專欄: 可拓品質量

化事物為形式，開拓多元變化。這是可拓學的精要所在。回顧物元的三要素是物件(Matter)、特徵(characteristic)、量值(value)。公式化表示如: M = (O_m, c_m, v_m)。怎麼樣把事物用物元來表達呢？首先是寫出該物整體的特徵和量值，之後再把該物分解為部件及寫出各部件的物元。

以下一例可說明。

用物元來形容一個十毫升甲級的Cole-Parmer玻璃燒杯及它的尺寸。

一個用在實驗室的燒杯可以有什麼變化? 除了尺寸、容量、材料及品質等量值可改變。它的特徵也可以更改。當我在一間中學作職業講座嘉賓時，我收了一個用燒杯做的杯子。它就是在特徵上加了個杯柄。由實驗室的燒杯變成家用的杯子！這應用了可拓變換中基本變換的「增刪變換」。 (注: 燒杯 D 是指特定的某一個燒杯。)

Extension Innovation Method Trainer Course Level 2

至善日新

至善日新

專欄: 可拓品質量

在2016年7月的第一屆全球華人品質峰會中，我身為峰會籌辦委員會主席，把峰會主題名為「至善日新——品質與創新」。我把主題的意義和大家分享一下。

「至善日新」的出處是來自<<大學>>，是從“大學之道，在明明德，在親民，在止於至善。＂及“湯之＜盤銘＞曰：「苟日新，日日新，又日新。」＂中抽取出來。「至善」意思是以成就自己及成就他人的圓滿價值為歸宿；「日新」意思是若能日求進步，天天求進，不斷求進。所以「至善日新」道出了品質與創新的精髓—卓越（Excellent）和持續的改進（Continual Improvement），最終達致創新（Innovation）。

「品質與創新」中，「品質」意味著客戶滿意度和持續改進。用一個簡單的句子來形容品質，就是“使事情變得更好”(Making Things Better - MTB)。「創新」的定義是“執行一個新的或顯著改善產品（包括服務）、或過程、新的營銷方法或新的組織方法應用在商業、工作場所或其他對外方面＂。簡單地說，創新是“製造更好的東西”(Making Better Things - MBT)。所以「品質與創新」，可說是「做出更好的東西而且越做越好」(Making Better Things Better - MBTB)。因此我們邀請了蔡文教授及楊春燕教授為峰會介紹「可拓學」及「可拓創新方法」。

CityU SEEM 5-Year Review of Academic Excellence

I was honor to be invited by Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management, CityU to attend the lunch meeting named “5-Year Review of Academic Excellence” on 6 April 2017.  The review covered multiple aspects including teaching and learning, research and knowledge transfer, and management.

CityU Eminence Society – The 1st Exco Meeting 2017

The CityU Eminence Society (CES) 1^th Exco Meeting was held on 3 April 2017.  I appreciated to Dr. Peter Ho who nominated me to join the executive committee.  We took a group meeting for memory.

CityU Guest Lecture of Quality Innovation & Extenics to TQE Students

I was honor to be invited by Dr. KS Chin (Asso. Professor, SEEM, CityU) to give a talk named “Quality Innovation & Extenics” to students of Bachelor of Engineering (Honors) in Total Quality Engineering (BETQE) on 3 April 2017. Before the lecture, I took a photo with Dr. KS Chin.

HKSQ QoL Ping Shan Heritage Trail Walking Tour

The HKSQ Quality of Life (QoL) Series had launched since 2013 and it aims to bring social activities to our members other than professional seminars, workshops or visits.  Mr. CP Chow (Former Chairman, HKSQ) is our leader to introduce different historical location in Hong Kong to us.  In this year, "Ping Shan Heritage Trail Walking Tour" was organized by Hong Kong Society for Quality (HKSQ) on 1^st April 2017.  The Ping Shan Heritage Trail was inaugurated on 12 December 1993.  Stretching about 1.6 km in length, the Trail meanders through Sheung Cheung Wai (上璋圍), Hang Tau Tsuen (坑頭村) and Hang Mei Tsuen (坑尾村).  It links up a number of traditional Chinese buildings within easy walking distance of each other to provide visitors with an opportunity to learn more about traditional life in the New Territories.  In this morning, we gathered in the Tin Shui Wai West Rail MTR Station.

