Technology Incubation Network (TIN) Inauguration 2018

Technology Incubation Network (TIN) Inauguration was held on 9th Jan 2018 in Ideal Lab, HKSTP.  Many startup enterprisers were invited to join the TIN Inauguration 2018.  Mr. Albert Wong (CEO, HKSTP), Mr. Charles Mok (Legislative Councilor - IT) and Ir. Dr. Lo Wai Kwok (Legislative Councilor - Engineering) were invited to be guest speaker.


I met many friends and took photos before the event start.

In the beginning, Mr. Kenneth Chau (Past TIN Chairman) gave welcome speech.  He appreciated HKSTP and all Incubatees (included graduates) to support their common goal that was to do good thing for Hong Kong Technology.  Moreover, he shared their objectives in last 2 years that was BAT indicating Business, Alumni and Technology.

CityU Emerging Technologies Forum – Advances in Battery Technology

CityU Emerging Technologies Forums look to the future. Speakers from industry and research institutions are invited to talk about the latest government policies, technological trends, local and regional initiatives and product development strategies related to their sectors.  The 2nd Forum named “Advances in Battery Technology” held in Innovation Centre, CityU on 5th Jan 2018.  In the beginning, I took a photo with Mr. David AI (Director, KTO) (Centre Left) and Ms. YS Chow (Senior R&D Manager – Rechargeable Products, GP Batteries International Ltd.) (Centre Right).

In the beginning, Prof. Henry Shu-hung Chung gave an opening remark.  He introduced the background of Emerging Technologies Forums and introduced guest speaker.


Ms. YS Chow (Senior R&D Manager – Rechargeable Products, GP Batteries International Ltd.) was the first speaker and her topic entitled “Recent Developments in Fast Charging Li-ion Batteries”.  Firstly, she briefed GP background and products.

Quality Improvement and Experience Sharing Convention 2017/18

I was honor to be invited by Mr. Albert Lo (System & Quality Development Manager, CLP) to attend the Quality Improvement and Experience Sharing Convention (QIESC) 2017-2018 on 3rd Jan 2018.  The first QIESC was instituted in 1997 by 6 participating organizations.  With strong support from other organizations, the Convention has become an annual major quality event with participating organizations taking turns to host.  I signed the poster when I arrived.

Dinner with Prof. Jianbo Yang (External Academic Advisor, SEEM, CityU) from the University of Manchester

I was honor to be invited by SEEM Dept., CityU to have dinner with Dr. KS Chin (Programme Leader, SEEM Dept., CityU) and Prof. Jianbo Yang (Director, Decisionand Cognitive Sciences Research Centre (DCS), Manchester Business School, The University of Manchester) on 29th Dec 2017.  Prof. Yang is External Academic Advisor of BEng in Systems Engineering and Management and I am one of the industrial advisors.  We had lunch in Science Park on 13th April 2012.  After today’s assessment by Prof. Yang, we had a dinner together.

An External Academic Advisor (EAA) is an academic from an institution other than the University, who provides expertise to an academic unit. The EAA is appointed for an academic unit or a programme / programmes of an academic unit by the Head of a college/school/centre. The primary responsibility for an EAA is to assist the academic unit in maintaining the international standards of its programme(s); and contribute to the strategic growth of Academic Unit and the University as a whole.

Industrial Advisor (Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management, CityU) serves an important role in bridging academic programmes with the industry and the community at large. Industrial Advisor will join Programme Committee to express views on the appropriateness of the programme of study for employment, the expected quality of graduates and the improvement of course design and review, teaching and student learning.

HKSQ Lunch with Mr. Srinivasan Ramasamy (Former Chairman, NIQR) & his family in Hong Kong Science Park

We are great that Mr. R. Srinivasan (Former Chairman, NIQR; Sr. GM – Operations, Natesan Synchrocones Pvt. Limited) and his family visiting Hong Kong and meeting Hong Kong Society for Quality (HKSQ) members.  My wife and I (Chairman, HKSQ) arranged a lunch in ClubONE restaurant in Hong Kong Science Park.  We took a photo during the lunch for memory.

During lunch, Mr. R. Srinivasan introduced the background of National Institution for Quality & Reliability (India) (NIQR) to me.  NIQR is more than 30 years old (established in July 1987).  NIQR structure is HQ and Branches in Chennai, Delhi and Pune, etc.   They provided different activities such as program for shop flow operation, Engineers and Managers on QA. Monthly lectures on various topics are provided by eminent personalities from Industry and two memorial lectures annually which made huge contribution to NIQR. The fellowships to their quality engineers are tied up with ASQ.  They also published bimonthly newsletter.  
Finally, he introduced the National Convention 2018 and the theme named “Digital Quality for Disruptive Future” in the National Convention 2018 started in Aug.

After lunch, I led them to visit Science Park and our laboratories.  Firstly, we visited Green 18 building.  Sri Krithi took a photo with green robot.

HKCTC & PolyU meeting in Science Park for Food Hygiene Management

During HKAS liaising meeting, I met Ms. Lynn Ho and we discussed about Science Park Hygiene Control mechanism.  It is golden opportunity to be cooperated with PolyU to implement the Food Hygiene Standard Certification System (FHSCS).  Therefore, we arranged a three parties meeting in Science Park on 23rd Dec 2017.  In the beginning, Mr. Kevin Edmunds (Senior Manager, Sustainability, HKSTP) briefed our licensing requirement for catering and restaurant type tenants which included Safety, Health and Environment requirements, as well as, Food Hygiene monitoring mechanism. They needed to submit food hygiene report, which performed by Certification Bodies, to us quarterly.


Ms. Jane Lee (Secretary-General Testing and Certification, HKCTC) briefed the role of HKCTC and would like to promote testing and certification in Hong Kong.  Food Hygiene Standard Certification System (FHSCS) was one of their focus items.

HKSTP & HKQAA meeting with EMSD for Startup Innovation Procurement

After meeting Mr. Richard C.W. Chan (Assistant Director, EMSD) in CLP Power QCC Convention 2017 on 8th Dec 2017.  EMSD was found interested in the procurement of Startup Innovation service/product through Science Park arrangement and HKQAA Registration – Start-ups scheme.  Therefore, I arranged a meeting with HKQAA, HKSTP Incubation Program team and EMSD Quality Team on 20th Dec 2017.  It is my first time to go to EMSD HQs.

HKCTC Seminar on Testing and Certification for Environmental Excellence

The Hong Kong Council for Testing and Certification (HKCTC) and Hong Kong Accreditation Service (HKAS) co-organized a seminar named “Testing and Certification for Environmental Excellence” held on 18th Dec 2017.  With increasing awareness of the importance of environmental protection, many enterprises and organizations had put in place green management and energy conservation measures.  This seminar aimed to introduce how testing and certification services could help improve the environment and enhance energy efficiency for buildings, facilities and offices.  I met Mr. Dominic Lam (CEO, CMATCL) and he was the first speaker.  We took a photo for memory.

The first speaker was Mr. Dominic Lam (Chairman, Hong Kong Indoor Air Quality Association) and his presentation entitled “Indoor Air Quality Control for Offices and Facilities”.  Firstly, he briefed IAQ parameters included Physical (Air Temp, RH and Air Movement), Biological (Airborne Bacteria) and Chemical (CO2, CO, RPS, TVOC, NO2, O3, HCHO and Rn) parameters.
