Visit to Dr Sun Yat-Sen Museum

I with wife family visited to Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Museum on 26^th May 2023. The photo of museum building was taken.

Then we took a photo in front of the Museum.

Once enter the Museum, the sculpture of Dr. Sun Yat-Sen was stand in the center.

The Museum open timetable was showed below.

There are many old photos described Dr. Sun stories such as he among “The Four Desperados”.

After that I joined the guide for "Self-discipline and Social Commitment: People and Stories of Tsinghua University" Special Exhibition (「自強不息 厚德載物 ─ 清華大學的人和事」專題展覽).

Early distinguished scholars were mentioned and I am interested in Ye Qisun (Master Chinese Physicist).

The graduate certificate was demonstrated.

Moreover, the syllabus of Physics is recorded. The year one is mainly for general studies including Chinese, English, History (Both Chinese and Western), Logic, Mathematics & calculus, general physic, chemistry & geography, as well as, biology.

Finally, I found Dr. Qian Xuesen (錢學森) who was admitted to Tsinghua University's Boxer Indemnity Scholarship to study in the United States in 1935. He arrived at Hong Kong on 8 October 1955, and entered China via the Kowloon–Canton Railway later that day. He made significant contributions to the field of aerodynamics and established engineering cybernetics.

It is very meaningful to visit the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Museum.

I Ching Classmate Dinner and Introduction to Extenics (易經同學聚餐和可拓學導論)

I am honor to be invited by Prof. Pang’s (彭泓基教授) to share “Extenics” during I Ching Classmate Dinner in Yue Cuisine in Scout Association of Hong Kong (童軍總會粵品軒) on 25^th May 2023. Before the dinner, we set up the equipment and projector.

In the beginning, Prof. Pang welcome all participants and the classmates introduced themselves. I feel we are talent pool from different disciplines and industries. 

There are two tables and we took a group photo for memory.

After we shared different background and reasons to join I Ching class, I started the talk “Introduction to Extenics”. 

Extenics is a science which studies the possibility of extending things and rules and methods of developing innovation with formalized patterns, and is used to resolve contradictory problems. Thus, innovation is come from solving contradictory problem.

After that I briefed the four steps of Extension Innovation Method.

Finally, I mentioned the principle of Conjugate Analysis (共軛分析原理) and it employed I Ching principles. Four pairs of conjugates show as follows:

i)                   Physical: Nonmaterial Part (虛部) and Material Part (實部)

ii)                 Systematic: Soft Part (軟部) and Hard Part(硬部)

iii)               Latent Part (潛部) and Apparent Part (顯部)

iv)               Negative Part (負部) and Positive Part (正部)

Then Prof. Pang further explained that many principles of Extenics come from I Ching. They have many common points about “Change” and “Yin Yang (陰陽)”, as well as, “Hexagram (六十四卦)”.

After that we all took a group photo with my book “Logic of Innovation” for memory.

Lastly, Prof. Pang performs Kenny G music using digital Saxophone (數碼色士風). The first music is Spring Breeze and the second one is Forever in Love.

HKSQ The 3rd Exco Meeting 2023

Hong Kong Society for Quality (HKSQ) the 3^rd exco meeting was held on 20^th May 2023. We welcome three new exco members joined onsite meeting in TQM office.

Lunch with Dr. Chin in CityU

Dr. YC Chau, Dr. Vincent Fung and I were invited by Dr. KS Chin to have lunch on 19^th May 2023 in CityU. Dr. Chin invited departmental adjunct professors and industrial advisors to discuss the future program development especially on laboratory and industrial practices. 

After the lunch, we visited the venue of information day on 20^th May 2023 that Department of Systems Engineering would be held tomorrow at 11:00am.

It would introduce the programme on Intelligent Manufacturing Engineering.

Installation of President CityU

I am honor to represent CityU EngD Society to participate the installation of President CityU on 18^th May 2023. 

In the beginning, all guests and professors entered the hall.

Then Dr. Chung Shui-ming (Pro-Chancellor, CityU) declared the ceremony open and we all stand up for National Anthem.

And then Mr. Lester Garson Huang (Chairman of the Council, CityU) introduced Prof. Freddy Boey Yin Chiang. Dr. Raymond Leung (Chairman, CityU Eminence Society; Council member, CityU) is also witness the ceremony.

We all welcome new President Prof. Freddy Boey.

After that Dr. Chung Shui-ming presented CityU ordinance to the President.

Mr. Lester Garson Huang presented of the seal of the University to the President and took a photo.

Finally, Prof. Freddy Boey gave address to the Congregation. He pointed out three way of learnings and they are Inspirational Learning, Interactive Learning and Innovative Learning. We will lead CityU for better research and got innovative outcome. 

Dr. Chung Shui-ming declared the ceremony closed. I took a photo when president left.

I also took a photo with Dr. Raymond Leung and Dr Allen Shi Lop-tak that we are members of CityU Eminence Society (CES). Dr. Roy Chung is also here.

I also took a photo with Prof. Shuk Han CHENG. She is the supervisor of Dr. Xueping Chen (CTO, Vitargent). Eric (SEEM) and Xueping (BCH) transferred Prof. CHENG’s IP under CityU into commerce world successfully.

When I serviced in HKSTP, Vitargent (International) Biotechnology Limited (Vitargent) is one of our incubatees in Incu-Bio scheme. I assisted Vitargent to achieve HOKLAS accreditation to perform the specific tests “Determination of the acute toxicity of waste water to zebrafish eggs (Danio rerio) (ISO 15088:2007)” in 2012. The photo was taken after HOKLAS assessment.

I met my student Mr. Liu Dongzhe, Books (President of Hong Kong New Youth Association) again. 

Lastly, all professors and guests took a group photo with the President before left.

Prof. Way KUO New Book Sharing Seminar - The Absence of Soulware in Higher Education

Today is the last day of Prof. Way KUO serviced in CityU for 15 years. Prof. Way KUO New Book Sharing Seminar entitled The Absence of Soulware in Higher Education (郭位校長新書分享會 ─ 高等教育的心盲 : 近五年全球及台灣、香港、中國大陸高等教育發生了哪些巨變？ 各有何優勢及缺失？) that was held on 12^th May 2023 in Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). CityU Eminence Society members took a group photo with Prof. Way KUO for memory.

Before the seminar, I got the signature in the new book by President and took a photo for memory. I remembered I had also got his signature for previous book named “高等教育的心件” in 2016.

Firstly, MC presented souvenir to Prof. Way KUO.

Then President introduced his book content.

After that a video was played and there are many participants in the hall.

全球高等教育有何值得相互借鑑之處？全球化下的大學面臨哪些困境與危機？

In the video, Prof. Way KUO briefed the wisdom three pillars to support Soulware in Higher Education.

Ms. Vanessa Natalie Wong (王蘊妮) gave her speech through video and she had experienced that matching President’s book and recognized the quality is more important than quantity. 

Then Mr. Simon Hui shared his experience in CityU since 1988 and discussed with President about education and how to improve CityU in future. Mr. Simon said Prof. Way KUO turned a new car to racing car.

Finally, all guests took a group photo with Prof. Way KUO with his new book.

Then many young participants queued under the stage and waiting President signing their books. I am lucky to sign in the beginning of the seminar.

Then YC, Vincent and I visited the exhibition for food and beverage in HKCEC.

It is perfect matching that tea after the seminar.
