HKU Guest Lecture & HKSQ Membership Drive

I was pleasure to be invited as one of guest speakers by Dr. Aaron Tong to give a talk to HKU students who are studying the subject “IMSE 2009 Quality Management” in the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering on 4 Nov 2011.

My presentation is separated into two parts. The first part was to introduce the Quality Management System in Technology Support Centre (TSC) of Hong Kong Science and Technology Park Corporation (HKSTPC). The second part was to brief Hong Kong Society for Quality (HKSQ) and its activities included certification schemes.

Firstly, I briefed the background of HKSTPC and introduced different laboratories in TSC. Then the milestone of different certification such as ISO 9001, ISO 27001, ISO 17025 and OHSAS 18001 in TSC was mentioned. Moreover, I described how the eight quality management principles behind ISO 9001 which implemented in TSC.

Before the end of my first part presentation, I introduced my recently ANQ congress paper about Integrated Laboratory Management System (iLMS).

In the second part, I introduced HKSQ membership, certification schemes and student project competition, as well as, Asia Network for Quality (ANQ) Congress 2012 in Hong Kong. Moreover, I mentioned the report of Hong Kong Council for Testing and Certification (HKCTC) and explained that HKSQ has a role in the report to enhance the manpower training, especially Certified Six Sigma Green Belt (CSSBB (HKSQ)). The course “EIMSE 2009 Quality Management” of HKU has applying HKSQ accreditation.

The second guest speaker was Mr. Raymond Wong (Senior Project Manager, Energy Sector, Siemens Ltd.) and his topic was "Siemens Project Management". Mr. Wong said the similarity between project management and quality management. He said project with the support of QMS, a systematic approach, could obtain the following achievements: Completion in Time; Cost Control within Budget Limit, Resource Utilization in accordance with the Resource Planning and High Customer Satisfaction.

The Mr. Wong introduced Siemens Limited and showed a video. There are 4 sectors in Siemens, named as Energy, Health Care, Industry and Infrastructure and Cities.

After that Mr. Wong introduced "PM@Siemens" which was the standard for all types of internal and external project. "PM@Siemens" was developed through Siemens teams sharing the international best practice. At the end, he shared some project case studies with students.