CityU Engineering Doctorate Society - the 1st Exco meeting 2017

Today, CityU Engineering Doctorate Society (CityU EngD Society) was held the 1^st executive committee (exco) meeting on 1^st April 2017.  After the last AGM on 18 Jun 2016, new committee members were elected and then we arranged EngD(EM) Graduation Dinner & EngDSoc Annual Dinner on 27 Nov 2016.  So this time, we led by our chairman Dr. Herbert Yeung to discuss society development direction.

可拓品質量

可拓品質量

什麼是可拓品質量 (Extension Quality)? 是本人嘗試把可拓學及品質管理結合一起的方法。「可拓學」是蔡文教授自1976年選題，用了七年時間研究解決矛盾問題。在1983年發表論文“可拓集合和不相容問題＂及宣佈了新學科「可拓學」的誕生。它是人類的各種創新方法、模式及機制歸納而成的一套理論。可以解決矛盾問題及應用於產品創新，化不可能為可能的一套中國原創學科。

Quality在香港及台灣譯作「品質」，在國內譯為「質量」。本人覺得Quality應該包含品(Brand)、質(Quality)、量(Quantity)三個原素。在工業的時代，因為供不應求，所以產量第一。當經濟發展起來，人們要求產品有質素（質量／品質）。現今大家都注意品牌，它代表產品的個性。

把可拓創新方法和品質管理結合，提升產品及服務的品質與創新（Quality & Innovation）。其實「創新」和「品質」有一共通性，就是將產品、服務以至於商業模式的改進（Improvement）。之後文章會介紹「可拓學」及其在品質管理中的應用。

CityU Seminar “What do you need to be an Entrepreneur?”

CityU Education Platform for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CePIE) arranged a seminar named “What do you need to be an entrepreneur?” on 27 Mar 2017.  It aimed to share some entrepreneurs experience to student for enhancing their knowledge on starting business.  In the beginning, Dr. Hongyi SUN (SEEM) briefed the purpose of seminar and introduced CePIE and tonight guest speakers.

HKIE Seminar on Quality Innovation – Introduction of Extenics

I was honor to be invited by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) – MI division as guest speaker for the seminar named “Quality Innovation – Introduction of Extenics” on 20 Mar 2017.  Hong Kong Society for Quality (HKSQ) was supporting organization.  In the beginning, I introduced the definition of Innovation, Innovation Tool development history and compared with Quality Tool development path. 

CUHK Science Career Fair 2017 – HKCTC Recruitment Talk

I was honor to be invited by the Hong Kong Council for Testing and Certification (HKCTC) to give a Career Talk during Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Career Fair on 16 March 2017.  The Careers Fair is an annual event organized by the Career Planning and Development Centre - CUHK, facilitating an on-campus platform for students and employers to interact.

IUPUC University Students visit to HKSTP

Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management (SEEM), City University of Hong Kong arranged BSc Business Studies students from Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus (IUPUC) visited to Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks (HKSTP) on 14^th March 2017.  Firstly, I briefed the visit agenda, introduction of HKSTP and our incubation program to the students who led by Prof. Frank H. Wadsworth (Division Head, Division of Business, IUPUC, USA) (Right First).  We took a group photo in Idea Lab for memory.

Technical Visit to EPACK Lab and JC Controlled Environment Test Facility

IEEE-CPMT Hong Kong Chapter arranged a technical visit to Electronic Packaging Laboratory (EPACK Lab) and Jockey Club Controlled Environment Test Facility (JCCETF) in HKUST on 10 March 2017.  By visiting EPack Lab, the latest development of Integrated circuit (IC) manufacturing process, mechanical reliability test, failure analysis, material characterization and long term reliability test.  The JCCETF has achieved HOKLAS accreditation since 1999, the facility is a multi-test thermal and energy efficiency testing set-up for the testing of various home appliances such as air conditioners.  I remembered that I was the consultancy to assist JCCETF to get the HOKLAS accreditation in 1998 when I served in CMATCL.  The facility and environment was no changed.  When we arrived at JCCETF, TM Lau (HKSTP) and Dr. George Lau (OUHK) and I took a photo in front of the testing facility.  

Briefing Seminar on Equipment Service in the CUHK-HKSTP Agreement

HKSTP organized a seminar named “Briefing Seminar on Equipment Service in the CUHK-HKSTP Agreement” on 6 March 2017.  HKSTP has signed an agreement with CUHK, stating that clients of HKSTP are able to book and use core facilities, related to the biomedical/health/life sciences, in CUHK under necessary regulations and with favorable fees.  Dr. Simon Lee (Scientific Officer of Li Ka Shing Institute of Health Science, CUHK) was our guest speaker and introduced their core facilities to us.
