HKQAA Symposium 2023 – Build the Livable City, Shape a Sustainable Community

After joining HKQAA 30th Anniversary Forum cum Celebration Cocktail Reception on 18^th Oct 2019, most of HKQAA events are performed online. In 2023, HKQAA Symposium performed online with the theme entitled “Build the Livable City, Shape a Sustainable Community” on 25^th Aug 2023. HKSQ is one of supporting organization. After guests opening speech, a photo was taken.

The first keynote speaker was Mr. Ryan Ip (葉文祺) (Vice President and Co-Head of Research of Our Hong Kong Foundation) and his topic entitled “Building a Sustainable Future: Housing Development for a Livable City in the Region (建造可持續發展未來：宜居房屋發展方向)”. Firstly, he briefed government recent housing policy.

Then he said the quantitative of buildings and qualitative of buildings are both important but it shifted to quantitative recently that may cause resource bias inflecting quality.

After that he mentioned to use PropTech including ConTech, Smart Building and Green PropTech so as to enhance the construction speed and living quality.

Finally, Mr. Ryan Ip stated future houses and public facilities would add green element design to improve living quality for citizen.

The second keynote speaker was Ms. Zhou Quan (周荃) (Deputy Chief Engineer of Guangdong Provincial Academy of Building Research) and her topic named “High-quality Green Buildings under the Background of Carbon Peak (碳達峰背景下的高品質綠色建築)”. Firstly, she quoted President Xi Jinping announcement to the world that carbon peak will be in 2030 and carbon neutrality will be in 2060.

And then she explained the calculation of carbon emissions in the field of urban and rural construction from material, implementation, operation to removal.

After that she showed some prediction of energy consumption and carbon emission upto 2035.

Lastly, Ms. Zhou briefed some technical paths for reduction of energy consumption and carbon emission using green construction and MiC. Thus, they would fulfill the requirements of National High-quality Development.

The last keynote speaker was Mr. Ng Wang Tsang, Andy (吳宏增) (Chairman of Hong Kong General Chamber of Social Enterprises) and his presentation topic was “Building Inclusive Communities: The Role of Social Enterprises (構建共融社區：社會企業的角色)”.

Mr. Ng then explained some characteristics of inclusive community such as accessibility, equal opportunities, social cohesion, etc.

And then he said to have a job by disadvantaged social groups are very important. It could maintain their social interactions. Lastly, he mentioned some challenges of social enterprise such as small & fragile, without entirely charity, no clear definition and without government support.
