ISO Webinar on ISO 56001 and the Framework for Auditors

ISO Webinar on ISO 56001 and the Framework for Auditors for CB members on justification for ISO17021-x for IMS was held on 10^th July 2024. Since I missed the webinar, I reviewed the record of this webinar for member and summarized it on 15^th Jul 2024. In the beginning, Andrew Stanton (Convenor for Working Group 1, ISO TC 279 – Innovation Management) introduced the webinar content and schedule.

He briefed the ISO 56001 project developed by ISO TC 279 – Innovation Management since 2020. ISO56002 guidance was published in 2019 and ISO56001 would be published in Sep 2024.

Mr. Peter Merrill (Project Leader for ISO 56001) was the guest speaker and his topic named “ISO 17021 for ISO 56001 Innovation Management”. He said innovation looks to future and deals with uncertainty. ISO 56002 guidance standard was not sufficient so that ISO 56001 is for certification and designed for integration with a QMS.

Then Mr. Peter Merrill discussed the clauses of ISO 56001:2024 that focused on the added clauses including 5.3 Strategy, 5.4 Culture, 6.4 Portfolio, 6.5 Structure, 6.6 Collaboration, 8.2 Initiatives, 8.3 Innovation Process, 4.3.1 Innovation Intent, 5.1.3 Change Management and 7.1.2-7 Time, Finance, People, Knowledge, & IP.

After that Peter Merrill explained the innovation strategy to show the objectives and provide necessary support, as well as, setting tactical objectives, etc.

Top management should promote a culture of innovation, and auditors can ask questions regarding auditable evidence of a culture of innovation.

And then Peter Merrill discussed the innovation process in 5 steps: 1 Opportunity, 2 Concept, 3 Validate, 4 Develop and 5 Deploy.

Finally, he mentioned some unique factors of IMS such as “Auditors adjust their thinking as the strategy evolves.”

Lastly, he introduced different innovation tools and summarized that CEO’s focus on innovation as the competitive edge; and challenges to be made innovation more efficient and effective.

Mr. Willy Fabritius (Liaison for IIOA, IAF) was the second guest and he discussed topic named “Framework for Auditors – The Certification Body Perspective”. Firstly, he stated some unique factors of innovation management and then compared it with ISO 17021-x skills and knowledge including “Strategic thinking”, “Culture elements”, “Structures”, “Portfolio”, “Collaboration”, “IP Management”, “Processes”, “Measurements”, “Innovation terms” and “Tools and methods”.

Finally, he mentioned the ISO 17021-x clauses related to conformity assessment such as 7.1 Competence of personnel and 9 Process requirements, as well as, Annex A.

The Q&A session was moderated by Mr. Andrew Stanton, with Mr. Peter Merrill and Mr. Willy Fabritius discussing questions from the audience.

HKSB Tomorrow Will Be Better Midsummer Concert (⾹港盲⼈輔導會明天會更好仲夏⾳樂會)

Minda and I joined Tomorrow Will Be Better Midsummer Concert (明天會更好仲夏⾳樂會) organized by the Hong Kong Society for the Blind (HKSB) (⾹港盲⼈輔導會) on 13^th Jul 2024. Prof. Pang’s (彭泓基教授) and our class leader Kinsen Leung are performers in the concert.

Before the concert, we arrived early and took a photo with classmates and Prof. Pang.

Then we took a photo with classmates Pauline Ni and Michelle Ling.

Rachel Chan, Karen Mak and Partick Ng also arrived.

I took a photo with Partick Lui who is our class poet (詩人)!

In the beginning, Ms. Fok (Manager, HKSB) introduced the HKSB and the concert guests.

Prof. Pang then introduced all his friends as well as music and songs.

Sixteen songs were performed.

After Prof. Pang played the saxophone, Mr. Chan played the erhu (二胡).

Bonnie sang "Changing Partners" under Kinsen piano, Mr. Mak guitar and Prof. Pang's saxophone music.

Henry and Bonnie sang “笑傲江湖” with the accompaniment of piano, guitar, erhu and saxophone music.

Henry and Angel Yip sang “月亮代表我的心”.

Next, I on behalf of the I Ching Class to give our donation to HKSB

The Chairlady Ms. Law thank for your donation and Prof. Pang’s contribution to make the concert a success. Prof. Pang told us that Ms. Law was his classmate in primary school and university.

The concert was packed with guests, including I Ching students, friends of Prof Pang, and members of the HKSB.

The last song was “Tomorrow Will Be Better” (明天會更好).

Finally, Ms. Law presented HKSB cookies to all performers.

Remember Our Best Friend - Cecilia

A deeply sad news received that our best friend Cecilia (Ceci) passed away on the morning on 9^th July 2024. Ceci is very lively, cheerful, optimistic and perseverant girl we know. She is my wife best friend (閨蜜) and I met Ceci when I was dating Minda. Minda and I would like to express our sincere condolences to Ceci’s family, friends and colleagues.

In the morning, Minda wrote a message to inform all friends of Ceci. As knowing Ceci situation, Minda went to Australia with Ceci two sisters two weeks before.

Let's remember past events. In July 2006, Minda and Ceci visited Japan with their old colleagues.

Minda and I then decided to get married in Austria at the end of 2006 and Ceci arranged it for us. We went to Melbourne, Sydney and Tasmania. We took a photo at Sydney Olympic Park.

Take a ship ride to see the prison and play in the water on the way on 21 July 2006.

At our wedding, we took a photo with Ceci and her boyfriend.

We also took a photo outside the church park.

Advanced Class III for I Ching (易經高班III)–Lecture 1

Minda and I joined Prof. Pang’s (彭泓基教授) advanced class III for I Ching (易經高班 III) again. The first lecture was held on 6^th Jul 2024. The topic of lecture 1 is “I Ching and Qigong” (易經與氣功).

Prof. Pang firstly reviewed the Ten wings of I Zhuan (《易傳》⼗翼).

And then he briefed "Tuan Zhuan" (彖傳), “Xiang Zhuan” (象傳) and “Xi Ci” (繫辭). Prof. Pang said the most important for the phenomena of I Ching is imagination that is association of ideas (聯想).

After that he explain the Xi Ci from 1^st chapter to 12^th chapter. The first chapter explained the Yin and Yang (陰陽) and the second chapter is how to observe the phenomena and know good or bad luck.

In chapter three, it explains the Yao (爻) indicating the change.

Chapter four indicates how to align with the way of the Tao of the World (天地之道).

And then Prof. Pang briefed the relation of Tao and Yin Yang.

Part of classmates attended onsite and other part attended online. The chapter 6 to 9 are talking about “Huge Scope” (廣⼤), “Virtue” (崇德), “Vast Business” (廣業), “Hexagram Application” (卦⽘之應⽤) and “Divination” (術數).

There are four way of Saint and they are “Speak” (言), “Action” (動), “Design Rules” (制器) and “Forecast” (卜筮).

Finally, he mentioned “Divination” (占筮) and briefed the last chapter for Phenomena and Xi Ci (⽴象和繫辭).

The second part of the lecture is “I Ching and Qigong” (周易與氣功).

Then Prof. Pang explained the “Health Preservation and Qigong Thoughts” (養生與氣功思想) that come from I Ching.

After that he wrote Chinese calligraphy “君逸臣勞” meaning that the king is at ease but the minister is busy. So that calm your spirit and maintain your vitality.

Finally, he quoted Yi Gua (頤卦) to explain the Qigong Thoughts (氣功思想). It relates breathing and mouth.

After the class, we had lunch together.
