Industrial Guest Talk to BEng(Hon) in Total Quality Engineering, CityU

Minda and I were invited by Dr. K.S. Chin (Asso. Professor, MEEM Dept, CityU and Programme Leader of BEng Total Quality Engineering) to give a talk about GMP and Hong Kong Society for Quality for the year 1 student in TQE, on 09 Nov 2010.

Dr. K.S. Chin introduced the speaker.

The first speaker was Minda Chiang and her topic entitled “Good Manufacturing Practices for Pharmaceutical Industry”. She introduced GMP in Hong Kong and its compliance. Some common problems and non-conformities in GMP execution were discussed.

During discussion session, some students asked about clinical trial practice.

Then I represented Hong Kong Society for Quality (HKSQ) to introduce how to develop quality professional through HKSQ. HKSQ mission and activities, as well as, professional qualification were briefed.

Some international activities such as Asian Networking for Quality (ANQ) congress were mentioned. Moreover, students were encouraged to join HKSQ Student Project Competition.

After the seminar, Dr. Andy Wong presented a souvenir to us.

成功在於如何演繹自己-黎耀祥

在星期六(6 Nov 2010)下午, 我參加了康宏理財的一個講座, 名為”成功在於如何演繹自己”. 由黎耀祥先生主講.

首先主持介紹黎耀祥的戲劇生涯. 他在86年入行, 轉型期在97-98年 (拍了西遊記電視劇之後拍電影如風雲裹的泥菩薩). 在當時是電影低潮期, 他再次回到TVB拍電視劇. 在2007, 2008, 2009年, 是他奮鬥的收成期.

以下是黎耀祥對於成功在於如何演繹自己的一些節錄:

黎耀祥喜歡思考人生的意義, 每人都有不同的演繹, 他說到柴九金句“人生有幾多個十年”有兩個意義. 第一個是回顧過去幾個十年做了些什麼? 第二個是展望將來的幾個十年會做些什麼?

他說到工作的意義不只是出糧(雖然出糧是非常重要), 如果只為出糧, 你每個月只有一天快樂, 其餘都是痛苦. 所以要找尋工作的樂趣, 享受過程.

當他離開TVB拍電影, 再回來TVB拍電視劇時, 是他人生中的低潮. 但經過這一轉變, 他的看法改變了. 原來以前他做得未夠好, 在經濟壓力下, 他不停找尋有什麼可能性. 最終成為視帝. 這不是一套好的電視劇就可獲得的, 是要長年累月的磨練才得來. 如果沒有經歷過失敗, 是不能深入了解”失敗為成功之母”這句話.

再說到工作, 他認為工作是非常重要, 它的存在價值是貢獻社會. 大家要在自己能力範圍內創造更多的可能性, 來演繹自己的成功. 在失敗時, 要對自己有信心, 要用一生的時間來達成你的事業. 只要努力, 成功只是何時來到的問題而已. (如吳孟達, 關海山等)

黎耀祥的座右銘是”做事認真, 做人求其.”

在問答期間, 主持問到人生之中三個不能犯的錯誤是什麼?

黎耀祥的回答是:

第一, 不能騙太太

第二, 不能騙兒子 (因他的太太和兒子都在場.)

第三, 不能入錯行

而王利民先生(康宏理財揎控股有限公司主席)的回答是:

第一, 不怨天尤人

第二, 要活在當下

第三, 不能忘恩負義

最後王先生給了黎耀祥一個記念獎.

HKCIPS / ISM-PRD Networking Annual Dinner

I was glad to be invited by Mr. Daniel Chan (the President of Institute for Supply Management - Pearl River Delta (ISM-PRD)) to participant Hong Kong Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (HKCIPS) / ISM-PRD Networking Annual Dinner on 6 Nov 2010.

Mr. Tom Tang Chung Yen, JP (Managing Director, Meadville Enterprises (HK) Ltd. and Chairman of The Hong Kong Exporters’ Association) was invited to give us a key note speech.

Then Mr. Tom, HKCIPS and ISM-PRD executive members made a toast to all guests.

Minda and I represented Hong Kong Society for Quality (HKSQ) and took a photo with our table members for memory.

I had a chance to talk with Mr. Paul Novak (CEO of Institute for Supply Management (ISM)) and Mr. Daniel Chan. Then we took a photo for memory.

Certainty Among the Uncertainty – Dr. Ng’s Evangelistic Night

I was pleasure to be invited to attend Dr. Ng (吳宣倫博士) Evangelistic Night and his topic entitled “Certainty Among the Uncertainty”. He used bible to explain the world. (I had studied “Uncertainty of Uncertainty” for calculating the measurement of uncertainty but I didn’t know the certainty among the uncertainty. So I found it interested.)

