Dear Mr. Tran Hai Duc,

This sad news caught me by surprise since I had communicated with Dr. Ngo myself four days ago.
On December 23rd, he sent me a summary of his paper for the 24th International Symposium on Quality,
which I am organizing in March 2023 in Croatia. Co-author on the paper is Doan Hoang Hai from Tra Vinh University, Vietnam.
Since I do not have an e-mail contact for the co-author Doan Hoang Hai, please send me a contact so that I can arrange
for the co-author to finish the paper so that we can publish it in the Proceedings book from the symposium
in honor and memory of Dr. Ngo.

On December 24th Dr. Ngo sent me a Christmas and New Year card.

He told me that he had health problems, but I didn't expect them to be so big.

Please express your condolences to the Dr. Ngo family as well as the
Vietnam Quality Association of Ho Chi Minh City (VQAH), on behalf of the
Croatian Quality Managers Society and myself.

Dear Mr Tran Hai Duc,

It is indeed very sad news that Dr. Ngo passed away on December 28th.

We have known each other personally since we first met at the 9th ANQ Congress 2011 in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC). During a new quality education initiative of the IAQ QiETT in the Asia Oceania region, a successful series of IAQ/ANQ symposia took place over several years. These were carried out parallel to the respective ANQ congresses in different cities/countries.

In the respective panel discussions, leading representatives of the national quality organizations were able to exchange and discuss the quality conditions in the education sector in their countries. Dr. Ngo as president of the VQAH, was effectively the ambassador from Vietnam.

Dr Ngo was a great motivator for quality in education. Several universities from Vietnam took part in ANQ competitions and were also awarded quality prizes.

In the meantime, the extraordinary commitment and expertise of Dr. Ngo also internationally recognized through membership in the IAQ.

Please send my sincere condolences to his family and the quality organization VQAH in Vietnam.

Mr. Lawyer Tran Hai Duc,
Vice chairman, VQAH

Dear Mr. Tran Hai Duc,

I am shocked and saddened to learn of the sudden passing of Dr. Ngo Van Nhon, Chairman of your Vietnam Quality Association of Ho Chi Minh City (VQAH). We express our sincere condolences to Mrs. Nhon and his other family members for their sorrow at his departure at such a young age of 66 years old.

Dr. Nhon has been a leader of country-wide quality promotion in Vietnam and a major member of the Board of the Asian Network for Quality (ANQ). We also cannot forget his active membership in the International Academy of Quality. His passing will be a great loss not only to Vietnamese, but also to Asian, and to the international quality movement.

To the best of my knowledge, Vietnam's quality activities were initiated by the leadership of the late Dr. Nguyen Huu Thien, Director of the Directorate for Standards and Quality (STAMEQ - Vietnam), a national standards organization. In the early 1990s, when a four-member quality control study team, led by Dr. Thien, came to Japan by the invitation of the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Kano Laboratory of the Tokyo University of Science served as the host institution at the request of JICA. This led to my invitation to a quality control seminar organized by STAMEC in Hanoi in 1996. Dr. Thien told me that this was the first international quality control seminar in Vietnam,

In November 2002, Dr. Thien attended the ANQ inauguration meeting in Tokyo on behalf of STAMEC. Originally, ANQ was established as an international quality organization of national or regional private non-profit quality bodies, but there was no such private body in Vietnam at that time, so Dr. Thien asked ANQ Board to let STAMEC stay at ANQ as a member until it would be established.

VQAH was replaced STAMEC in 2008, and Dr. Nhon has served as its representative until today. For the past 15 years, Dr. Nhon has been very active and energetic in ANQ. Since VQAH became the member of ANQ, we have no ANQ Congress where we could not see any participants from VQAH. In 2009, I was honored to be able to assist him in his activities by conducting a TQM seminar in Hoh Chih Minh by his request. As Honorary Chairperson of ANQ, I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to him for his many years of outstanding contributions to ANQ.

On a personal level, I have had the pleasure of getting to know him very well as a friend, too, so that I was invited his home to offer my condolences when his father passed away. I came to accept his activities with the image of pioneering with a bulldozer; I heard the word “difficult”, but never heard the word “impossible” from him. We have lost a great friend.

I hope that the young people at VAQH will carry on Dr. Nhon's legacy of strengthening quality activities in Vietnam.

We pray for his soul to rest in peace.

Best regards

Dr. Noriaki Kano
Honorary Chairperson, ANQ
