PolyU EDC Webinar – Evaluating GenAI-integrated Assessments

PolyU Educational Development Centre (EDC) arranged a webinar entitled “Assessment Redesign in the GenAI Era Series: Workshop 2: Evaluating GenAI-integrated Assessments” on 28 Oct 2026. Dr. Dawn Lo and Mr. Leo Chon were facilitator.

In the beginning, Dr. Dawn Lo introduced the learning outcomes including the criteria to evaluate GenAI-integrated assessments and the quality of assessment design.

Then she briefed the guiding principles of designing assessments to achieve trustworthy judgements such as student cannot use GenAI to complete the assessments & passed without learning. Reliable and valid evidence of students’ learning should be collected. Ethical use of GenAI should be promoted.

There are six major approaches of embracing GenAI in assessments and they were multimodal application, learning experience reflection, defending viewpoints, staged process assessment, evaluating AI output, and assessing AI competencies.

Evaluating GenAI-integrated assessments required ensuring learning outcome alignment, high rubric quality, clear AI expectations, process-focused learning, equity, task authenticity, and the promotion of critical AI literacy alongside higher-order thinking.

After that Mr. Leo Chon continued to explain the details criterion 4 to 7. Oral tests or Q&A sessions provided evidence.

Criterion 5 emphasizes equity by assessing students' learning through the tools rather than their financial ability to access premium ones.

Finally, Mr. Leo Chon demonstrated the checklist for evaluating GenAI-integrated assessment. And he summarized some takeaway points from the session that reviewed core principles of assessment design and introduced a GenAI-integrated evaluation checklist in which serves both to guide task design and evaluate assessment quality.