Since I am not a Christian, many examples quoted I did not know. However, I would like to share some examples.

The following photo showed the metaphor example about “False Beliefs”.

However, I had the same experience of misinformation about bible below.

Then Dr. Ng used the hand-shaking characteristic of CPU communication to introduce the sequence of events and the timing diagram.

After that Dr. Ng demonstrated the History of Salvation by God. (It seems to difficult for people who is not familiar with Bible.)

Finally, Dr. Ng calculated the prophetic and found a perfect match. (I cannot proof because I was not familiar what bible said.)

During the seminar, I knew Dr. Ng was near 70 years old and used his live to serve his believe (God). He is a funny man and said many jokes. I recorded one of jokes in Chinese below.

三國人物相信大家都認識如劉備,關公及張飛. 如果Sammy有張演唱會飛, 會給誰呢? 答案是關公. (因為張飛劉備關公)

Dr. Ng would come to Hong Kong again in Dec 2010. (If I have chance, I would like to ask him some logical question come from Lee Tien Ming (李天命))

I believe something if I am not doubt. I will find the solution if I have time and interested in.

Briefing Session on ICT Standards – Mainland and Hong Kong (Part 3)

A Briefing Session on Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Standards – Mainland and Hong Kong (內地與香港信息通訊技術標準交流與合作研討會) held by Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC) on 3 November 2010.

Session Three ( E-book, E-Learning, Internet and LED Technology)

The first speaker in session three was Dr. Sheung-Chang Chao (VP & Group Director – Enterprise & Consumer electronics, ASTRI) and his topic entitled “ePUB v3.0 for e-Learning” (ePUB v3.0 為電子學習帶來的契機).

Dr. Chao said e-reading is different to e-learning. ePUB v3.0 was used for primary student. It was not teaching student automatically but considered individual progress and improved their study.

ePUB features included “Multimedia samples”, “Interactivity samples” and “Annotation Samples”.

The whole e-Learning System was demonstrated below. Devices (Hardware) was only the interface. The software part was the core.

Dr. Chao said ASTRI was member of ePub3.0 standard work group and contributes included Rich media and interactivity requirements, implementation proposal for rich media format, etc. Moreover, ASTRI had partnered with Hong Kong schools and publishers to provide total solution for Hong Kong e-Learning in Hong Kong school pilot programme.

The second speaker was Mr. Wong (國家電子書標準工作組組長 – 王立建先生) and his presentation named “e-book and its standardization’’ (電子書, 電子課本標準化情況概述).

Mr. Wong introduced an electronic book (e-book) is a text- and image-based publication in digital form produced on, published by, and readable on computers or other digital devices.

The trend of e-book development was focused on i) device; ii) content and iii) internet platform. Moreover, the operation platform requirement was increasing. The folloiwng showed some standards related to e-book:
GB/T 18787-2002《電子圖書閱讀器通用規範》
GB/Z 18906-2002《放式電子圖書出版物結構》

Mr. Wong discussed the Digital Textbook and mentioned the development of international standard through ISO/IEC JTC1 SC 36.

The third speaker was Mr. Pang (北京郵電大學 – 彭揚先生) and his topic named “The overview of mobile communication for e-reading standardization” (移動互聯網閱讀標準化情況交流).

Mr. Pang introduced the e-book supply chain in China.

The mobile internet reading practice changed our life.

GB/T 18787-2002《電子圖書閱讀器通用規範》was issued.

The comparison of the traditional publication and mobile internet reading industry were demonstrated.

E-book standard team was approved on 23 April 2010 and the first meeting was held on 18 Jun 2010.

The following diagram demonstrated the different capability between different brand e-books. It was included Amazon’s Kindle, Sony’s PS, Apple’s iPad, China’s MP3, etc.

The e-book format content was showed below.

GB/T 13016-2009《標準體系表編製原則和要求》was introduced.

Mr. Pang concluded that standard of e-book was the fundamental infrastructure for this industry. Moreover, Mr. Pang invited all related parties to join the development of e-book standards.

Mr. Lu Ming (Manager, LED Device Technology, ASTRI) was the forth speaker and his presentation named “The development of LED lighting and standard” (LED 照明與標準發展進程).

The 3D diagram showed the development of LED lighting.

There were many LED road light standard among Taipei, Hong Kong and China.

During the discussion, Mr. Lu Ming explained the different between static and dynamic testing on LED lighting. Moreover, some potential hazard were mentioned such as BS-EN 60825-1 Safety of laser products – equipment classification, requirements and user’s guide.

The last speaker was Ms. Chiu (中國電子技術標準化研究所高級工程師 – 趙英女士) and her topic entitled “The overview of the standardization for mainland LED and its application product” (內地LED及其應用產品標準化工作概述).
