CityU ITME Orientation 2023

Supporting the orientation program for “Bachelor of Engineering in Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering (BEng ITME) 工學士 (智能製造工程學)” in the Department of Systems Engineering (SYE), I joined the program on 4^th Sep 2023. I taught a course of ASDE 2066 “Professional Engineering Practice”. When I arrived the venue and took a photo for memory. 

I took a photo with Dr. YC Chau and Dr. Ken Yau in the lecture room.

I also took a photo with young and new professors in the department.

In the beginning, Prof. C. Y. DANG (Acting Head, ADSE) gave welcome speech to all year 1 students. 

Then Dr. Sherman NGAN (Deputy Major Leader) briefed three key things including, Outcomes Based Teaching and Learning (OBTL), Discovery-enriched Curriculum (DEC) and Academic Honesty.

He said a university is a place of light, liberty and learning that need to do to live a full life in the 21^st century. (Like mountain climbing)

After that Ricky introduced the online safety program in the laboratory. He said students are not allowed to work in SYE Laboratories until they have completed the “Safety Orientation Program”.

And then a representative of Language Centre briefed what service they provided to support students in academic English. 

Finally, Prof. Andy H.F. CHOW (Major Leader) gave an introduction to Major Structure and Requirements of ITME program.  

Prof. Chow briefed the domains knowledge of ITME and also introduced Tiger program “Undergraduate plus Taught Postgraduate Degree Program” for top 10% year 1 students of the College of Engineering and completion of at least 30 credit units in Semester A&B.

After the orientation, department invited all students and staff to have lunch together.

The first class of ADSE 2066 was performed immediately after lunch.  YC and I attended the beginning of the class and introduced our lectures.

Dr. Sherman Ngan briefed the overall structure of the course “Professional Engineering Practice”.

Dr. YC Chau briefed his lectures about professional ethics and industry 4.0.

Finally, I introduced my lectures included Extenics, Extension Innovation Method and Startup Ecosystem.

Students come from Pakistan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan, Mainland and Hong Kong. During the lunch, some students reflected they would like to learn more about AI.
