Announcement of Professional Title (職稱) through HKIE to connect with Mainland System

 I am honour to be evaluated and nominated by HKIE for the title of “Professorate Senior Engineer” (正高級工程師) as recognition of my technical competence and achievement. The title was commonly named “Professor-level Senior Engineer” (教授級工程師). I attended the interview on 8 Jun 2025, the announcement was released on 17 July, and it would take effect after 24 July 2025. (1, 2)

The Human Resources and Social Security Department of Guangdong Province (GDHRSSD) accepted Hong Kong experts nominated by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE), granting them the Professional Title (職稱) since Nov 2023.  Promoting “Professional Title” evaluation not only creates opportunities for Hong Kong professionals to advance their careers in the Mainland but also fosters alignment with Mainland standards. There are five ranks of “Professional Title”, namely "Technologist" (技術員), "Assistant Engineer" (助理工程師), "Engineer" (工程師), "Senior Engineer" (高級工程師), and "Professorate Senior Engineer" (正高級工程師). Since different university programmes had been accredited by HKIE, our students would have more opportunities in their future career through HKIE membership. (4) 

Normally, it takes 6 years for students to become members of HKIE after graduation. However, if students worked in the company with HKIE Scheme A, they can complete the training and pass the examination to become a member in 3 years. After being evaluated by the Hong Kong and Greater Bay Area Representative Offices, members of the HKIE can be equivalent to the professional title of "Engineer" in the mainland. This should be very attractive to both local and mainland students.
