I was pleasure to be invited as guest speaker to give a talk to HKUST students who are studying the subject “IELM 001/2: Academic and Professional Development” on 26 Oct 2011. This course aims to provide academic and professional advising to students and to develop their technical and non-technical communication skills.
There were nearly 120 student. My presentation is separated into two parts. The first part was to introduce the Testing and Certification Industry, as well as, Quality Movement in Hong Kong. The second part was to brief Hong Kong Society for Quality (HKSQ) and its activities included certification schemes.
I mentioned the report of Hong Kong Council for Testing and Certification (HKCTC) and explain that HKSQ has a role in the report to enhance the manpower training, especially Certified Six Sigma Green Belt (CSSBB (HKSQ)). “EEMT522: Six Sigma Quality Management” of HKUST has been accredited by HKSQ.
In the second part, QMS in Technology Support Centre (TSC) of Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTPC), laboratory accreditation was briefed.
After that I introduced HKSQ membership, certification schemes and student project competition, as well as, Asia Network for Quality (ANQ) Congress 2012 in Hong Kong. The ANQ Congress 2012 venue is in HKUST.
Lastly, I am glad to receive a souvenir from Prof. Fugee Tsung (Professor and Head, Department of Industrial Engineering and Logistics Management of HKUST).
