme “PROUD TO BE ENGINEERS” in the year.
Then Ms. Lillian Cheong, JP (Under Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, HKSAR) gave guest keynote speech. She introduced different government I&T policy and funding support.
After that Ir Aaron Bok and Ir Norman Chan presented HKIE souvenir to Ms. Lillian Cheong.

Ir Dr. H.L. Yiu (Head of Re-Industrialisation,
HKSTP) was the first speaker and his topic entitled “Innofacturing Tomorrow”. Firstly,
he said we need to use brain power in the intelligent era and reviewed the achievement
of HKSTP in the past 20 years.
And the Dr. Yiu mentioned the transformation
from IE1.0 to Innopark. It aims to powering industries with innovation and
technology for a digital future. He
briefed the change of industry nature in the IE2.0 since 2015 and then further transferred
to Innopark in 2021. Advanced
Manufacturing Centre (AMC) at TKO Innopark was also introduced.
Dr. Yiu discussed the proshop in AMC that aimed
to full the gap 2 for manufacturing innovation from concept validation to full
production based on manufacturing readiness levels.
Finally, he introduced Microelectronics Centre
(MEC) that separated into three areas and they were Chips Design, Chips Application
and Chips Market. MEC focused on
manufacturing and process to overcome the manufacturing challenges based on
reliability, quality and cost. Lastly, he briefed the Innopark ecosystem to
innovate, design and make in Hong Kong.
The second speaker was Ir Dr. Eric Liu (Deputy
Executive Director, VTC) and his topic named “Skilling for the Future –
Nurturing Tech-savvy Talents for Reindustrialisation”. Firstly, Dr. Eric Liu briefed the history of the
development on Vocational and Professional Education and Training (VPET) in
Hong Kong since 2014.
After that he stated different countries VPET
policy especially in mainland China. The national implementation programme of
VPET in 2019 was mentioned.
Finally, Dr. Liu introduced the articulation
pathway under VTC and Hong Kong Qualification Framework, as well as, new
infrastructures such as International Culinary Institute, Aviation and Maritime
Education Centre, etc.
Mr. Raymond Shan (General Manager, HKPC) was the
third speaker and his presentation title was “Reindustrialisation enabled by
Industry 4.0”. In the beginning, Mr.
Shan briefed global initiation in Industry 4.0 and three major trends including
ICT, Technology and Market.
Then he briefed HKPC cooperation with Fraunhofer
IPT for promoting i4.0 and he said the key words is “real time data optimalization”.
And then he mentioned the future qualification and skill to fit industry 4.0.
Lastly, he introduced principles of industry 4.0
including sensors, data, model and digital shadow.
The fourth speaker was Mr. Edmond Yau (Founder,
Koln 3D Technology (Medical) Ltd) and
his topic named “Custom-made Medical Device for Precision Surgery Applications”.
Mr. Yau firstly stated their vision “To heal with technology, for the benefit
of the body, spirit and society” and briefed Koln 3D development history.
The overall concept between doctor and engineer
collaboration to provide one-stop medical solutions was described from imaging,
surgical planning, design, production, pre-operation trial and then to surgery.
After that Mr. Yau introduced their solutions
and products should meet the requirements such as FDA 510K & 520B, local
regulations, ISO 10993, ISO 13485, etc. And some application cases were demonstrated.
Lastly, he planned auto post-processing under reindustsrialisation
for 3D printing medical application tools so as to enhance the efficiency.
Mr. Adrian Wong (R&D Director of Nanoshields)
was the fifth speaker and his topic entitled “Hong Kong Position in the
logistic supply chain and RND aspect”. Firstly,
he introduced King’s Flair business coverage from Idea Generation to Industrial
Design, Material Sourcing, QC/PMCC, Logistics and Marketing, as well as, Mainland
China Retail.
And then Mr. Wong briefed the IP in his company’s
product using nano material that had functions for bacteria killing and filtering
of bacteria, virus and particle. The nano material was manufactured in Hong Kong
and other parts manufactured in mainland China.
The last speaker was Mr. Albert Lok (Managing
director of Glory-I Prime Development Ltd) and his presentation named “Intelligent
Manufacturing enhance the value-added industry”. Firstly, he introduced his
company brand named “Transform – Healthy Drinking Water”.
Finally, Mr. Lok introduced his factory employed
GMP, ISO 2200 and HACCP as well as achieving UN 4 of SDGs certificates. He also
mentioned his three key products named pH 9 alkaline water, NMN water (joking as
No Money No Water) and Disney OEM bottom water.
After the conference, I joined the Gala Dinner
and also meet many old friends. We took some photos for memory.

During Gala Dinner, Dr. Lo announced the MIS
Industry Award 2022 and there are three categories including Innovation Award,
Reindustrialisation Award and Smart Manufacturing Award.
Lastly, all MIS committee members and past
chairmen gave a toast to all participants.
