Gold Peak (GP) is HKSQ corporate member and they
started manufacturing 9-volt dry batteries in a small factory on the outskirts
of Hong Kong over 60 years ago. Since those humble beginnings, they have grown
to become one of the world’s biggest suppliers of portable power. HKSQ arranged
technical visit to GP in Hong Kong Science Park on 25th Apr 2025. We
took a group photo for memory.
Before visit GP, Minda and I had lunch in science park.
After that all participants arrived and we had a rest
in the building 19W.
Then we all waited in the lobby of the building 16W. Ms.
Mandy Ngai led us to go to GP office.

sustainability, social responsibility and future development.
Firstly, he mentioned GP’s quality mission statement
and GQA’s Roles & Responsibilities including VOC Focus, Data Transparency
Leadership, Engagement of People, Process Capability Study, Evidence-based
Decision Making and Sustainable Values.
One of their significant milestones is earning the UL
Zero Waste to Landfill (ZWTL) platinum validation.
For quality, regulatory and product compliance
challenges, Percy shared their Quality 4.0 approach to employ AI for different processes.
After that he shared their advanced quality management
system development strategy and would focus on EFQM model.
Some case studies involved automation and AI detection
applications.
Finally, Percy introduced their laboratory and we
would visit after the discussion.
Dr. Kuok Mak (Assistant Director, Manufacturing
Automation Technology (MAT)) shared the topic “The future of GP Factories: Powered
by Automation & AI”. Firstly, he briefed the GP product evolution. Then he
mentioned MAT mission included reduction of product cost, to eliminate manual
operation and yield loss, as well as, to increase throughput and improve product
quality.
He also quoted Murphy’s law “Anything that can go
wrong, will go wrong” to explaining why GP need automation and AI.
Finally, we saw different products in show room.
Lastly, we went to their reliability laboratory.
Because it was a clean area, we all wore protective shoe covers before
entering.
Mr. Johnny Sung (Senior Quality Manager, Group Quality
Assurance) introduced the laboratory structure and achievements.
Then Percy led us to visit the laboratory and explained
different tests and equipment to us.
After the visit, Dr. Jane Wong (Chairman, HKSQ)
presented HKSQ flag to Dr. Percy Chan.
At the end, we all had GP gifts (GP wireless charging
