The 8th World Summit of Chinese Quality–Day 1 (Part A)

The 8th World Summit of Chinese Quality (全球華人品質峰會) was organized by Singapore Quality Institute (SQI) (新加坡质量学院) and pre-World Alliance for Chinese Quality (pre-WACQ - 全球华人品质联盟（筹）) on 21^st Sep 2023. The theme was “People-oriented, Advancing with the Times, Artificial Intelligence and Quality Assurance”「以人为本，与时俱进，人工智能与品质保证」. The summit was held onsite at NTU@One-North Alumni House, Executive Centre. Minda and I represented HKSQ to attend the summit and took a photo in front of the entry. 

We met Mr. GE Tan (Former Chairman, SQI) and Prof. TN Goh.

Then We took a group photo with Ms. Wang Lin (CAQ) and Mr. Johnson Tan Swan San (SQI).

The summit MC was Mr. Jeremy Teln Keng Leong (Executive council member, SQI) and he introduced the program to us during start of the summit.

In the beginning, Dr. Nik Chong Teck Siong (钟德祥) (Chairman of Summit Organizing Committee, SQI) gave welcoming speech and introduced background of the theme.

Mr. Johnson Tan Swan San (陈川昌) (Chairman, SQI) gave welcoming speech to all participants and thanks for all contributors and special thanks to sponsor – Lee Foundation (SGD 8000).

Firstly, Ms. Wang Lin (王琳) (Deputy Secretary General, CAQ; Vice Chairman, pre-WACQ) gave an opening speech. She quoted Chinese old saying that "People who do the great thing must put people first."(济大事者，必以人为本)

Summit keynote speech session I:

The first keynote speaker was Prof. TN Goh (吳桐毅) (新加坡質量協會代表、新加坡國立大學、國際質量研究院院士) and his topic named “DMAIC of the Quality Profession” (质量专业的"DMAIC"). Firstly, Prof. Goh mentioned quality is like vitamin that is essential but cannot accumulate. So that the first interpretation of DMAIC stand for Desirable, Multiplicity, Added-on, Inventory-free and Categorized.

Then Prof. Goh said must of quality professors are not studied quality in the beginning (Degree course) but transferred by other science afterward. So that the traditional DMAIC stand for Deming cycle, Muda elimination, Acceptance sampling plan, ISO standards and Control charts. But the DMAIC problems were observed as Decoupled techniques, Missing theories, Assumption blind, Ignorant of sequence and Computer-dependent.

After that he mentioned the six sigma DMAIC – Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control consolidated all quality tools in systematic way to solve quality problem. But we need a new strategy for innovation-driven today and new DMAIC stand for Digitalization, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things and Cloud Computing.

Finally, Prof. Goh raised that we need to transfer from traditional concept and thinking of quality into high strategic vision through DMAIC – Direction, Methodology, Approach, Information and Customerization. Lastly, he proposed new DMAIC to be Dynamic, Multitasking, Attitude, Innovative and Customer-centric. He concluded that all things are for customers.

At the end, Prof. Goh expected WACQ would be overtaking in corners, far ahead (彎道超車ˎ遙遙領先).

The second keynote speaker was Mr. Liu Yajun (刘亚军) (美的集团武汉制冷设备有限公司品质部部长) and his topic named “Application practice of constructing "4+3+1" intelligent quality management system based on the "Five Intelligences" model” (基于“五智”模型构建“4+3+1”智能质量管理系统运用实践). Firstly, he introduced Midea factories in China.

Then Mr. Liu introduced their "4+3+1" intelligent quality management system based on the "Five Intelligences" model” through different quality platforms and employed AI for automation in the production line in which also connected into customer relationship management system.

Lastly, he showed their milestones from 2004 to 2023 and to achieve the high-quality intelligent factory.

The third speaker was Prof. Chen (林文燦) (國立台中科技大學智慧學院創院長) and his topic entitled “Research on the improvement of Hangju and Coffee artificial intelligence AI baking technology” (杭菊與咖啡人工智慧AI烘培技術提升之研究). Before the speech, Prof. Chen showed a short video for Coffee baking technology.

Then Prof. Chen briefed their study project flamework including AI detection design, AI control design and Taguchi Methods for design of experiments (DoE). 

Finally, Prof. Chen demonstrated the product results that was found the appearance was much better than traditional manual method. So that the product price is much higher. It was similar to Coffee bean baking.

During lunch time, I took photos with SQI and CQI friends for memory.

Summit parallel session I:

Since I had presentation in the parallel session I, I joined this session and summarized all speakers speech below.

