Advanced Class IV for I Ching (易經高班IV)–Lecture 4

Minda and I attended Prof. Pang’s (彭泓基教授) advanced class IV for I Ching (易經高班 IV) (6A class) the 4^th lecture which was held on 14^th Dec 2024. Lecture 4 continued to discuss I Ching and Buddhism (易經與佛教).

In the beginning, Prof. Pang reviewed the foundation of Buddhism theory on Four Noble Truths (四聖諦: 苦、集、滅、道).

Then he used the diagram to explain “Dependent Origination and Emptiness, Causal Cycle” (緣起性空, 因果循環). When you observed the result, that must have the cause.

“Dependent Origination and Kong, Causal Cycle” (緣起性空, 因果循環) is the core concept of Buddhism. “Kong” (空) is not translated as “Emptiness”. It has no solid body but nature.

We all focused on Prof. Pang’s lecture.

After that he introduced the “Madhyamaka” (中觀論) that included Yin and Yang Concept. Ignorant beings are obsessed with opposition (無明眾生執著於對立).

He explained the middle way of resolving the opposition by increasing the dimensions, and using advertisement strategy as example.

A summary of Buddhist theory was mentioned and we found it to be very systematic.

And then the relationship between I Ching and Buddhism were introduced.

Prof. Pang employed “Picture of five monarchs and ministers” (五位君臣圖) to demonstrate the integration between I Ching and Buddhism.

Finally, Eight Characters for Destiny (八字命理) and its reasoning logic were reviewed.

The summary of Yin-Yang, Five Elements and Directions of the Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches (天幹地支的陰陽五行與方向) and Ten Gods (十神) were showed in one diagram.

Lastly, Prof. Pang demonstrated how to explain Eight Characters for Destiny (八字命理).

Different positions would be affected by different force that indicated your characters. After the lecture, we had lunch together again.

FHKI - ISO 37001 Certificate Presentation Ceremony

I (Member of ISO Steering Committee & Honor Advisor of Compliance Committee) was honor to be invited for joining the ISO 37001 Certificate Presentation Ceremony on 13 Dec 2024. Awarded ISO 37001 certification, marking another milestone for the Federation of Hong Kong Industries (FHKI) apart from ISO 9001.

When I arrived the FHKI’s main office, I took a photo with the Christmas decorations on the logo.

I met Mr. Calvin Cheung (COO, FHKI) and Ms. Clara Chan (Executive Deputy Chairlady, FHKI). I remembered our first committee meeting was held in 2021.

During the ceremony, Mr. Steve Chuang (Chairman, FHKI) gave opening speech and celebrated for the achievement of ISO 37001 qualification by ACI (Certification Body). ISO 37001 Anti-bribery management systems enhanced our creditability for business worldwide especially Belt and Road Initiative.

Then Ms. Kit Yung (Business Director, ACI) gave a guest speech and she appreciated top management of FHKI fully support to implement ISO 37001.

And then Mr. Thomas Yu thanked FHKI fully supported for this project and achieved the implementation requirements.

Finally, all FHKI members and committee members took a group photo.

Compliance committee took a photo for memory. Ms. Clara Chan was former chairlady and Ms. Jackie Ng was current chairlady of compliance committee.

Lastly, I also took a photo with Mr. Steve Chuang (Chairman, FHKI) for this remarkable achievement.

At the end, I took a photo with that certificate that I completed the promise to Dr. Sunny Chai when I was invited to be advisor in 2021. I remembered he told be about ISO 37000. Since it is a guideline, I proposed to achieve ISO 9001 first as foundation and the seek to enhancement. Finally, FHKI achieved both ISO 9001 and ISO 37001 certificates.

ART Laboratory Visit and Macau Trip 2024

A&R (Macau) Testing Limited (ART) had performed remote reassessment for accreditation on Nov 2024 and then they invited us to visit the laboratory on 7th Dec 2024. We took a group photo in front of the laboratory.

Minda and I went to the Macau on 6^th Dec 2024 afternoon.

We stayed at the new hotel named “YOHO Treasure Island Hotel”.

At that night, we walked around and saw celebration of the 25th anniversary of Macao's return to China.

Many China flags and Macau regional flag!

On 7^th Dec morning, we saw a big Santa balloon outside the hotel.

When we arrived the laboratory, we took a group photo for memory.

Minda shared her experience of microbiology (MB) testing techniques to Crystal and Emme.

Leo and I took a photo inside the MB laboratory.

After that we had lunch outside.

In afternoon, we reviewed the internal audit report and held management review meeting.

We discussed some improvement items after review the records.

Finally, the demonstration of the MICA legionella testing.

Preparing the washing sample and then for instrument scanning.

Leo showed the data capture by the instrument.

At the end, we had dinner in The Eight Restaurant.

One of the most famous delicacies is Supreme Suckling Pig filled with Fried Rice and Preserved Meat.

After the dinner, Minda and I went to The Ruins of St. Paul (大三巴牌坊).

Then we come back and took a photo outside the hotel.

On 8^th Dec morning, we had a lazy breakfast and then come back to Hong Kong. Hopefully, we will meet in Macau again for World Summit for Chinese Quality in next year.

PolyU Research Salon on Advanced Manufacturing

For the Third InnoHK Research Cluster, Faculty of Engineering (FENG) organized a Research Salon in Advanced Manufacturing (e.g. Precision Engineering, Robotics, Systems Control, Microelectronics and other related topics) to solicit views and ideas from colleagues. In the beginning, Prof. H.C. Man gave opening speech and introduced the aims of the research salon.

Then Prof. Philip Chan shared his experience and explained the different focus between ITF and UGC funding.

He also encouraged colleagues to find partners for InnoHK program.

COMP Dept colleagues had joined this Salon including Dr. Wang Qixin and Dr. Li Ping.

After the salon, I took a photo with Prof. H.C. Man for memory.

I also discussed with Prof. Philip Chan and I remembered his discovery of LED that demonstrated in HKIE EE annual dinner in 2012.

He said the InnoHK focused on technology transfer that matching my HKIE article named “Fostering enginpreneur: From university to accelerator in Hong Kong startup ecosystem” published in 2021.

Dr. Raymond Pang is AIoT specialist and serviced in LSCM R&D center previously. Today is his first day in COMP Dept., PolyU. Dr. Jeff Tang and I have lunch with Dr. Pang together.
