PolyU Educational Development Centre (EDC) arranged a
seminar named “Future-Proofing Your Career: Thriving in the AI Era” on 11 May
2026 in TU616. I was first time to visit EDC.
I arrived the venue and selfie before the seminar start.
AI is rapidly shaping the way we work, raising both opportunities and
uncertainties for today’s workforce. This seminar aims to explore how
individuals can engage with AI thoughtfully and productively.
In the beginning, MC introduced Dr. Chui Chuen Shun, Alex
(DBA, MSc., LLM FHKICPA) who is an Adjunct Professor at Hang Seng University of
Hong Kong, has spent his entire career working as a professional accountant and
business executive.
Dr. Alex Chui introduced new trinity of career success to
prepare for the AI era and these three distinct areas are:
i) Technical Literacy (Understanding the tools)
ii) Human-Centric Skills
iii) Adaptive Mindset
Then he added we should become AI-Fluent, not just
AI-aware. Learn to be the Pilot, not the engine.
And then Dr. Alex CHUI briefed some skills which were not
easily replicated such as critical thinking, EQ, creativity and communication.
Those are inter-personal skills!
After that Dr. Chui suggested AI career action plan
including experiment AI weekly, Networking, Building “T-Shaped” Profile and Focus
on Challenges.
In the future, we don’t compete with AI but collaborate
with it. Career path is no longer a ladder but like slashers.
Finally, Dr. Chui introduced concepts of financial
freedom or financial independence to survive and thrive in the AI era.
He also quoted Warren Buffetts’ philosophy of share
investment and recommended an famous investment book.
Finally, Dr. Alex Chui concluded: "In the age of
artificial intelligence, some jobs will disappear, and others will emerge.
Success depends on maintaining adaptability, cultivating fundamental AI skills
and human-centered skills, and critically evaluating whether AI-generated
information is biased or erroneous. To succeed in the AI era, one must focus
on mastering uniquely human skills, maintain active skills throughout one's
career, and accumulate knowledge and skills."
Lastly, he reminded everyone that the most important
things in life are survival, health, and happiness.
After the seminar, we took a photo for memory.
Then I had tea with Dr. Vincent Fung and Dr. YC Chau in the
new staff canteen.
