Seminar on Shum Yat-fei's Wisdom of Learning in Turbulent Times (岑逸飛亂世易學生活智慧)

Minda and I attended the seminar named “Shum Yat-fei's Wisdom of Learning in Turbulent Times” (岑逸飛亂世易學生活智慧) in HKCEC on 19^th Jul 2026. We arrived early and take a photo for memory. 

There were many books for sale on the reception desk.

Inside the hall, we took a selfie and a lady in right hand side is Mrs. Shum.

Prof. Pang’s (彭泓基教授) arrived and took a photo with Mrs. Shum and guest speakers.

Each participant received a commemorative booklet of Mr. Shum Yat-fei.

I Ching classmate arrived and we took a photo before the seminar. (Including Tony Chan, Michelle, Kinsen Leung, I, Minda, Pauline, Don, Evelyn and 吳偉鴻).

Kinsen and I took a photo with Prof. Chan Wing Wah (陳永華) and Prof. Pang (彭泓基教授).

I also met I Ching classmate 吳國銘 and Henry. 

In the beginning, Mr. Vincent Teng Chuen Cheong (鄧傳鏘) shared Mr. Shum’s lifestyle that practiced extreme simplicity and knew what to do and what to avoid (有所為，有所不為). He pointed out the mutual resonance between Heaven and humanity (天人感應) and the inevitable cycles of historical rise and fall (盛衰興替).

Then Prof. Pang said that understanding the I Ching and the natural cycles of change and separate Dao and Shu (「道」與「術」). He stated that humans possess three dimensions—Logic (Rationality) (理性), Emotion (感性), and Spirituality (靈性). He suggested teaching primary school students the core 100 words of the I Ching (Qian and Kun hexagrams). He criticized Hong Kong’s current mindset for being too Westernized, self-centered, utilitarian, and lacking civic morality.

After that Dr. Liang Jiyong (梁基永) said that we are in the "Fire Period" (火運) and what Buddhism calls the "Era of Dharma Decline" (末法之世). He also mentioned I Ching had two systems and they were Divination (占卜系統) (Used for short-term, specific decision-making) and Fate/Destiny (命理系統) (Used for analyzing long-term life trends).

Finally, Mrs. Shum announced that she had discovered many AI-generated fake videos of Shum Yat-fei circulating on social media. She reminded everyone not to believe or spread the video.

Finally, organizer and guests took a group photo.

Our I Ching classmates took a group photo with Prof. Pang and Mrs. Shum.

I got Mrs. Shum signature of Mr. Shum’s book.

Also Dr. Liang Jiyong signature. Prof. Pang had already signed.

Lastly, we took a group photo with Mrs. Shum’s students.

At the end, our class leader Kinsen booked a restaurant and we had lunch together.
