Chinese Traditional Wisdom for the Study of Knowing People (中華智慧知人學)–Lecture 1

Minda and I attended Prof. Pang’s (彭泓基教授) new course named “Chinese Traditional Wisdom for the Study of Knowing People” (中華智慧知人學) on 12^th Apr 2025. After finished all I Ching (易經班), Prof. Pang would teach us how to apply those wisdom to understand people. 

Our HKSQ friend Mr. Ben Tsang also joined this time and we had breakfast together.

In the beginning, Prof. Pang explained why he arranged this course because of promoting the Chinese Traditional Wisdom especially in the art of knowing / understanding people. Our class leader Mr. Kinsen Leung help to voice and video recording and I was the administrator of zoom for online students.

Half class is onsite and the other half is online.

Firstly, Prof. Pang explained the concept of the study of knowing people (知人學) through culture, cultivation, Chinese culture and wisdom.

Then he said there were many information collected to understand people including outlook, name, face, qualification, hobbies, professional, birthday, etc.

And then he reviewed some fundamental of I Ching including Change I (變易), Simple I (簡易) and Unchanged I (不易), as well as, Wave Philosophy (波浪哲學). 

After that Prof. Pang briefed the factors that determine success or failure including family background, personal competence, values, environment, personality, etc.

In addition, he introduced Chinese concept about Heavenly Way (Taoism), Humanity (Confucianism) and Underground (Mohist). 

The summary of Confucianism was demonstrated and explained.

And then many important classic books related to the key concepts were introduced. 

Prof. Pang recommended some reference books to us.

Finally, he introduced his model of Ideal modern talent.

After the class, most classmates joined the lunch together.

I needed to teach in PolyU. Only Minda joined the lunch.
