HKQAA Green and Livable City Innovation &
Technology Forum 2025 was held in HKSTP grand hall on 17th Dec 2025
with the theme “Advancing Silver Economy and Green Transformation for a
Sustainable Tomorrow”. Before the forum, we met Mr. PC Chan (CEO, HKQAA) and Dr.
Nigel Croft (Chair, ISO Joint Technical Coordination Group from MS standards
(2020-2023)). We took a photo with robot for memory.
HKSQ teams included Mr. Keith Kwok, Ms. Angela Wong,
Dr. Jane Wong and I.
Angela and I arrived early and took a photo with Mr.
KT Ting (COO, HKQAA).
We also met Mr. Hip IP who assisted our TID funded project
for startup.
Then I took a photo with Ms. Ivy Leung (Sr. Manager,
Market & Technology, HKQAA).
My good friend Dr. Nigel Croft. We met almost every
year.
I recognized a new friend Mr. Simon Ngai (Executive
Director & Group Chairman, Oneness Health) represented Hong Kong General
Chamber of Social Enterprises Limited (HKGCSE) to support HKQAA.
I met old friend Mr. Kevin Chan who is former auditor
in HKQAA. He attended my talk in HKQAA ten years ago.
HKSQ team is ready for the forum.
In the beginning, Mr. PC Chan (CEO, HKQAA) gave
welcome and introductory speech. He mentioned financial and green related guidelines
and cooperation with Xi'an Jiaotong University for climate change.
Mr. Algernon Yau (Secretary for Commerce and Economic
Development, HKSAR Government) gave guest speeh. He stated that by 2043,
one-third of the population will be elderly. HKQAA provided different types of
Silver-Friendly registration schemes.
And then the Kick-off ceremony was held for “Silver-Friendly
Financial Products and Silver-Friendly Finance Taxonomy”.
Supporting organization and guests took a group photo.
The first speaker was Ms. May Kwan (Associate Director
– Marketing & Communications of CLP Power Hong Kong Limited) and her
sharing named “Supporting Hong Kong’s Sliver Economy”. She introduced CLP value
framework included “Care”, “Excellence” and “Responsibility”.
After that she briefed a smart E living for elders
using a citywide platform for senior-friendly services.
Finally, Ms. Kwan stated how to empower silver-friendly
future and she proposed four aspects including smart e living, HKQAA registration,
inclusive & livable city and leveraging innovation.
The second speaker was Mr. Kevin Wong (Head of
Structured Banking of Hang Seng Bank Limited) and his topic was “Unlocking
Opportunities in the Silver Economy”.
He said one of mission was to transfer social responsibility
into action. They had three pillars included “Capital Financing”, “Green
Assessment” and “Knowledge Advocacy”.
During break, I met Mr. William Tang (Auditor, HKQAA) who
was the first auditor to audit my ISO 9001 certified laboratory (PAL) at the HKSTP
a long time ago.
I also met Ms. Angelina Tang in Guangzhou branch and
she had served 15 years in HKQAA.
And then I took a photo with Mr. Simon Ngai and Mr. Ho
Chi Shing (Former Chairman, HKQAA). They were classmate!
I met HKQAA friend both from HK and Beijing. They were
Ms. Fion Yan (Assistant Director, Corporate Compliance), Ir Wilman Chan (Director,
Corporate Compliance) and Ms. Julie Zhao (COO) for mainland China.
After tea break, the kick-off ceremony for Advanced
Construction Technology White Paper 2025 started.
The third speaker was Mr. Glenn Mandziuk (President
and CEO of the World Sustainable Hospitality Alliance (WSHA)) and his
presentation title named “Accelerating the path to Net Positive Hospitality”.
Firstly, he introduced the mission of WSHA and
explained why sustainability revolution so important. It was started from the
international hotels environment initiative in 1992. Finally, he concluded
using NetPositive, indicating that we need to be eliminating or reducing our
footprints while maximizing our positive impacts and ensuring we are treading
as lightly as possible.
Dr. Nigel Croft (International Expert on Quality,
Sustainability and Conformity Assessment; Chair, ISO Joint Technical
Coordination Group from MS standards (2020-2023); Member of ISO Strategic
Advisory Group on ESG (2021-2023)) was the third speaker and his topic entitled
“Updating the ISO 45000 Series of Standards”.
Firstly, he reviewed the development history of ISO
45001:2018 from BS8750 to BS 8800 and then to OHSAS 18001. And then he pointed
out “Well-being” in existing standards of ISO 45000 series.
Finally, Dr. Nigel Croft discussed the possible
changes of the revision would be inclusion of references to well-being
throughout the standard; simplifying the treatment of risks and opportunities. In
addition, free of charge provision of occupational safety and health training
as well as PPE to workers were proposed.
The last speaker was Mr. Andy Fung (General Manager,
Advanced Construction Technology Business of HKQAA) and he shared the Climate
Information Disclosure Requirements for Listed Companies. He also introduced Climate
Impact GPS scheme and other workshops for the scheme.
Before end of morning session, Sustainable Climate
Risk Analyst (Western China Science and Technology Innovation Port) Training
Award Ceremony (可持續氣候風險分析師 (中國西部科技創新港) 培訓嘉許儀式) was performed.
After that we had lunch with Ms. Minda Chiang in the
science park. Ms. Angela Wong would stay for the afternoon session.
The most important talk by Dr. Nigel Croft was “Revision
of ISO 9001 & ISO 14001”.
Dr. Nigel Croft firstly briefed the changes to the “identical
text” of the harmonized structure in Oct 2023 that climate change is a relevant
issue.
He also mentioned ISO 14068-1:2023 “Climate Change
Management – Transition to Net Zero Part 1: Carbon Neutrality”. And then IOS
14001:2026 confirmed no new requirements.
After that Dr. Nigel Croft discussed “Low Carbon
Innovation” and mentioned ISO 56001 and innovation principles. (Remark: I was
the first and only observer in Hong Kong for ISO/TC 279 Innovation Management.)
Lastly, Dr. Nigel Croft concluded that ISO series
support “Low Carbon Innovation” and all ISO management system standards related
to climate change. ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 revisions would be published in
mid-2026 and early 2026, respectively.
