The seminar entitled “HKSQ CQM Certification” was organized by Hong Kong Society for Quality (HKSQ) on 4th Mar 2016. In order to develop local quality professionals, HKSQ has established a couple of HKSQ Certification programs in past few years which include Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Laboratory Quality Specialist (CLabQS). HKSQ launch another new certification program named Certified Quality Manager (CQM) recently. This seminar would introduce the academic qualification and professional experience requirements, certification examination format and schedule as well as the training course to help those who wish to seek recognition of their professionalism in Quality Management. Mr. Karson Chui (Former Chairman, ASQ CMQ/OE, CQE and CQA) was our guest speaker.
In the beginning, Mr. Karson Chui explained the benefit of certification such as demonstration of quality knowledge, life time learning, career investment and recognized status in quality arena. He then briefed different HKSQ Certifications (Details at http://www.hksq.org/cert_hksq.htm )
Then Karson briefed the Body of Knowledge of HKSQ CQM included Leadership, Strategy Development and Deployment, Management, Quality Management Tools, Customer Focus, Supplier Management, as well as, Training and Development.
For Academic requirements, there are several paths to achieve it below:
1. By Examination
- Pass a three-hour written examination.
2. By Exemption
- Completed and passed from relevant program/courses offered or accredited by the HKSQ, or
- Other equivalent qualification(s), subject to individual assessment and approval of the HKSQ.
For Professional experiences, a minimum of 4 years of on-the-job experience in one or more of the areas of the CQM BoK in which at least a minimum of two years of this experience must be in a decision-making position. And then Karson mentioned the certification fee and also stated the recertification through Continuing Professional Development (CPD) per 3 years.
Lastly, Karson introduced HKSQ Certified Quality Manager Training. The CQM training class is six full days (Saturday) covering the BoKs with a three-hour examination at the end of the class. The tentative schedule would be from Apr to May 2016.
