HKSQ Seminar on Quality Innovation from i4.0 to Q4.0

The 3rd World Summit for Chinese Quality (WSCQ) was organized by World Alliance for Chinese Quality (WACQ) and held from 8th to 9th Nov 2018 in Singapore. HKSQ was one of founding members of WACQ and arranged the seminar named “Quality Innovation: From i4.0 to Q4.0” on 16th Nov 2018.  This seminar aimed to share a presentation delivered at the Summit included introduction of the World Summit for Chinese Quality, Quality Innovation tools development, and Industry 4.0 (i4.0) which is based on Fraunhofer Institute for Production Technology (IPT) approach, as well as, Quality 4.0 proposed by ASQ and IAQ experts. The impact of AI on industry and quality management were also discussed.  In the beginning, HKSQ exco member and guest took a photo for memory.

Before the talk, I introduced the events in the World Quality Month which posted into HKSQ website.  And then I briefed the formation of WACQ and its former organization through Chinese Quality Forum since 2012.  Pre-WACQ had established in 206.

Then I (Chairman, HKSQ) started my talk and briefed quality innovation definition and tools development trends from four industrial revolution stages.

I also introduced three of important innovation tools and methodology included TRIZ, Innovation Culture and Extenics from Russia, USA and China, respectively.

The integrated Management System between Quality and Innovation were mentioned. It employed ISO 9001:2015 and CEN/TS 16555-1.  In near future, we would use ISO 50501 Innovation Management System.  Recently, it was renumbering to ISO 56000 series.

After that I introduced the Industry 4.0 (i4.0) which was learnt from Fraunhofer IPT.  One of most important idea on i4.0 was Digital Horizontal and Vertical Integration.  Which was not only organization itself but included supplier and customer systems.

The i4.0 model was named “Smart i4.0 Navigator”.  Four enablers that Sensors & Input, Connectivity, Data Analytics and Output & Actuators were key element for smart product/service, processes, networks and production.

Then I shared Prof. Wan Seon Shi idea of QM in the 4th Industrial Revolution.  In the past, production system was in one-way flow but now it was in multi-way flow through technology such as Big Data, AI and IoT.  Prof. Shi proposed using Quality Responsibility (QR) to be Quality Goal and Open Quality (OQ) worked as Quality Strategy.

And then I shared Prof. Mohamed Zairi idea on Quality 4.0.  He mentioned digital disruption coming now.  “Excellence is only possible if customers are happy.” he said. Prof. Zairi proposed six principles of Q4.0 including “Quality License”, “Organization Relevant”, “Quality Orientation Driven”, “Transformation”, “Excellence Maturity” and “Disruptive Quality Behavior”.

At the end, I proposed the Certified Quality 4.0 Professional Model that its BoK should be included elements of Management System Level, Management Tools Level and Culture Level, as well as, i4.0 concept and approach with knowledge on the state-of-the-art technologies (e.g. AI, Big Data, IoT and Blockchain).

Dr. KS Chin (Former Chairman) presented a souvenir to me.

We took a photo with HKSQ members.
