ANQ Congress 2018 Almaty, Kazakhstan – Technical Visit

Asian Network for Quality (ANQ) Congress 2018 was held in InterContinental Hotel, Almaty, Kazakhstan was held from 19-20 Sep 2018. The congress theme was “The Future of Quality Leadership in IT-Age”.  After ANQ Congress, Prof. Azat arranged two companies for technical visit on 21 Sep 2018.  Since I needed to attend IAQ general meeting and symposium.  Minda joined with SQI team to visit two companies.  The first company named «TOKYO ROPE ALMATY» LLP.  The group photo was taken inside the factory.

Then they visited the production line such as steel covered by aluminum-zine alloy.

Some welding process was observed.

The product used to gather stone to prevent falling stones from the mountain.  Left hand side was produced by others competitor with low quality.  Right hand side was their product.

There were 17000 tones output per year export to near countries.

The second company visited was «ALMATY PRODUCT» LLP which was food industry. It had established since 2002 and got national award in 2017.  In the beginning, all participants had tried their products.

Then they discussed the specification of each product and there were more than 200 types. They employed TQM pyramid and their cornerstone is quality

All participants needed to change lab coat before visit inside the factory.  Their products exported to China, Russia, and German using national standard.

Finally, Minda represented HKSQ to present our 30^th anniversary book to the representative for memory.

Asian Network for Quality (ANQ) Congress 2018 was held in InterContinental Hotel, Almaty, Kazakhstan was held from 19-20 Sep 2018. The congress theme was “The Future of Quality Leadership in IT-Age”.  The ANQ Congress 2018 – Gala Dinner was held on 20 Sep 2018.  In the beginning, Prof. Azat Abdrakhmanov (Chairman of the Congress Organizing Committee, Chairman of ANQ & President of KOQIM) gave an opening speech of gala dinner and arranged traditional performance to us.

Asian Network for Quality (ANQ) Congress 2018 was held in InterContinental Hotel, Almaty, Kazakhstan was held from 19-20 Sep 2018. The congress theme was “The Future of Quality Leadership in IT-Age”.  The second day of ANQ Congress 2018 was held on 20 Sep 2018.  Morning session was parallel sessions.  HKSQ team took a photo in front of the Congress banner.

Parallel Session III

I attended the session C2 (Technology and Models for Business Excellence) late.  Mr. Too was the session chair.  At that time the speaker was Mr. D.M. Liao (REDI, Taiwan) and his presentation entitled “The Promotion of Reliability Management and Engineering Practices Model – Machine Tool Industry as Example”.  He said the reliability enhancement tools proposed by Reliability Engineering Development Institute (REDI) since June 2016.

Mr. Liao introduced REDI-PRM^® (REDI-Reliability Practice Model) with other tools including FMEA, CADM, QC 7 tools and FRACAS, etc. REDI-PRM^® was the most effective, efficient, and fundamental methods to achieve both the quality and reliability goals. 

And then I went to the session C3 (Service Excellence and Customer Satisfaction).  Ms. Elizabeth M. Keim (Managing Partner, Integrated Quality Resources; President, IAQ) was last speaker of the session and her topic entitled “Using Lean Six Sigma to Improve Customer Experience”.  She aimed participants would become familiar with methods for determining customers’ experience and understand how results of customers’ experience could be improved using LSS.  

Ms. Elizabeth Keim briefed the different among Customer Experience, Customer Satisfaction/Dissatisfaction and Customer Loyalty.  For measuring customer loyalty, she suggested to use Net Promoter Score (NPS). 

Then she briefed the sources of customer-oriented data included Usability testing, Surveys, Focus groups, Heuristic evaluations, Competitive analyses, Complaint tracking, Referral tracking and Social media monitoring.  And the she discussed Kano Theory of Attractive Quality.  Lastly, she shared the practical implications of the research on the efficacy of self-assessment that organizational maturity impacts the value of framework-based evaluations.  

Prof. Wan Seon Shin (President of KSPE, Former President of KSQM and Professor, Sungkyunkwan University) was the session chair and presented appreciation certificate to Ms. Elizabeth Keim.

Asian Network for Quality (ANQ) Congress 2018 was held in InterContinental Hotel, Almaty, Kazakhstan was held from 19-20 Sep 2018. The congress theme was “The Future of Quality Leadership in IT-Age”. Ishikawa-Kano Awarding Ceremony

Mr. Janak Metha (Chairman, IAQ) announced the Ishikawa-Kano Awarding in the ceremony for the individual achievements in the field of Quality Management.

Prof. Suzuki Tomomichi (Professor, Department of Industrial Administration, Faculty of Science and Technology, Tokyo University of Science) represented Ishikawa family to receive the award.  (He was student’s student of Ishikawa through academic traceability.)

