Before the seminar, I introduced the HKSQ World Quality Month activities and speakers.

The first speaker was Mr. Jim Hui (Senior Manager, Quality Management, ASTRI) and he shared his experience on implementing ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 in ASTRI.  Firstly, he briefed the history of ASTRI which was established in 2000 and designated as one of R&D Centres (for ICT) in 2006.

Then Mr. Jim Hui introduced the ASTRI ISO Journey from 2006 to 2017.  They got ISO 27001 in 2015.

After that he briefed the requirement of ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 27001:2013.  Both standards model were based on Plan-Do-Check-Act cycle and risk thinking.

However, ISO 27001 had Annex A with 114 Controls and Control Objectives which separated into 14 domains.

And then Mr. Jim Hui introduced ASTRI Information Security Policy in which covered all ISO 27001 controls and control objectives.

Finally, he mentioned how to strengthen IT Infrastructure Security.  They had quarterly vulnerability scans and annually penetration testing both externally and internally.

Lastly, Mr. Jim Hui shared his approaches to overcome different challenges.  He said to make sure R&D staff understand the standard and participated the awareness training. They arranged 11 training class of ISO 9001 for all staff (>500).  Communication meeting was very important to collect user needs and concerns. Establishing ISO task team and defining the scope of work were also very important.

Q&A session

Ms. Angel Lai (Senior Manager, Industry Liaison, MIT HK Innovation Node) was the second speaker and she introduced the MIT HK Innovation Node and its mission in Hong Kong.  The Node was announced in Nov 2015 and aimed to deepen MIT’s links to Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area.
