Industry
4.0 Implementation Workshop Series was organized by Hong Kong Productivity
Council (HKPC) on 18th Mar, 1st & 12th Apr
2019. Mr. Patrick Kabasci (Technology
Management, Fraunhofer IPT, KEX Knowledge Exchange AG) was our trainer. Three workshops included “Industry 4.0 market
and technological trends analysis, practical tools and technology”, “Industry
4.0 technical contents of pilot project” and “Industry 4.0 technical contents of
pilot project” and “Industry 4.0 implementation strategic focus and
steps”. I missed the first workshop and
would attend the second and third one. I
summarized the last workshop for sharing. In the beginning, Mr. Luker Tsoi
(Consultant, Industry 4.0, HKPC) introduced FITMI and they approved SME
Development Fund for Industry 4.0 for SMEs in Hong Kong.
I
took a photo with Mr. Patrick Kabasci (Technology Management, Fraunhofer IPT,
KEX Knowledge Exchange AG) at the end of the workshop.
During
the workshop, I met my old friends and we took a photo for memory.

Mr.
Patrick Kabasci (Technology Management, Fraunhofer IPT, KEX Knowledge Exchange
AG) was today’s trainer and his topic was Industry 4.0 Strategy.
Firstly,
he briefed the framework of the digit transformation that included 1) Vision
& Strategy, 2) Culture &
Leadership, 3) Organizational Structure, 4) Governance & Control, 5)
Capabilities, and 6) Partnership & External Stakeholders.
1) Vision & Strategy – preparing and aligning the organization for the digital transformation. Mr. Kabasci said DB was Germany railway used digital roadmap to set business goal and peoples in-charged KPIs. In Business Model Innvoation, moovel model was paid based on time rather than type of car. (In other words, it based on result whatever transportation.)
2) Culture & Leadership –
setting sails means changing the mentality within the organization. TRUMPF established
Chief Digital Officer (CDO) responded for divisions of digital
transformation. Patrick said this post
most be C-suite (Top management) for culture and leadership.
3) Organizational Structures –
Setting the organization prerequisites to facilitate digital change &
innovation. Patrick said 3M organization
structure was based on technology platform (not product). Alternative
development paths mean to establish small lab (said within 10 people) to test
new things.
4) Governance & Control –
being aware of hurdles and actively navigating around them. Mr. Kabasic discussed
that we should master the data management and ensured the quality data we got.
5) Capabilities – developing
the basic skill set for the digital transformation. We expected right people in place and provided
sufficient training for data technology they needed.
6) Partnership & External Stakeholders –
thinking across company boundaries to unfold synergy potentials. B2B platform would be more and more.
After
that Mr. Kabasic briefed the summary of the main “to-do” in each defined
dimensions. He explained the purpose of
an industry 4.0 roadmap is to ensure all capabilities were aligned and each
department was factored into projects to advance industry 4.0 levels. (end-to-end
processes)
Finally,
Mr. Patrick Kabasic led us to go the workshop for i4.0 roadmap. We only prepare the Visibility (Status quo)
and Transparency (Root causes). The
following table was framework for our exercise.
Each team identified a part of it and consolidated together.
The
results were showed as follows:
We
used food production (said orange juice process and bottling) as example. Its’ goad to ensure quality of raw
material. Supplier quality for orange
plantation should be considered. Then
application, current production and customers factors were considered.
At
the end we filled our discussion into the framework from 1i to 2i, and then
lined up their relationship. In future,
we should be looking forward to 3i to complete the prediction level.
In
the second quarter of 2019, FITMI and HKPC would issue free industry guideline
for industry 4.0 for sharing.
