HKCTC Summer Activity 2017 – Secondary School Student Visit Science Park Laboratories

There were 30 students from four secondary schools visited to Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks (HKSTP) through “HKCTC Summer Activities 2017 for Promotion of Awareness of Testing and Certification in Hong Kong” scheme on 29th Jun 2017. This Activity was arranged by Hong Kong Council for Testing and Certification (HKCTC). HKCTC has been organizing different seminars/talks and visits for students to introduce the concept of and promoting the importance of testing and certification in Hong Kong. They held a series of talk cum visit to laboratories in Government departments and public organizations for secondary students in this summer. In the beginning, my colleague Mr. Alfa Lun briefed the background of HKSTP and demonstrated our corporation video.

After that we separated students into two teams to visit our laboratories. Firstly, I led one team to visit the Probe and Test Centre / 3D System-in-Package (3D SiP) laboratories. I explained how wafer formed from silicon and then how to test the wafer and IC under clean room environment.

We took a group photo for memory in front of the clean room.

Then we visited Biotechnology Support Laboratory (BSC) and my colleague Mr. Anthony Chan explained the advance equipment for the studies.

The powerful DNA sequencing equipment was also introduced.

Finally, I led them to go to IC Failure Analysis Laboratory and briefed the operation of Scanning Electron Microscopy.

Lastly, I briefed the quality concept and the duties of corporate quality unit to the students.

I also shared the career path of Testing and Certification industry and encouraged them to study STEM subjects.

At the end, we took a photo with organizer for memory. We had cooperated for career talk in secondary school under HKQF in 2016.