The first speaker was Ms. Wang Hua (王華) and her presentation topic named “Excellent Quality Takes the Lead in Execution, Employees Work Together to Make this a Priority” (卓越品质当先执ˎ员工合力此为先). Her speech separated into three parts and they were hardworking (實幹) , responsibility (責任) and breakthrough (突破).

Then Ms. Wang introduced their medical quality safety management workflow and its improvement. After that she mentioned 6W5H methodology (Whichˎ Whatˎ Whoˎ Whenˎ Whereˎ Why and Howˎ How muchˎ How manyˎ How to doˎ However) for quality planning and execution. Finally, she stated employees worked together for precise innovation planning, efficient execution, strong teamwork and resource channel integration so that to achieve breakthrough results.

The second speaker was Mr. Yin-Ku Liu (林銀穀) and his topic named “Implementation of Total Quality Management through the Golden Hand Award in Taichung City: An Empirical Study of Small and Medium-size Enterprises” (台中市金手獎導入全面品質管理之研究-以中小企業為實證). Firstly, he introduced the background of Golden Hand Award.

Then he briefed the requirement of Golden Hand Award including Holistic Management System (25%), Research and Innovation (20%), Sale and Marketing (20%), Human Resource (20%) and Social Responsibility (15%). Lastly, he concluded that Golden Hand Award applied TQM concept award scheme to encourage small and medium enterprises to employ TQM.

The second speaker was Prof. Wen-kuei Chen (陳文魁) and his topic entitled “Two-dimensional Position Tolerances and Process Capability”. In the beginning, he briefed ISO 22514-6:2013 “Statistical methods in process management — Capability and performance — Part 6: Process capability statistics for characteristics following a multivariate normal distribution”. 

Then Prof. Chen stated for geometric properties such as the center of a hole, tolerances are established for the position of the hole center. The product measurement issues involved require intelligent calculations. He demonstrated the calculation using excel for two-dimension Process Capability calculation (Cpk & Ppk) and visualized it by using excel.

The third speaker was Mr. Chen (陳燕坦) and his topic named “TQM2.0: Systematic Transfer of Quality and Value” (TQM2.0: 品質與價值的系統轉移). In the beginning, Mr. Chen pointed out three difficult for value management system including definition, positioning of function and how to establish system. 

Then he briefed the functions of TQM including Quality, Cost, Delivery, Morale and Safety. Based on TQM and value management, Mr. Chen proposed Total Value Management (TVM) 3D model. 

I was the fourth speaker in this session and my topic entitled “Apply ExtenicsGPT to Innovative Prototype of New Products” (應用可拓學GPT於新產品的創新原型). My speech included introduction of Extenics, Extension Innovation Method, ChatGPT, Dall-E and ExtenicsGPT. The logo of ExtenicsGPD was designed by Dall-E.

Then I mentioned the methodology of ExtenicsGPT through 4 steps of extension innovation method (METS) step-by-step. 

After that I demonstrated the Dall-E generated the prototype named “Intelligent temperature control invisible painted color cup” but the effect is not good as expected. 

Lastly, I concluded that ChatGPT and Dall-E are good complementary tools for Extension Innovation Method for new product prototype development. It is believed the improvement of prompt engineering and AI, Dall-E could be enhanced for assisting prototype design visualization. 

The fifth speaker was Mr. Chung (鍾德祥) and his presentation was “How to apply AI to improve the operational efficiency of customer contact centers from ISO18295-1:2017 compliance perspective " (如何應用人工智能從ISO18295-1:2017的合規性角度提高顧客聯絡中心的營運效率). Firstly, Mr. Chung briefed the functions of customer contact center including communication channel, contact distribution and customer service representative assistance.

After that he proposed to combine AI and ISO 18295-1 so as to enhance operation efficiency. The concept of hybrid operation between AI Chatbot and human real time chat was demonstrated. At the end, he encouraged customer contact centers to apply ISO 18295-1 to enhance service efficiency.

The last speaker was Mr. Tu Jianyu (徐建宇) (SQI) and his topic named “Artificial Intelligence and CNC Machining Quality Assurance - Exploring the Value of AI in CNC machining” (人工智能與數控加工品質保證-探索AI在數控加工中的價值). In the beginning, Mr. Tu introduced the numeric control principles and common problems such as material, technique, human mistakes, facility and equipment error, design and environment, etc. 

Finally, Mr. Tu concluded that AI can enhance CNC machining and QA that solving the manpower shortage problem, enhancing efficiency through real time analysis, product innovation and continuous improvement.

At the end of session, two video presentations and they were Ms. Zhai Haochun (翟浩春) and Ms. Du Liuyi (杜柳毅).

Before the Summit keynote speech session II, we had a break and three posters’ authors introduced their studies.

Minda and I enjoy the tea break and then back to the hall for closing session.