Prof. Kano received award for his contribution in quality management field.

Prof. Ching-Chow Yang (楊錦洲) (CSQ) received the first Ishikawa-Kano medal

It is for his signification contribution to the promotion of quality management in Taiwan and China.

Another profession obtained this medal was Mr. N. Ramanathan (Adviser (TQM) SRF) and Mr. Jagannathan Ravikant represented him to receive the medal.

He also gave the appreciated message from Mr. N. Ramanathan.  

Parallel session VI (Management Quality in IT Economy)

I was the first speaker in this session and took a photo with session chair Dr. Ngo Van Nhon (VQAH). My presentation topic entitled “Quality Innovation using an Extenics Six Sigma (ExSS) Approach and a Case Study”.

Opening Plenary Session

In the beginning, Prof. Azat Abdrakhmanov (Chairman of the Congress Organizing Committee, Chairman of ANQ & President of KOQIM) gave a welcome speech and he was pleased to meet all delegates and guests of the Congress who arrived with the purpose of exchanging modern experience and knowledge in the fields of quality management.  ANQ was an excellent platform for the participants to create friendly and partnership ties, launch new fruitful cooperation with representatives of not only the Asian continent, but also other parts of worlds.

Pre-ANQ City Tour (18 Sep 2018)

Minda and I went to Almaty, Kazakhstan for ANQ Congress 2018.  Before the congress, we had city tour and the first location named “First President of Kazakhstan” which we had visited on 2011.

Our personal tour guide named Quanysheva Gainel and she led us for one day city tour.  The tour is US$60-70 per person per day (including car and some ticket fee).

Then we went to Panfilov Heroes Nenorial Park that we also visited in six years ago. 

We saw a temple with Russian style named “The Ascension Cathedral” which was under decoration.

Pre-ANQ Congress 2018 – WACQ Meeting in Kazakhstan

Minda and I went to Almaty, Kazakhstan on 17 Sep 2018 that the super typhoon (山竹) had just passed Hong Kong Yesterday.  It is lucky that our fight was on time leave.

We took a taxi to go to the Hong Kong airport.  3 paths highway became 1 path and many tree fall that blocked the road.  

Near the Kazakhstan airport, we saw the ice mountain.

We arrived the Almaty International Airport and took a photo for memory.

WACQ Meeting (17 Sep 2018)

When we went into InterContinental Hotel, we had the World Alliance for Chinese Quality (WACQ) meeting for the 3^rd World Summit for Chinese Quality (WSCQ).  Mr. Chan Kee Ann (Vice-Chairman & Education Chairman of Singapore Quality Institute) presented their plan.  The 3^rd WSCQ would be held from 8 to 9 Nov 2018.

Industry 4.0 Interactive League Platform

In order to enhance industry to upgrade technology, Hong Kong Federation of Innovative Technologies and Manufacturing Industries (FITMI) got the SME Development Funding from TID for Industry 4.0 project and Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) is implementation agent.   

Recently, HKPC arranged a series of seminars and workshops for Hong Kong industry.  During attended the seminar named “Hong Kong Industry towards “Industry 4.0” Deployment” on 3^rd Sep 2018, I met Fraunhofer experts and took a photo for memory.  I took a photo with Mr. Toni Drescher (Director Invention Center, Technology Management, Institute for Production Technology (IPT)).

I also took a photo with Mr. Patrick Kabasci (Technology Management, Fraunhofer IPT, KEX Knowledge Exchange AG).  His seminar was summarized in reference which was held on 3 Sep 2018.

HKSTP & HKQAA Quality Startup Scheme Meeting

After the early 2018 meeting with startup stakeholders, we had a Quality Startup Scheme meeting between HKSTP Incubation Program team and HKQAA team.  We reviewed past activities and looking forward a new initiative in Science Park and HKQAA on Fintech and Green Finance.  We took a group photo for memory.

CityU EngD (EM) Orientation 2018

Engineering Doctorate in Engineering Management – EngD (EM) which established in the Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management (SEEM), City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) since 2001.  The orientation for new students was held on 10^th Sep 2018.  The programme is designed for elite senior managers and engineers in all kinds of organizations in Hong Kong and mainland China. It aims to develop students’ creative thinking and overall capacity to apply innovative technologies and advanced management methods to meet the strategic needs of their organizations.  All cohorts took a group photo for memory at the end.

In the beginning, Dr. Alan Chan (EngD Prog. Leader, SEEM of CityUHK) gave a welcome speech to the new cohort. 

Then Ms. Joana Li introduced the details of EngD (EM) included fees and charges.  It cost HK$7,430 per credit with maximum 21 credit unit for taught course and 36 credit units for research component.  Examination fee and re-examination free both were HK$1,500.

Normal duration of EngD (EM) is 4 years and usually started the research thesis in the 2^nd year.
