Today is the World Quality Day (WQD). WQD aims to promote awareness of quality around the world and to encourage individuals' development and organizations' prosperity. First promulgated by the United Nations in 1990, World Quality Day aims to raise international awareness of the important role quality plays in ensuring nations' prosperity. Now it is celebrated annually on the second Thursday of November.
Ms. Minda Chiang (Secretary of HKSQ) and I (Chairman of HKSQ) were pleasure to be invited as guest speakers by Dr. KS Chin to give a seminar to students of City University of Hong Kong (Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Total Quality Engineering (BETQE)) on 10 Nov 2011.
Ms. Minda Chiang's presentation topic entitled "Engineering Work at Good Manufacturing Practices Plant". She introduced the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) in Pharmaceutical Industry, and Engineering Work for GMP Compliance, as well as, Common Problems during GMP Implementation.
My presentation is "Develop Your Quality Profession with Hong Kong Society for Quality (HKSQ)".
Firstly, I briefed the background of HKSQ and introduced different certification schemes in America Society for Quality (ASQ) and HKSQ. Then I introduced HKSQ membership and student project competition, as well as, Asia Network for Quality (ANQ) Congress 2012 in Hong Kong. Moreover, I mentioned the report of Hong Kong Council for Testing and Certification (HKCTC) and explained that HKSQ has a role in the report to enhance the manpower training, especially Certified Six Sigma Green Belt (CSSBB (HKSQ)) and Certified Laboratory Quality Specialist (CLabQS (HKSQ)). There were three HKSQ accredited courses in SEEM department which were "SEEM3053: Quality Improvement: Systems and Methodologies", "SEEM6047: Quality Improvement: Systems and Methodologies", and "SEEM3068: Quality Management for Laboratory Operations".
