DIAMIDEX & BLC Webinar – Improve your Productivity with Legionella Pneumophila Rapid Method

 The Webinar entitled “Improve your Productivity with Legionella Pneumophila Rapid Method – A MICA Advance case study by BLC Macau” was organized by DIAMIDEX and BLC Macau on 28^th May 2025.

Ms. Veronica Ponnuthurai (Business Mager, Diamidex) was MC and Dr. Fanny Marie Passot (R&D Project Leader, Diamidex) was speaker. Mr. Leo Choi (District Manager, BLC Macau and Lab Manager, A&R Macau) was guest speaker to share case study using MICA Advance Legionella system.

Dr. Fanny Marie Passot was the first speaker and she firstly introduced Diamidex company background.

Then she shared their vision that making the invisible visible faster to make your world safer.

After that she mentioned MICA solution for different microorganism test with comparison between standard methods and Diamidex methods. They had shorter much testing time.

Dr. Fanny Passot introduced their breakthrough using Machine Learning to detect and identify microcolonies.

Finally, she compared MICA Legionella system with ISO 11731 workflow that reduced time to result from “7-14 days” to 2 days!

The overall comparison summary was showed. 

Mr. Leo Choi was the guest speaker and his topic named “How MICA Advance Legionella Improve Our Productivity”. 

In the beginning, Leo summarized his talk including purpose, process and payoff.

He comparison the cost efficiency from conventional method and MICA method in terms of steps, incubator space, sample handling limit, skill requested. MICA Advance Legionella demonstrated excellence performance.

After that he shared his daily workflow that one technician using MICA Advance Legionella to do 24 samples as well as E. Coli & HPC samples.

Finally, Leo concluded that they were able to handle 5 times more samples than original method and decreased the manpower need. 

At the end, Ms. Veronica Ponnuthurai wrapped up the webinar.

Lastly, Q&A session, Mr. Leo Choi answered some technical and practical questions.

Chinese Traditional Wisdom for the Study of Knowing People (中華智慧知人學)–Lecture 4

 Minda and I attended Prof. Pang’s (彭泓基教授) course named “Chinese Traditional Wisdom for the Study of Knowing People” (中華智慧知人學). Lecture 4 discussed the “Records of Personages《人物志/ Renwuzhi 》” that was held on 24^th May 2025.

In the beginning, Prof. Pang briefed some background of the “Records of Personages” and told us to understand different people under different position. We need to know how to assess the situation.

Prof. Pang said Renwuzhi is China's oldest book on psychology about human character and nature.

Seemingly ordinary, but with profound meaning. "Ordinary" (平淡) is the highest quality of people.

And then he explained the Five Elements to Symbolize the Five Virtues including Gentle, simple, generous, strong and honest (溫和 (木), 簡明 (火), 寬厚 (土), 剛強 (金) & 忠厚 (水)).

After that he discussed Partiality Talent (偏材) and summarized into Types, Standards, Ability to recognize (gains) and Loss (defects).

Finally, Prof. Pang mentioned Wisdom of knowing people (識人的智慧) from Zhuge Liang (諸葛亮), Confucianism (儒家), Zhuangzi (莊子) and Liu Shao (劉卲).

In Confucianism, people separated into three level and six obstacles.

Zhuge's Art of War (諸葛兵法) was quoted to explain how to knowing people.

The second part was identification of the evil (辨奸).

It related to observe people, know people and employ them. 

Finally, five evil things in life under Confucius's Analects were stated. The evil must be eliminated.

After the class, we had lunch together.

Dinner and talk with Mr. Paul Chan (文相濡) in Xiqu Centre

Prof. Pang’s (彭泓基教授) invited Mr. Paul Chan (文相濡 - 陳琪豐) to have dinner and gave special talk to students of “Chinese Traditional Wisdom for the Study of Knowing People” (中華智慧知人學) on 23^rd May 2025 in restaurant of Xiqu Centre (戲曲中心). Before the dinner, I took a photo with Mr. Paul Chan. 

Before the dinner, I walked around of Xiqu Centre.

During the dinner, Prof. Pang gave welcome speech and introduced Mr. Paul Chan to us. We had dinner first and then Mr. Chan gave a talk.

We had three tables and I took some photos for memory. Guests were in Table 1.

Minda and I and classmates were in Table 2.

Class representative (Kinsen) and classmates were in Table 3.

After the dinner, Prof. Pang invited Mr. Paul Chan to give his talk.

Mr. Paul Chan (文相濡) gave a talk entitled “Changes in the world situation after the tariffs in the Year of the Snake” (乙巳蛇年關稅後的世局變化).

In the beginning, he briefed his prediction in The Hong Kong Economic Times (HKET) that the “East rises and the West declines" also leads to the dualization of the world situation in the Jiuyun Lihuo Gua (九運離火卦象) (2024-2043). And the China-US showdown in 2025!

After that he employed "Book of the August Ultimate through the ages" (皇極經世書) to predict the global trend in early 2025.

Mr. Chan found that USA (western) without gold! Five elements (五行) missed gold that western financial institutions would have some problems.

Finally, he used “Nine Stars Hexagram Theory” to predict the situation after 2025 tariffs. It was found not good for USA and also HK!

Lastly, Mr. Chan briefed Feng Shui (風水) changes in Hong Kong during the Ninth Period (九運). North direction is good.

Visit to Hong Kong Precious Metals Assay Centre for HKSQ Corporate Member

I was honor to be steering committee member of Hong Kong Precious Metals Assay Centre (HKPMAC) under Hong Kong Gold Exchange (HKGX) (previously under The Chinese Gold & Silver Exchange Society (CGSE)) since 2015. Based on HKPMAC high quality service to gold community in Hong Kong and Macau, HKPMAC was nominated to be HKSQ Corporate member. Our chairman (Dr. Jane Wong) and vice-chairman (Ms. Angela Wong) presented the corporate membership plate to Mr. Brian Fung (CEO, HKGX) and Dr. Kathy Fu (Lab Manager, HKPMAC) on 22^nd May 2025. 

When I arrived the Hong Kong Gold Exchange early, I took a photo for showing the location.

In the office, Dr. Jane Wong (Chairman, HKSQ) introduced HKSQ vision, mission and services especially student project competition and World Summit for Chinese Quality to Mr. Brian Fung (CEO, HKGX).

Then Dr. Jane Wong presented the plate to Mr. Brian Fung.

After that Mr. Brian Fung led us to visit the Hong Kong Gold Exchange. A large area with lots of old-fashioned telephones. Brian said that in the past (supposedly the 70s) it was so crowded that every business had two phones for pricing and ordering. 

And then I selfie a group photo.

Finally, we visited the laboratory. The security level is very high.

Dr. Kathy Fu explained their services and testing methods.
